Abandoned Places (Electronic Zoo) - Part 11 Bronakh's Lair (Sections 6 to 8) Solution by Brian Burke @~Continued from Issue 22 Sixth Section: There now follows a series of small levels which can be mapped within a 40 x 37 grid BUT, save for one, I'll describe each floor separately. Floor One The opening section is very small. You have to drop down the pit. There's a message beyond the pit telling you to do just that. Floor Six Anyway I think it's five floors you drop. Before venturing forth take a look ahead at the Fireball room. Step forward one step only to get a message 'USE YOUR ELEMENTAL MAGIC OR BE TOASTIFIED'. In other words cast the Create Wall spell and work your way across the room diagonally to the far right hand side. Once there cast Levitate or fall down the pit and be teleported back to Floor One or the start of this Floor. Ignore the message 'TREASURE ROOM' as, if you enter, you are teleported back to Floor One. A Topaz key opens the door if your curiosity knows no bounds. Straight on then to enter a false wall at the far left hand corner. Go through to press a button in the wall that opens up a doorway behind the party. Retrace steps to the door. There's a message 'HIDDEN DOOR, HIDDEN SWITCH' in front of the door. There are two BB through the door. Enter the room of columns and go left to find stairs to the next Floor. Floor Five A message in the centre of room declares 'ROOM OF THE NASTY SWITCHES'. This refers to the room beyond the door. The pattern is that you go straight on to the left hand corner and then right to access the now open passage in the far right hand corner. Once through go left in the room beyond. Through the door to enter a teleport in the alcove to go to the next Floor. Floor Four Avoid the square in the centre of this room as it's a 90 degree Spinner. Go straight on to enter another room through a false wall. Go to the left of the column ahead and stop in front of the door. There is a message here that says 'SET YOUR TELEPORT HERE'. Do as suggested or you'll be stuck once you go through the door. As you go up the passage, doors close behind the party. At the top on the right go through the door and fight two baddies. Press the button in the wall ahead to open up the exit to this floor back in the room to the left of the column. Activate the teleport and away you go, up the stairs on the right at the end of the passage. Do not enter the small alcove beyond the message 'YOUR TELEPORT OR MINE?' as this takes you back to Floor One. Floor Three You are greeted with a message 'THE GREEDY SHALL PERISH'. This refers to Fireball traps ahead in the centre of the Fire squares and to the far right hand corner of the room. If you're quick you can grab a Battle Mace from the centre of the Fire squares. To the far left of the room is a passage to the right in which a BB is lurking. Sometimes he enters the room if you delay entry to the passage. I'd suggest you save the game as this next bit is toughish. There's a pressure plate at the start of the passage - purpose unknown unless it's to activate the various nasties up ahead. Another message just into the passage says 'THE WAY OF THE SNAKE'. This is because there are lots of bends ahead. The first two baddies are easy. The next two are BBs. Then two easy followed by one BB and an easy one. Then up the stairs to the next Floor. Floor Two This area can be mapped on a 28 x 11 grid. The entry stairs are at 28/11. Ahead of the party and in 7 alcoves in total along each wall are cupboards containing a variety of goodies. Just before the entrance to the room beyond is a message 'SOMETHING YOU CAN'T SEE CAN STILL EXIST AND BITE'. Cast a Detect Invisibility spell and fight the offending baddie. Into the room with the column and to the right is a small passage containing three pits. There's a message at the entrance 'THE SECOND ONE IS ANTI-MAGIC' referring to the centre Pit. In order to access the key in the recess to right beyond, cast Levitate, move over the first Pit, use Leap and quickly press the left movement button to grab the Opal key. Return the same way. Should you be unfortunate enough to fall down any of the Pits you end up at Floor One - you can get back to this point OK. Now go to the door to the left of the Column and open with the Mithral key. Facing the door at the end of this passage move right, forward two then left through false walls to access the room with four columns beyond. If you have the Pass Gate spell then the three rooms on the left can be entered but they contain nothing but a baddie in each. At