Top Ten Adventures Issue 18 features Steve Cook's Top Ten which covers both ST and Amiga games. 1. Eye of the Beholder: First came Dungeon Master with a glimpse of the potential of this genre. A blessing for solo Dungeons and Dragons players who could at last re-create their over-the-table endeavours. Eye of the Beholder was the realization of that potential. With the implementaion of the official D&D rules, enhanced sound and a manageable task. A wonderful, atmospheric game which will take some living up to when the sequel is released soon. 2. Demon's Winter: Notice a slight RPG bent here. Not only a good easily accesible game but a great excuse to dust down your printer and get the latest printout of your characters' stats. This was the sole use of my printer back in my ST days. (What a sad individual, what a waste.) 3. Dungeon Master: For all the reasons stated for EOTB. 4. Bard's Tale 1: Another good but very tricky game. Progression is quite hard early on but by the time you've a couple of Arch-Mages, revenge is oh so sweet. One tip when you buy this game - admit defeat and send off for the hint book immediately, it will save a lot of hair. 5. Wishbringer: Admittedly not that hard but I did finish it and the packaging was up to the usual Infocom high standards. 6. Bard's Tale 2: Carrying on nicely from BT1, if anything even trickier than the last. But other comments stand. 7. Ultima IV: Another highly thought of game. It had an unusual character generation method and a nice spell system. The game is also huge which can be a blessing but it can also be a bind at times. 8. Drakkhen: Lovely graphics, nice control system, easy to get into but had a lot of 'hook'. Many a late night session fighting a nice variety of monsters, sadly without much success. 9. Beyond Zork: Nice to see Infocom adding touches like on-screen mapping and a bit of an RPG feel to this game. 10. Monkey Island: A bit of a cheat this, but if Football Director II can get a mention then so can this. Great humorous romp with some great characters and an unusual combat system. @~If you haven't yet sent in your Top Ten, why not send it now? @~The scoring is 10 pts for 1st place down to 1 pt for 10th place. 91 pts Dungeon Master 39 pts Chaos Strikes Back 38 pts Lurking Horror 28 pts Enchanter, Leather Goddesses 26 pts Trinity 24 pts Wishbringer 21 pts Beyond Zork, Demon's Winter 17 pts Sorcerer, Planetfall 16 pts Ultima IV 15 pts Bard's Tale 1, Stationfall, Xenomorph 14 pts Guild of Thieves 12 pts Drakkhen, Time and Magik 11 pts Phantasie III, Spellbreaker, Zork II, Manhunter San Francisco 10 pts Eye of the Beholder 9 pts Fish, Jinxter 8 pts Pirates, Zak McKracken, Bard's Tale 3 7 pts Ultima V, Sorcerer, Loom, Ingrid's Back 6 pts Infidel, Phantasie I, Captive, Corruption 5 pts Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Manhunter New York, Jacaranda Jim, Dragonflight, Sleeping Gods Lie, Hammer of Grimmold, Bard's Tale 2 4 pts Rigel's Revenge 3 pts Mortville Manor, Cortizone, Ballyhoo, Deja Vu, Jade Stone, Witness, Wizard's Crown 2 pts Phantasie II, Infestation, Legend of the Sword, Camelot 1 pt Plundered Hearts, Future Wars, Wizard's Tower, Secret of Monkey Island 1, Football Director II, Jade Stone 1/2 pt Zork I, Zork III
