Prince Of Persia 2 Hints Supplied by Alex McEwan This is not a complete solution, just some hints and tips to help you get past the trickier parts of this excellent arcade/puzzle game. Level 2 Go left from the beach on which you are washed up. There are four stepping stones, one of which has a symbol carved on it. This symbol also appears on the cliff wall on the other side of the quick sand. Avoid stepping on the stone with the symbol, but step on the other three to get to the other side of the trap. After a few seconds the last stone will sink into the quicksand and a door will open in the cliff wall. Level 4 The skeleton that stands on the rickety bridge seems to have caused a lot of people a lot of trouble. As you step onto the bridge from the right you should step on a keystone which will open a door on the next screen to the left. As you attempt to cross the bridge, the skeleton, which cannot be killed in normal combat, will engage you in a fight. During the course of your duel, you will change places with the skeleton, and as you do, he will run to the right to step on the keystone, and thus close your exit door. If you don't swap places with the skeleton, the bridge will eventually collapse and you will both fall to your respective deaths. The trick is to change places with the skeleton and to prevent him running for the keystone. To do this you must hit, or attempt to hit him as soon as he turns his back to you. This will cause him to turn back and fight with you. You have to repeat this as many times as required, and at the same time maintain a position around the fourth or fifth step from the left hand side of the bridge. If you can keep him there long enough the bridge will collapse, and if you have stayed close enough to the left hand side you should be able to grab on to the last fixed segment. Two final points, you must step on the keystone at the right as you enter the area. If you don't, neither will the skeleton. If you try to be too cautious and stay too close to the left hand edge once you have changed places, the bridge will not collapse. It requires the combined weight of you and the skeleton on the weakest section to bring this about. The Horse Statue Level If you fight your way through on 'ground' level and keep going as far left as you can, you will pass a statue of a horse, before crossing a desert area. At the edge of the desert, you will come to a chasm, which is too wide to jump, where the royal palace is visible in the distance. In order to cross the chasm you have to bring the horse to life. You achieve this by jumping on to its back from the screen to the right of the statue. The best way to handle this level is to first eliminate all the heads and the snake on the ground, before retracing your steps to climb up at the point where you first met the snake. You then have a very tricky step sequence to make if you are to reach the horse, and if you fail you have no option but to go back to the beginning of the level. A good save at this point is highly recommended. The Flame Level The inscription on the wall can be read in two ways. It says, He who would steal the flame must die. This is a hint rather than a warning. The trick is to let yourself be killed by the last bird man, on the screen where you can see the flame. If you do, your spirit will leave your body and jump into the flame. You will then be reincarnated and all the bird men will fall down before you as you make your way back to the right and the exit door. If you kill the last guard and jump into the flame while still alive you will simply kill yourself. Remember the inscription, you must die to get the flame. The Chess Board Level There is little to be gained by going down to the spider area. You can increase your life force by constantly killing the two guards who appear and reappear, but this is of no benefit, as you will see if you read on. Go right 2 screens from the start point on the board, you will have to make a couple of jumps to do this. You will find yourself in a crystal area with four exact replicas of yourself. Climb up the one on the top left and align yourself exactly with him so that it appears that there is only one of you. An easy way to get the exact alignment required, is to take up a position slightly behind the image and then draw and re-sheath your sword a number of times. The slight step forward each time you do this should help you line up with the image. Your life force will start to decrease and when it gets to four 'bottles' you will transform into your flame state. Kill three of the images while you are in this state but don't turn your back on them while doing it. As you kill the third image, the fourth one will disappear. Climb up to the area above the crystal, and go right until you find him again. He will run away from you as you enter the area. Follow him and eventually you will be able to get close enough to hit him with a fireball. The fireball is produced instead of a sword when you are in flame state.
