Supernova - author Scott Miller (Text adventure for the PC on PD disk 274 Reviewed by John Betteridge The game opens with yourself as a thirsty miner stranded on a mining planet in some far distant galaxy. Luckily you are in a tavern with enough money to buy one drink. Having quenched your thirst you then have to eavesdrop on an alien's conversation in order to discover the whereabouts of a fabulous crystal. It took some time for me to figure out how to listen to the alien's conversation, which is necessary if you are to proceed. From then on the game becomes fairly predictable. I found the tasks of having to eat, sleep and drink at regular intervals a little boring after a while and wished for something a bit more puzzling. The sound effects are very clever and can be a little startling if you are not expecting them. The plot is good but with only three characters to interact with. There are some spelling mistakes and in one or two places the wrong directions are given. I finished the game with 910 points out of 1000. To get more points you have to examine and read several objects throughout the game which are not absolutely necessary in order to proceed. At one point in the game, I restored without having "died" first and then was told that it didn't recognise objects which had previously been examined. There are instructions on the disk on how to create a game disk in order to run it from a floppy drive, however I had no problems in copying to and running from the hard disk but I could only save to drive A. To sum up - a good game for the money. I would rate it as ok for the novice adventurer.
