Editorial Hello again! Welcome to Issue 8 of SynTax. Though I'm writing this a bit ahead of time, this issue is released on the same date as the Probe Convention. I hope all of you who attended it had a great time; I'm only sorry I wasn't able to get there myself. Thanks to Mike Brailsford for taking some SynTax leaflets with him to give to anyone who was interested. Hands up everyone who spotted the deliberate (?) mistake in the last two issues of SynTax ... on the loading screen...? Yes, two section 5s and no section 4! When I think how often I've seen that loading screen and never noticed. Oh well, every issue has to have at least one mistake in it, I suppose! SynTax has had quite a lot publicity recently, either directly or indirectly. The direct mentions were in one of the latest ACL updates and also in Adventure Coder, the indirect one was in ZERO when Mike recently included my solution to Zork Zero - all ZERO readers now know what I look like ...... Thanks too to all the people who continue to give out SynTax leaflets - Teresa Tyler, Chris Cuming of Cum-Com Software Library and Zenobi. The PD section has grown a lot more this issue. As you know by now, I don't MIND selling the PD disks, but I'd far rather give a disk away - free - when you send in a contribution on disk for a future issue. Several of the disks have been contributed by readers who have solved an RPG and put all the maps on disk. If you've done anything like this, please send me a copy to go in as either PD or Shareware if you prefer. Incidentally, Richard Lee's The Grimoire, which was originally in the Shareware section, has been updated and is now available as PD. Now, some news which will interest some of you. I've been asked by several people to bring out a mono version and Alan and I have been working like crazy on it since the last issue. By the time you get this disk, all the back issues (and this one) should be available in mono too. So if, in future, you'd prefer to receive the mono version, just drop me a line. If you want to change your old colour disks to mono, just send your original disks to me with return postage and I'll send you the new disks. A final note to any authors out there who would like to send their games in for review. The arrangement is that, in exchange, you get a complimentary copy of the issue in which the review appears (which will be the next issue whenever possible) and a free advert too. Well, space is short (as always) so I'll keep this brief. Enjoy the disk and see you in Issue 9.... Sue
