Bane of the Cosmic Forge - Hints Sent in by John Carter Some puzzles in this game need multiple objects in order to solve them and they can be scattered far and wide. Don't expect to find keys for locked doors nearby or even on the same level. Save all items, you'll need them eventually although it may be a long time until you find the appropriate place. Password for the Captain's Den: Queeg-queeg has the password but will only tell you if you give him the location of the Captain's treasure. This is found in the Dead Man's Log from the jail on the level below, but can only be read with the aid of the J.R. Decoding Ring, and you won't find that until well into the adventure. Altar of Ramm: After getting into the King's Bedroom on the first floor (with the chrome key), find the gold key and get the Goat Mask and Dagger of Ramm. (The Key of Ramm is needed from the ground floor). The gold key will open the second door along in the sub-basement passage. Sort out the buttons and pits puzzle to get the Book of Ramm. Reading this gives you the button sequence to move the Altar and reveal a pit which you must jump in order to progress. The Hazard Area: A dungeon key from this area will enable you to find the J.R. Decoding Ring. Also a pick, which is used to open up two blocked passages and obtain a Bell Key. Belfry: Climb to the top and swing across the gap using the bell rope. (This may take several attempts). Open the door with the Bell Key and get the spare rope. Cage in the Captain's Den: You will need the key from L'Monte at the top of the SE Tower. He'll swap it for the Stuffed Beagle. (To get into his room say "Snoop-cheri"). Don't worry, it'll make sense to anyone who's played the game! Chasm: To cross the chasm in the Hazard Area, use the hook from the cage in the Captain's Den "merged" with the spare bell rope. The Mountains, Mines and Sub-levels: They are all interconnected and very difficult to map. Some areas are pitch dark and must be mapped blind! There seems no way to illuminate them. The Catapult: Found at the far side of the mountain. You will need to take the broken sprocket to Smitty the dwarf in the level below the mine. He will repair it for 1000 gold pieces. Then you must kill four rubber beasts (also in the mines) to obtain four rubber strands. Merge the strands in pairs to make two rubber braids, then merge the braids to make a rubber band. Easy, eh? Now climb as high as you can up the mountain and collect some large boulders. Return to the catapult, use the sprocket and the rubber band and keep firing boulders until you hit the target and the bridge is activated. You now have access to another part of the mountain. Unfortunately it's guarded by two magic-using giants who persistently kill off my party so I don't know what's up there. The Drawbridge: This is also situated in the mountains and you must use the mystery oil from Queeg-queeg's (you did buy it, didn't you?) to open the control box. I have not as yet worked out the sequence of operations which activate it. If you'd read the operating instructions you wouldn't be surprised.
