Letters If you write in on an adventure-related matter and your letter isn't marked "Not for Publication", I'll assume it's okay for me to quote from it here. ------------------------------------------------------------------ From Mr H O'Donnell, Nottingham I like to print out details but can't cope with "light type" on screen. Is another method possible? @~Mr O'Donnell sent me a sample printout. To clear up this query, @~though the light text looks different on the screen, it will @~look the same as normal text when printed out. However, on his @~printout, he also pointed ou@+t that if he prints something with @~a price from SynTax, not only does it miss off the "œ" sign, it @~misses off the first digit as well eg the cost of a PD disk is @~shown as ".50" not "œ2.50". My Brother M1009 misses the "œ" but @~prints the numbers ok. If YOU have a similar problem, could you @~send me a sample printout and say which printer you use. Thanks. From Alan Ridealgh, Chelmsford It was good to see that the title screen of Issue 9 was speeded up, it allows one to get on with the goodies in the magazine without being frustrated by the printing time. Also, nice to see that you have included an order form for the PD section. Since you did go to the bother of including it you will find enclosed an order for some PD (I couldn't not order some now, could I.) Whilst reading your editorial and request for contributions, I couldn't let your plea go unanswered, and in response I have included a solution to an adventure on this disk. I have also enclosed separately a map for same. It seems a shame that while I can put a letter and solutions on disk, I have no easy way of putting maps onto disc for the purpose of publication. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a utility available for map making in the public domain, or has anybody out there amongst your readers got their own system they use that they would be willing to share. If there is nothing available, maybe some bright person with programming knowledge ( mine is non-existent ) could come up with something. Well, I seem to have run out of things to say now, so I'll just wish you and all your readers a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. @~Happy New Year to you too, Alan, and I'm glad the PD order form @~came in useful! @~Does anyone know of a PD mapping utility? Or would someone be @~able to write one? In the meantime, maps on paper are fine, they @~don't take too long to type up. And thanks again for your @~contributions. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Mr D A Jones, Solihull (extract) .......A bit of software news; I chose some games from the SynTax disk from Zenobi. I needed to write to see if they were STE-compatible as the advert didn't say. A reply came that to the best of their knowledge the games were compatible and had been reduced to œ3.99 each, so I chose Jade Stone, Two For One @+and Three of the Best ~(plenty to keep you busy there!), +mainly because the solutions were available from SynTax. Anyway they arrived 3 days later with another disk, the STAC demo freebie, which has a game called Shymer on it. The presentation folders the games were packed in are a delight and the disks work OK on the STE so I feel a recommendation for Zenobi is worth a mention. @~Yes, Zenobi always give a very quick service. I understand that @~in future the games won't be packed in the black folders due to @~the large price reduction in the games that John has made. But @~I agree that they are a very nice touch, especially as there's @~room to keep a save disk in there too.
