Border Warfare - The Story so far... Sent in by John R Barnsley @~Following the successful completion of Golden Wombat of Destiny @~after readers pooled their knowledge, here's another game that @~we've, so far, been unable to complete. Has anyone any more @~ideas? START: In the Resistance Hut, carrying a match. EXAMINE TABLE - (you see a newspaper and an unlit candle; forget the candle) - EXAMINE PAPER - (note the ONLY heading which doesn't have a page number: 'OXYGENE') - GET PAPER - STRIKE MATCH ON TABLE - (you now have limited moves before the match goes out) - W - N - EXAMINE BUNDLE - (you find and take a tin) - EXAMINE TIN - (contains a blue powder) - EXAMINE POWDER - ('glittery' blue) - S - EXAMINE PUDDLE - (you find and take a hunting horn) - EXAMINE HORN - (made from the skeleton of the mythical Madeup bird!) - E - S - S - E - (there is an old well to the North from here, but you can ignore it) - E - ENTER HOUSE - SEARCH ROOM - (do NOT try to go upstairs!) - LIFT CARPET - (you find a bag) - GET BAG - EXAMINE BAG - (contains 300 pelok coins - the universal currency) - LEAVE HOUSE - W - W - S - (ignore the chickens, tractor and harvester here) - TALK TO FARMER - (he tells you about the sword and the planet of Sunhillow) - E - EXAMINE HAY - (the bales are piled to the roof) - CLIMB HAY - (you see a spade hanging from the roof on a hook, but the hay is unsafe and you climb back down) - W - ASK FARMER ABOUT SPADE - (you are welcome to it) - ASK FARMER ABOUT HAY - (he now helps you to get the spade, and locks up the barn). W - W - UP - (there is an old wizard here) - TALK TO WIZARD - (you must say where you got the bag of money from) - SAY UNDER CARPET - (he disappears and leaves a key behind) - GET KEY - EXAMINE KEY - (shiny gold) - S - (to a marble door) - EXAMINE DOOR - UNLOCK DOOR WITH KEY - (the key now disappears) - S - EXAMINE CASE - BLOW HORN - (the glass case shatters revealing a large sword and the horn disappears) - GET SWORD - EXAMINE SWORD - (a deadly crystal sword) - S - (ignore the patrol here) - S - TALK TO GUARD - (you need a pass) - BRIBE GUARD - (you give him 10 peloks and kill him in the process) - (you are now in the town and must hide your incriminating sword as the soldiers will capture you) - E - ENTER SHOP - DROP SWORD - EXIT - W - W - (some soldiers are here) - TALK TO SOLDIERS - (as you are not carrying the sword, you are not captured) - E - E - ENTER SHOP - GET SWORD - EXAMINE COUNTER - (you see a dead fish but you cannot take or buy it) - STEAL FISH - BUY FOOD - (the man makes you up a parcel of food and drink for 25 peloks) - EXIT - (he now locks up the shop behind you). W - W - S - S - S - W - EXAMINE TREE - (you see something on the branch above you; if you climb the tree then you won't see anything!) - EXAMINE BRANCH - (you find and take a rope) - EXAMINE ROPE - (long, thin and white) - E - S - (there is a man watching you here) - N - (the man follows you here, away from the guard) - TALK TO MAN - (he asks if you want to buy a pass slip) - SAY YES - (it costs you 201 peloks) - S - TALK TO GUARD - (he asks for some food) - GIVE FISH TO GUARD - (his favourite food!) - TALK TO GUARD - (he'll do you a favour if you come across anything dodgy) - EXAMINE PASS - (it's a forgery!) - GIVE PASS TO GUARD - (he's pleased you've found this and now asks for a good sci-fi book). S - ENTER HOUSE - (the door locks behind you) - E - (for some reason you can stand on the chair here?) - EXAMINE BED - (there is a sleeping woman here who cannot be woken up by normal means) - SHOUT - (she wakes up now and runs out) - EXAMINE BED - EXAMINE PILLOW - (you see a little sleeping mouse; be gentle or you'll scare it off!) - GENTLY GET MOUSE - EXAMINE MOUSE - (a little white mouse) - W - UP - UP - EXAMINE ARMOUR - (you find a torch) - GET TORCH - EXAMINE TORCH - (hairy black cloth wrapped around it which will ignite when the proper substance comes into contact with it) - SPRINKLE POWDER ON TORCH - (it is now lit) - E - UP - (you must be carrying the lit torch here) - EXAMINE ATTIC - EXAMINE CHEST - EXAMINE BOX - GET KEY - (you cannot take or open either the chest or box!) - EXAMINE KEY - (silver) - DOWN - W - DOWN - DOWN - W - N - W - (to the Library) - EXAMINE LIBRARY - (you notice a small bookcase) - EXAMINE BOOKCASE - UNLOCK BOOKCASE WITH KEY - (the key now disappears and you see three books inside) - EXAMINE BOOKS - ("The Sentinel", "The Yek To The Universe" and "Phaedra"......'Yek' could be 'key'?) - GET YEK - (the bookcase is now re-locked) - READ YEK - (a space novel) - E - S - E - UNLOCK DOOR - (the book is a magical key!!) - EXIT HOUSE. N - GIVE BOOK TO GUARD - (he now gives you a GENUINE pass slip) - S - S - E - SE - EXAMINE BUSHES - (you find a floppy disc) - GET DISC - NW - W - (don't go South from here!) - W - (you notice something protruding from the damp soil) - EXAMINE METAL - GET METAL - (it's attached to something buried under the soil) - DIG SOIL WITH SPADE - (you are now inside a buried spaceship and discard the spade) - EXAMINE SPACESHIP - EXAMINE DOOR - EXAMINE SLOT - (the upsidedown and backwards message reads: "Insert disc here please") - INSERT DISC - (you are now asked for the access code.....remember the newspaper) - TYPE OXYGENE - (you can now enter) - ENTER - N - (you see three coloured buttons on the door here) - PRESS RED BUTTON - PRESS GREEN BUTTON - PRESS BLUE BUTTON - (the door now slides open) - ENTER - EXAMINE CONTROLS - EXAMINE DIAL - (must be 'set') - PRESS BUTTON - PULL LEVER - SET DIAL - (you now take off and eventually land on Sunhillow). ON SUNHILLOW EXAMINE DUNE - (you find and take a metal spike) - S - S - E - SW - ENTER HOUSE - EXAMINE TABLE - (you see a scroll) - GET SCROLL - READ SCROLL - (strange writing which you are unable to understand) - LEAVE HOUSE - NE - W - N - W - S - UP - (you will need climbing equipment from here) - USE SPIKE - (you pull yourself upwards) - NE - (there is a hole in the rocks above you) - EXAMINE HOLE - (you find some trousers - you'll need these as your jeans are a mess from the fright you had on your space journey; the man and woman in the next village will not talk to you because of the smell!!) - WEAR TROUSERS - (you discard the jeans) - E - UP - EXAMINE CAVE - (you find and take a card) - EXAMINE CARD - (small plastic) - SW - S - E - TALK TO WOMAN - (she is hungry) - GIVE PARCEL TO WOMAN - (she gives you a mask) - EXAMINE MASK - (a devil mask) - W - W - TALK TO MAN - (he tells you that the village was attacked by the Gallyon tribe and their people have been taken away) - SAY I WILL HELP - (he tells you that the Gallyons can be found to the west, beyond the Castle of Sand) - (you can now go west from here) - W - N - (to the Gallyon hoverbike) - CLIMB ON BIKE - EXAMINE BIKE - (you see a slot) - EXAMINE SLOT - (you must insert a card to power up the bike) - INSERT CARD - (you now travel to outside the Castle of Sand). S - (there are a group of Wizards here, taking part in an ancient ritual; you can give them the scroll now, but as they only read it as their poll tax demand, I suppose that maybe this is not the time?) - WEAR MASK - EXAMINE WIZARDS - N - SW - E - (you see six vicious-looking villagers standing in front of a large cage, shouting at the people inside and poking things through the bars at them) - TALK TO VILLAGERS - (they bow down before you and tell you that these are the kidnapped villagers who are to be tortured when the rest of the Gallyons return from a hunting trip) - HIT VILLAGERS WITH SWORD - (you kill all six of them) - OPEN CAGE - (you release the kidnapped people and they run off after thanking you) - W - S - TALK TO WOMEN - (they bow down before you and you can now see an exit to the East) - E - EXAMINE ELDERS - TALK TO ELDERS - (you learn that the devil mask you are wearing once belonged to Lord Gallyon and is part of the tribe's outfit....Lord Gallyon murdered the High Priest of Sunhillow long ago and then built up his tribe by capturing the sons of the powerful Mountain Wizards....the tribe were then given a strength-giving potion by the Wizards in return for the release of their sons....to stop the Gallyons, that same potion must be taken from their stronghold to the Southeast of the mountain range....however, it is rumoured that there are two potions in the fort....if that is true, then one of these potions must be drunk, and the other one removed from the fort). W - N - NE - SE - SE - S - (to outside the fort) - SW - E - (to the arena where you see a warrior bending down) - ?????????????? @~John says: +I presume this warrior holds the answer to opening the doors inside? There is no way of killing/hitting/attacking this warrior. The program doesn't seem to accept the fact that I am carrying the crystal sword as, when I ATTACK/HIT/KILL WARRIOR WITH SWORD the response is that I have simply attacked with no mention of using the sword! The warrior then cuts me in half, as you would expect! Further, if I input FIGHT WARRIOR WITH SWORD, he cuts me in half but I can still attack as the program doesn't end? HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP! HELP!
