HYSULA - SynTax P.D. Disk No. 462 THE FULL SOLUTION FOR AN ATARI ST BY JAMES JILLIANS The Plot: You get no instructions with this game so it is unclear as to what you have to do. I only discovered what my mission was after I had completed it! For those of you who don't like adventuring without a purpose I have included this little story to tell you what happened before the game started. It is a product of part deduction and part guess work but it should give you a good idea of what is happening when you play the game. You take on the part of an intrepid explorer of time and space. Unfortunately, during an expedition into the 45th dimension you lose control of your time-mobile and are sent flying off down a nearby warp-lane. You manage to force a crash landing on a strange, unknown planet and you assess the damage. You soon discover that the cause of the problem is your time data disk - a magnetic field from a nearby black hole has completely erased all the information on it! The disk is vital for controlling your ship, without it you can't access the hyperwave projection computers. The only solution to your problem is to find another one on the strange planet's surface. Easier said than done, you think? Vice versa with the Jillians' solution! How to control your character: At first it is quite difficult to work out how to move your character around Hysula's 3D landscape. The control box has no arrows on it and no clue is given elsewhere on the disk telling you how to control your character. Here is the Jillians' guide to bodily control: Click on these parts of the control box with the left or right mouse buttons to do the following things: (Equivalent keyboard controls in brackets). CENTRAL RECTANGLE : LEFT BUTTON - Move Forward ('Up' Cursor) RIGHT BUTTON - Move Back ('Down' Cursor) TOP RECTANGLE - Move View Up (Numeric Keypad No. '8') BOTTOM RECTANGLE - Move View Down (Numeric Keypad No. '2') LEFT RECTANGLE : LEFT BUTTON - Turn Left (Insert) RIGHT BUTTON - Step Left ('Left' Cursor) RIGHT RECTANGLE : LEFT BUTTON - Turn Right (Clr Home) RIGHT BUTTON - Step Right ('Right' Cursor) LEFT MOUSE BUTTON ON SCREEN : Look at thing pointed at. RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON ON SCREEN : Take object / operate object. The Solution: NOTE - You are advised to save the game every so often in case something happens which kills your character (click on the 'Save' icon with the 'Hysula' disk in the disk drive). Your first task in the game is to find the correct ingredients to brew a potion to make some gold. The ingredients are: WATER PHILOSOPHER'S STONE LEAD DRAGON EGG Here is how to find and brew them: You start the game standing outside your time-mobile, on a grassy plain. A tower is opposite and a path runs from left to right. Follow the path right. The path leads straight into a barn. You will see another path leading off to the left just in front of the barn. Follow it until you reach a well. Turn the handle of the well by clicking on it with the right mouse button when you are near. A bucket will appear attached to the well's rope. Untie the bucket by clicking on the rope and make sure the word 'bucket' appears in your inventory. Follow the path back to the tower. Open the tower's door by clicking on the yellow handle. Enter the tower and climb the stairs to the top. You will see a cauldron. Empty the bucket's contents into the cauldron by clicking on the black part and exit the tower. Follow the path back to the barn and go in. You will see a cow, a stool and a milk churn. Click on the cow's udders to milk the cow, using the empty bucket. Click on the churn to empty the bucket again. Now take the stool - it's your reward from the farmer for milking his cow for him. Go out of the barn and follow the path that branches right. Turn left at the well and continue walking past another path to your right. You will reach a hut with an elderly man sitting on a rock outside. Give the old man the stool (click on him with the right mouse button) and he'll give you his rock. Take the rock back to the tower and put it in the cauldron. Follow the path back past the well and this time take the right branch that you avoided earlier. You will enter what looks like a cave. Standing nearby you will see a prince, and not far away is another entrance. If you talk to the prince he will tell you he needs an invisibility potion which is guarded by a red dragon, further on in the cave. Save the game now, the next part is dangerous! Go through the other entrance. You will find yourself in a huge cave. Don't dally because there's a nasty looking dragon standing near you. Use the keyboard controls (they move you quicker) and run past the dragon into the back of a cave. You will see a niche with a bottle in it. Take the bottle (it contains the invisibility potion) and run back out of the cave. The prince will swap the potion for a lead charm. Take the lead charm back to the tower and put it in the cauldron. You'll need some more lead as the charm isn't enough. On the table near the cauldron is a set of weights. Take them and put them in the cauldron. To get the Dragon Egg you'll need to visit the cave again. Use the same method as before to get past the dragon. You'll see the egg on the ground underneath the dragon's left wing. Creep up on the dragon from behind and take the egg and then run like hell for the exit. Don't worry if the dragon's fire has depleted your energy - if you are careful you will not have to lose any more. Take the egg back to the tower and pop it in the cauldron. After a few seconds a big chunk of gold will appear in the cauldron. Get it and leave. Outside the tower follow the path in the opposite direction from before and you will reach a bridge. The bridge is guarded by a troll. Approach him carefully or he'll zap you and click the right mouse button to give him the gold. He will agree to let you past. Cross over the bridge and you'll find a path leading off in two directions, left and straight ahead. Follow the path left until you reach a ruined castle. Cross over the drawbridge and enter the courtyard. You'll see the keep straight ahead. If you look at the ground to the left of the keep you should find a yellow patch. This is, in fact, a lost and discarded gold coin, so take it and go back to the bridge. Follow the path that went straight ahead and you will come to a T-Junction. A sign-post tells you that the docks are to the left and the castle is to the right. Go to the docks. You'll see a tavern. A boat without a sail is moored at a wharf. Enter the tavern and give the owner a gold coin. He'll tell you to choose a barrel to take a drink from. Click on any of the barrels and then click on the mug that appears in the Barman's hands. He will then give you permission to use his boat. Go all the way back to the tower. In the same room as the cauldron there is a cupboard with a set of scales on. Get the scales and take them back to the T-Junction. You should see a shop at the other side of the road. Enter the shop and give the owner the scales. He will give you a tablecloth. This can be used as a sail on the boat for the boat at the docks. Put the sail on the boat (click on the mast while standing on the deck). Go past the shop and take the previously unexplored branch of the T-Junction. You will reach a castle. In the courtyard there is a sword. Take it and go to the ruins. Enter the ruin's keep and take the steps down. You will enter a chamber with a door on the far wall. An orc guard is guarding it. Click on the orc guard and he will cower away from you because you have the sword. Go back to the tower. There is a door at the top which leads out onto a balcony. On the balcony is a key. Take it and use it to unlock the door in the ruins which the orc was guarding. Open the door and you will let the beautiful princess out. She will walk off to find her way home. Go to the docks and get on the boat. Click on the boat's rudder and the boat will start moving. Wait for the boat to dock on a new island and then disembark. You will see in the distance another castle. Go towards it and enter. The king will be standing in front of you. He will congratulate you for rescuing his beloved daughter, the princess, and will tell you to go through a doorway. Do as he says and you will come into a room with a large plinth at the side. On the plinth is a data disk! Take it and leave the castle. Get on the boat, click on the rudder and the boat will sail back to the other docks. Get off the boat and go all the way back to your time-mobile, which is parked opposite the tower. Go in and shut the door using a button on the control console. A message will appear telling you that you have completed the game.
