Secret of Monkey Island : a Guide, Part 7 As played on an Amiga 500 (1 meg) by Ron Rainbird ... Return to the cleft and tie one of the ropes to a branch at the edge. This will get you halfway down, where there is a tree stump, to which you can tie the other rope and descend to the bottom. Here you will find a pair of oars, which you must take and climb back up. Now you can go to the rowboat on the beach, where you should also find some bananas knocked off the tree by the rocks fired previously from the ancient catapult. Get them. Now push the boat into the water and start rowing eastwards. Follow the coastline until you reach a village. Land and investigate. You will find some fruit. Take the bananas, then try to leave. Hostile natives will descend upon you and you finish up in a prison hut. Search the hut and you will find a loose floorboard under a skull. Lift the floorboard and guess what? A tunnel leading back to the beach. Really thick these jailers! Still, maybe you are not too bright because you will returning to the village later in the game. Back on the beach, get into the boat and row back to where you originally found it. By the way, since you landed on the island you will probably have noticed the brief appearances of a monkey. Now is a good time to feed it with the bananas. He (or she) is delighted and now follows you everywhere. Staying on foot, walk East to a Peninsula and search the clearing there. Several interesting and unsettling things can be seen, including a huge head of a monkey with idols standing around it. The whole is guarded by an apparently insurmountable fence, but you discover that by pulling the nose of a nearby Totem Pole the fence is lifted, but only when you are pulling the nose! So get the monkey to pull the nose while you enter the compound. Once inside the fence, collect the smallest idol and depart, leaving the monkey swinging happily on the totem pole. The idol will make a very good trading item for your return visit to the village - which should be your very next journey. @~To be continued.
