BMK BMK The Bitmap Kid and James 'too popular' Judge Present The Sixth edition of a multi-part guide to DDDDDD UU UU NNNNN GGGGGG EEEEEE OOOOO NNNNN DD DD UU UU NN NN GG EE OO OO NN NN DD DD UU UU NN NN GG GGG EEEEEE OO OO NN NN DD DD UU UU NN NN GG GG EE OO OO NN NN DDDDDD UUUUU NN NN GGGGG EEEEEE OOOOO NN NN MMMMMM AA SSSSSS TTTTTTTT EEEEEE RRRRRR MM MM MM AA AA SS TT EE RR RR MM MM MM AA AA AA SSSSS TT EEEEEE RRRRRR MM MM MM AA AA SS TT EE RR RR MM MM MM AA AA SSSSSS TT EEEEEE RR RR PART SIX: E Q U I P M E N T I N T H E D U N G E O N S A poem. There was a cool Kid called BMK, Who wrote a DM guide for those in dismay. 'Oh please' cried a reader - 'Just never do stop', I'm being killed by Lord Chaos yielding a dirty old mop! (I never was any good at poems.) Anyway, this issue, JJ hasn't gone and starved the CSB champions as we had hoped (he's just too scared) but has contributed to the guide in a major way with info on the equipment you'll find around the dungeon. Mine (BMK) and his (JJ) work is all mixed together, but that ....doesn't really matter... ...to meeeeee. Ooooo-la, oooooo-love-er boy.... (Sorry, I just can't resist bursting into song sometimes. Please note, the words are from the Queen song, and are not my feelings towards JJ . Thought I had better clear that up. Phew.) 1 - Weapons to look out for. There are many weapons in the dungeon, the general rule being the further you go into the dungeon, the better the weapons you can get. Some weapons, however, are useful from when they are found until right at the end - the Vorpal Blade is a good example because it is the only weapon a fighter can kill 'non-material beings', that is ghosts etc, with without resorting to (casting) magic. BLADE WEAPONS Falchion: There are many to be found throughout the dungeon. They are useful to start with but after level four you should start progressing to better weapons. Falchions are also dropped by skeletons, along with shields and sometimes other basic items. Sword: Swords are dropped by Death Knights and you'll also find one on level three. Sabre: There are two to be found, one on level three, the other on level eleven. Rapier: One found on level four. Axe: One found on level four, can produce lots of damage if used by the right champion, correctly. Samurai Sword: Only found with Iaido. Delta: One found on level eight. It adds 1 point to mana. Hard Cleave: Found on level ten. Does an extra amount of damage. Diamond Edge: Diamond Edge is found on level eleven. It is more affective on armour (the Death Knights). Vorpal Blade: There are two to be found on level six. They destroy 'non-material beings'. Inquisitor: Level seven. Adds 2 points to mana and does extra damage. Fury: Fires a limited number of fireballs before becoming a normal sword. Bolt Blade: As above but it fires lightning bolts. RANGED WEAPONS Bow: One is found on level four. Crossbow: Found on level six. Does more damage than a standard bow. Speedbow: As above but is faster. Sling: One is found on level three. Useful because there are many rocks though the dungeon. Throwing Stars: There are lots lying about the place. Poison Darts: There are also many to be found, they are the best of this type of weapon - but beware - they are powerful enough that if you use them all the time your champ will miss out on experience etc! Storm Ring: Fires a limited number of lightning bolts, it is found on level nine. Arrows: Many to be found. Slayers: Arrows that do more damage and also advance ninja levels at greater speed. Rocks: Loads about the place, can be thrown by hand but cause lots more damage if used with the sling. Ful Bombs: Are found on levels 7-12. They do the same job as fireballs but you can store them better, however if you make your own you lose the flask for good. Ven Bombs: Similar to above but contain the Poison Cloud spell. BLUNT WEAPONS Wooden Club: One found on level two and they are dropped by those tough blue Ogres. Stone Clubs: Are dropped by the Stone Golems, however they are far to heavy to use or even carry. Morning Star: Two to be found, one on level eleven, one on level twelve. JJ says they are good at killing spiders. (However, don't try it on one if you find in in the bath, you'll most likely destroy the bath.) Mace: Found on level five. Mace of Order: One on level eight, it adds five points to your strength. THE FIRESTAFF: The biggie, it's the only weapon you can effectively use against the Dark Lord himself. It adds one point to all levels and can cast Brandish, Spellshield and Fireshield - it has unlimited powers. Firestaff and POWER GEM: When merged together they form the most powerful weapon (apart from your own skill and intelligence) item in the dungeon. It is used to kill Lord Chaos and adds one point to wizard levels and two to priest levels. The Firestaff can now cast Invoke, Fuse and Fluxcage. 