DDST - William Miller (RPG for ST/STe on SynTax PD 37) Reviewed by James Judge on an STe Here we go again - saving another world that is in dire peril and is just about to be overrun by an evil bloke and his minions. Yes, well, you get the idea, don't you? This game (DDST that is) is basically set on that tried and tested scenario. You have been summoned to this land by an ancient prophecy and must rid it of the Evil Black Lord, Asmodeus. After selecting your character (or designing your own) you are presented with a map of the countryside. You are represented by a triangle and start off near some woods armed with only a pen knife and wearing some rags. From here you can make your way across the countryside fighting monsters ranging from rats to twelve headed Hydra, visiting towns and entering dungeons. To begin with it is advisable to visit a town where you can - a) Get a job and earn some money. b) Buy some food and replenish your energy. c) Buy some armour and weapons from the local blacksmith. d) Buy some kit - which is totally useless because from the menu of 14 items you can buy you only need one - a waterskin. e) Get a scroll. f) Visit the oracle and ask him to translate a scroll. Before you can do anything you need some money so get yourself a job. You can stay in this job for as long as you like and earn as much money as you like, because there is no time limit in this game. Once you've done that go and buy yourself the best armour, weapon, a shield and a waterskin. Then go and get a scroll. Different scrolls have to be translated at different towns. So if you get a scroll at town 1 you might have to go to town 7 to get it translated. The scrolls are not of vital importance but they do add more depth to the shaky storyline. Once you've done all this it's time to go monster bashing. Traverse the lands entering dungeons and getting important artefacts. The control system is simple. You use the cursor keys for left, right, up, and down. To fight you have two options 1) hit, 2) run which is totally boring. There is no magic in this game except for healing potions. The graphics are a nightmare; you are a triangle, chests are green stars, no monsters are represented and the dungeon map is black and white! There is no sound and all in all the game is a disaster. Another problem is that it relies too much on luck. It is pure chance whether you hit the nasty bandit or not. Buy this game if you want to waste a couple of quid but I would advise you to get something decent - like a haircut! Graphics 1/10 Sound 0/10 Gameplay 3/10
