Eye of the Beholder - Crashes! A joint effort between Ron Rainbird and Andy Stenhouse @~Just as Issue 13 was about to be mailed out, I had a letter from @~Ron in which he brought up the following topic. Eye of the Beholder - really enjoying playing it - got through the 5th Level to the Down stairway, went to use it - crash! Each time I tried to go down the game went blank on me. Got onto US Gold in Birmingham and they admitted that a few people had advised them of this trouble, which could not be explained by SSI in America to whom they referred the problem. As all copies of the game have been distributed, US Gold could not immediately replace my dud disks. They are awaiting a fresh delivery though they can give no date. Have you heard of other Amiga players of Beholder who have met this problem? @~At that time I hadn't, but a few weeks later I had a call from @~Andy and during the course of the conversation, he happened to @~mention that he had completed Eye of the Beholder on the Amiga. @~I asked if he'd had problems with crashing, as Ron had, and he @~said he had, but he gave me his solution to it, repeated here @~from notes I made at the time. First, save very regularly. The game can crash if you try to go up or down stairs. So just before you're going to use the stairs, go to another room and save. Now try to go down. If it crashes, reload and change round the character boxes and possessions. Try again. You may have to do this several times but eventually it WILL work. The games can also crash when you use a portal and also when you meet a creature who looks a lot like Lord Chaos. You get the text at the start of the fight and then it crashes. @~I hope these tips may help any struggling Amiga owners out @~there. I don't know if there are similar problems with the PC @~version....
