Shadowgate - The Riddles The solution to Shadowgate was given in Issue 1 of SynTax but the answers to the riddles set by the Sphinx weren't given fully or explained. For anyone who wants to know, here is the complete list: I at fires attend, am a kitchen friend. When my nose I blow, how the embers glow. When the wind compels, how my body swells. Answer - bellows. "Operate/bellows/on sphinx" First I was burnt, then I was beaten, Then I was drowned, then I was pierced with nails. Answer - horseshoe. "Operate/horseshoe/on sphinx" It has towns but no houses, It has forests but no trees, It has rivers but no fish. Answer - map. "Operate/map/on sphinx" Long neck but no hands, Made of wood from a forest's nest, A hundred legs and I cannot stand, Against a wall I rest. Answer - broom. Operate/broom/on sphinx" Eyeless though I may be, thro' me once a man did see. My form once thoughts did hold, Now I'm empty, white and cold. Answer - skull. "Operate/skull/on sphinx" If you look at me, I look at you. You look with eye but I've none but your two. I speak with no voice when you ordain, For yours is the voice, my lips open in vain. Answer - mirror. "Operate mirror on sphinx" Out of interest, once the sphinx has asked all the riddles, it vanishes.