the end of the room is a passage to the right. Four steps in at 11/1 is a 180 degree spinner and yet another one at 13/1 so drop an item to keep your bearings. You enter a small room with a passage and door to the left. Before entering go through a false wall at 16/4 and fight two BBs. To the left in an alcove is a Chest containing Food, Money, Treasure and a Berserker Sword. Return to the door at 21/4 and open with the Opal key. In this room with two Columns is a message to the left 'CAN YOU FIND THE HIDDEN ROOM BEHIND THIS WALL'. Of course we can. Go to the right into the alcove at 25/6 and teleport to a small room. Heaven knows what floor we're on now but press the button in the wall in the far corner to be teleported to another, slightly larger, room. The exit stairs are in the far right hand corner. Seventh Section: Map on a 22 x 18 grid. The entrance stairway is at 22/18 Moving forward you receive a message 'WELCOME TO THE HALL OF SURPRISES'. There's a Fireball Trap in the top right corner at 21/9. To the left is another message 'THIS WALL IS ILLUSIONARY'. So it is but the false wall conceals a Pit. Walking forward in the pit you are Teleported back into the room at 19/15 which is only one square from the Pit. A corridor at 14/16 leads to a Fireball Trap at 19/17. If you're quick you can get off and run away from it. A message at 14/14 asks 'CAN YOU SWIM'. To the left at the end of this passage is a Swimming Potion and to the right a Ring of Mighty Attack. There are three pressure plates that open/close the door at 13/10. Once through the door there's a message at the bend 'IF YOU AREN'T A MINOTAUR THEN YOU'LL BE AMAZED' Beyond this fight a baddie. She may not be there but if you wait or move to the crossroads then you'll meet! There are two such baddies here. Drop an object for reference as the crossroads here at 10/8 spin you 90 degrees left. So go left and keep straight on to enter a false wall at 8/15. In this room are two plants that you need to manipulate, but one at a time. Pull the one in the right hand corner and leave the room. The other plant can only be pulled from the corridor opposite and then you'll come back here to collect a key exposed by pulling the plant in the corner. Out of the room go left at 7/12 to find another crossroads at 6/10. This time the Spinner is 180 degrees. Drop another object for guidance. Go left, 10/5, down to the end of the passage. Round the bend and left again at 2/15 and 2/17. Pull the plant but before returning to the false wall entrance head up the passage at 4/15 and go left. Round the corners to pull the Plant. Regain the passage and head straight up to find a Large Shield. Back now to the false wall room. Walk round the centre column to take a Silver Key. Head back then to the first crossroads at 10/8 and go right and keep right to find a button in the wall at 14/7. There's a message 'PULL IT'. Do so to open/close a wall at 5/3. Exit and still keeping right find another button and message at 16/6. This opens/closes a wall at 6/3. From 16/6 go past the passage on the right at 14/3 and the one to the left at 12/5 to go right then left to another crossroads at 8/3. This is another 180 degree spinner. Head straight across to the now open passage passing over a message at 7/3 'SEEK THE SWITCH'. Round the bends to find the stairs to the next section. Eighth Section: Map on a 28 x 12 grid. The entrance stairway is at 1/6 with the first column at 3/3. To your right are two baddies. Keep right past the columns to go to the far end of the room to a message at 15/3 'GO ON'. Cast Detect Illusion to find a door in the wall at 16/3. Open this with the Silver key and enter a room with water. Two baddies lurk within so dispatch them and then kill the one in the middle of the water at 21/4 to grab a Bloodstone Ring. Go right to the bottom left of the room to receive a message at 18/7 'SWITCH ONE'. Enter the false wall beyond at 18/8 to activate the wall switch. Go to the other side of the room to a message at 24/7 'SWITCH TWO' and repeat the process at 24/9. Now go up the room keeping right to enter a passage at 26/3. The pressure plate here opens the wall ahead at 28/3 and the next pressure plate the wall to the left beyond that at 28/2. Round the corner press the button at 27/1. This opens up access to a door at 21/9. Back down the room to go through the door and fight a baddie. In an alcove to the left in this room is a Healing Potion. Leave the room via the stairs to the right at 19/12.... @~Almost there - the final section is in the next file.
