The Tomb of the Ancient Pharaohs - Anne T Brenner/AGT (Text adventure for PC, ST and Amiga) Reviewed by "Kedenan" on an Amstrad PC1512 While on a trip to Egypt you have decided to join a conducted tour party on a visit to the Tombs of the Ancient Pharaohs. Your curiosity has taken you away from the main party and you suddenly find yourself alone and somewhat lost. There is no one here to ask for directions except a lizard or two, so you'll have to find your own way back to the city the best way you can. You wander on through the desert when you find a trail winding up hill. Maybe it will lead you to the camp of some desert people and you can borrow a camel for the ride back to the city. This is a steep hill and the flies are a nuisance, good job you brought a fly swatter along with you. It is very hot and the hill is steep. You stop to catch your breath and notice something shining in the sand just off the track. You step off the track and pick it up; it looks like a Scarab Ring and certainly seems very old. It must have belonged to one of the Ancient Pharaohs. You rub the ring to remove all the dust and accumulated crud, when suddenly the ground shakes and trembles!!! Oh no, what have you gone and done now?! The ground begins to give way under your feet and you scramble for the track, dropping the ring in your haste! A huge hole opens up next to the track and you feel yourself falling! Desperately you try to grab the branches of a small bush near to you and pull it out by the roots as you fall into the darkness of the cavern deep below and are knocked unconscious when you fall. When you awaken you realise that you must have been knocked out for quite a while. The light coming from the opening high above you is beginning to dim, evening is approaching. You are suffering from a very bad headache, probably caused by your fall. When you look around you see in the dimming light that you are at the end of a dark hallway. It is too high to climb out the way you fell in and the walls are too smooth to climb. There are a lot of bones scattered about on the ground, and upon a close examination they appear to have all been broken in two. It looks as though there are bones of about forty to fifty people here. Grinning skulls are hovering in the air behind you about five feet off the ground. They appear harmless, they have only a few rotted teeth and they are grinning at you. There are twelve of them and four are clacking their teeth together as if they are talking to one another. You can only move along the hallway where you will first find a green key and then when you move to the other end of the hallway there is only one exit, into a foyer where you will find an old brass lamp. If you light the lamp, you will then be able to see in the dark passages ahead. The light will attract some horrible flying insects called gallinippers, it's a good job you hung on to your fly swatter which you can use from time to time to kill them as they appear on the scene. You will also find a sword which you can use to deal with the spider when you come across it. You will meet ghosts, hopping bilidads and lady-bugs and find amongst other things a jewelled box containing a sand dollar and a gold box containing a gold key, before you arrive at the Pharaoh's Tomb. At all times watch out for the "Nobbler" who appears at random and steals some of your possessions. The tomb is highly decorative with a golden shrine in the centre, a sarcophagus containing the mummified remains of the Pharaoh and several jars of different colours containing his brains and various organs. Now you have found the tomb, ALL you have to do is find your way out, avoiding many hazards, before you can get back to the city and the rest of your party. I wish you well........... This is an imaginative adventure available from "Syntax PD" for PC on 3.5" and 5.25" disks (PD 351), ST (PD 350) and Amiga (PD 421) for only œ2.50 post paid.
