Secret of Monkey Island 2 - PC crashes

Having just finished Monkey Island 2, I've got to say that it's a
great game. But I was surprised to find that I crashed it in three
different places. The Grue also crashed it once (in another place)
but Neil Shipman didn't have any problems at all. It's hard to
work out why the crashes occurred since I couldn't always repeat
them. It may be some peculiarity caused during installation but I
think it's more likely to be a case of catching the program
unawares by doing things in an order it wasn't expecting.

Whatever ... I'll list the places it happened to me and what I did
to rectify it and leave it with you in case you hit similar
problems.  In each case an error message was put up on the screen
which I'll mention if I made a note of it.

Part 1:

The swamp - trying to 'use bucket with swamp' to get a bucket of
mud. Stand in a different place to stop it crashing.

Part 2:

Trying to enter the jail after Kate has been arrested. This gives
a message 'room 29 not in room 29 at 2277336 + 0'. Remove Kate's
picture from your poster before entering. This is a strange one as
neither the Grue or Neil removed the picture in order to enter the
jail, but it was the only way I could do it. Computers, eh?

Part 4:

Trying to 'use hankie with LeChuck' in the First Aid room gave
'costume 126 not in room 93 at 7697237 + 104891'. I used another
room for this action and was then okay.

If anyone else has other crashes and their solutions, for any
machine, please let me know.
