* * * UTOPIA TIPS * * * Sent in by the Bitmap Kid 1) Make sure you look at the advisors' panels on the second of each game month, sometimes they are not updated until then. The Psychiatrist (F1) and the Admin man (F2) are most useful for determining your priorities for the coming month. 2) Keep a good load of Flux pods throughout your colony so you can build freely. In particular, build them around the edges of your colony so you can build outwards quickly. 3) Put Income Tax straight up to 20% at the start of the game and lower it a few percent at a time while you build up your money. When you're rich, reduce your tax to 0% to make your people really happy! 4) To get a large radar coverage, construct flux pods in all directions, building each pod about 10 spaces out from the last. Then build a radar next to each flux pod, your radar should now cover most of the map! 5) Build tank construction yards around the perimeter of your colony, so your tanks are ready for battle whichever direction the enemy chooses to attack from. 6) Invest in scientific research early by building labs and recruiting scientists. Make sure you maintain adequate research grants. Obtaining inventions does take time so don't waste it. 7) When the space around the tank yard is full of tanks, move some of the tanks to more vulnerable parts of the colony. 8) If possible, avoid building power stations because they severely affect the quality of life rating by producing hazardous waste. Instead, build loads and loads of solar panels. You have to build lots of flux pods too, to store power during solar eclipses. Another advantage in doing this is that if a solar panel is destroyed by an enemy, you only lose 2MW of power, rather than 50MW if your power station is hit. 9) If you're short of money, build lots of workshops and stores, and regularly sell Tech Goods you produce. The same can be done with chemical plants and fuel tanks. 10) Maintain roads at least two spaces wide throughout your colony so tanks can move about without restriction. 11) At the start of the game build a hospital and increase the birth rate to high so that your population increases quickly. Once you are happy with the population size, reduce the birth rate to medium or else you will be forever building new living quarters etc. 12) When putting money into research grants, it's best to increase the Military and Civilian grants by the same amounts. 13) Use markers to show the position of ore on the map screen, it will then be easy to see where to build a mine on the 3D screen. 14) Once you are at war with an enemy, build one or more command centres. If your only command centre is destroyed in battle, you are severely hampered because hardly anything works! 15) If you have a power shortage while under attack, build missile launchers instead of laser turrets, which use up a lot of power. 16) With a higher population, several hospitals have a greater affect on the quality of life than just one. 17) When sending tanks and spaceships to attack an enemy city, send larger groups rather than one or two at a time. Ideally, amass tanks and ships at the edge of the screen and send them all off together. 18) Once you have the land mine invention, drop mines right in front of enemy vehicles as they approach. 19) Learn the directions the enemy attacks from and put extra defences in those directions. 20) Where terrain permits seal off valleys with a row of laser turrets or land mines so the enemy vehicles can't pass.
