Escape from the Planet of the Cardboard Monsters - Andrew Herbert (3D Construction Kit game for Amiga on PD 515) Reviewed by Nigel Parker There must be hundreds of different computer game titles out there, but how many games have you actually bought just because the title sounded interesting? Not too many, I bet, but who could resist wanting to get this just to discover what it's all about? I know I was intrigued and all sorts of images as to what might be in the game were flowing through my mind as I loaded it up. After a couple of bright, bold intro screens, it was into the game itself. E.F.T.P.O.T.C.M. was written using the 3D Construction Kit and consists of the usual cluster of arrows for directional movement/tilting your head/standing and squatting and save/load icons. The presentation of the game screen is excellent and looks very professional, but the "action window" is a little on the small side. The graphics are of a good standard with a pleasing use of colour. Sound consists of just the odd spot effect here and there. The main problem with this game is there's just not enough of it. I managed to complete it in about half on hour, only saving the game once! And now I know how to finish it, I can finish it in under three minutes!! Yes, under three minutes, can you believe it? This is such a shame as the Author seems to have a good grasp of how to get the best out of the 3D Con Kit and I would love to see more of his work. But as a stand-alone game I'm afraid I can't recommend this, as there are no puzzles within it that a reasonably competent adventurer will have any trouble in solving and I'm sure most people will just sail through it. Oh, and finally, just where are those Cardboard Monsters? I remember passing a man with a strange "bouncing wig", he may have been cardboard but I think not.