2 - Other useful items. Most of the other mysterious items in the dungeon are certainly that! Here is a list of them together what we can figure what they do. (Some may be repeated from an earlier edition of this guide.) Wand: Casts Calm, Spellshield and Heal. A priest is needed for this item really and it is found in 'The Vault' on level three, it also adds one point to the user's mana. Dragon Spit: Found on level seven behind the turquoise door it adds seven (!) points to mana. Teo Wand: Found on level three. Casts Calm and Spellshield and also adds six points to your mana. Yew Staff: There are two to be found, one on level six and another on level ten. It adds four points to your mana score and can cast Dispel (effective against 'non-material beings') and the all-important Light. Staff of Mana: Adds TEN points to your mana and it is found on level ten. It is also able to cast Dispel and Light. Staff of Claws: Found on level five it adds four points to your mana. Sceptre of Lyf: Adds five points to mana and casts Heal and Light. One on level seven. Snake Staff: Heal and Calm, found on level twelve and adds ten to mana. Moonstone: Adds three to mana and is found on level ten. Pendant Feral: Adds one wizard level and is on level nine. Illumulet: Lights your way while saving those torches and spells. There are two to be found, one on level five and the other on level seven. The Helion: On level thirteen is where you'll find this one, it gives you better physical skills. Gem of Ages: Betters your mental skills. There are two to be found, one on level five and the other on level seven. Ekkhard Cross: Betters your protection and is found on level five. Jewel Symal: Adds fifteen points to Anti-magic scores. Choker: Huuum. Neither of us (BMK & JJ) are sure of its use, apart from making your champions look nice! Probably just there for you to puzzle over.... Go to level five for it if you wanna look your best. Crown of Nerra: Adds ten points to Wisdom. Found on level seven behind the third turquoise door. Crown Callista: Another mystery! Anyone knows what it does, write in! Orange and Green Gems: Yet more seemingly useless items to fool you into using up back pack space. As far as we know... Blue Gems: There are two to be found. One is on level three and the other later on. (JJ lost his notes, tut tut. Well, I suppose I shouldn't tut - I've lost most of mine - AWWWW!) The first opens the door in the 'Room of the Gem' and the other is used in the Riddle Room. Compass: Found at the start of level three. Useful only when testing for spinners and when you want to check your exact position of maps. Mirror of Dawn: There are two to be found. First is on level three and opens the secret door in 'The Vault', the other is used in the Riddle room. Magnifier: Found on level seven and ten. Opens secret panel on level eleven to get a ruby key. Rabbit's Foot: Three to be found (levels three, five and eight). Someone told me it increases luck in combat when held in your left hand, although I can't really test this. If that DOES work, we don't think it's a good idea to use anyway because you'll need your left had free for other things. Rope: Found on level nine. Allows you to climb down one-level pits without hurting yourself. Horn of Fear: Is found in level four and frightens the baddies (some more than others). It can also be used on Chaos, it is said, be we haven't been able to test this yet. Boots of Speed: There are four pairs to be found on levels seven, ten, eleven and twelve. They do, of course, speed you up, useful... 3 - The dungeon equipment - in more detail. Here is a larger list of the items AND monsters found on each level of the dungeon. It may not be 100% accurate and also different versions of the game may differ slightly with the location of things etc. It was compiled by another DM-playing mate of mine, so you'll have to take it as it comes!
