Lemmings 2 - The First Five Levels By James Judge This file is just for those of you who have never played Lemmings before and may be a bit wet behind the ears. Those of you who are veteran Lem bashers, click on exit and begone with you, this is a novice only zone. Right, now we've got rid of those pompous people, we can start going through the levels, one by one. LEVEL 1 This level, although it has got four exits, is perfectly safe, unless you do something completely stupid. You've got a nice range of skills so there are many possible ways to complete it. OK, if you look at the exit in the top right hand corner you will see a bucket just to the left of it. This blocks the lems so they don't fall off the screen. To the right is a slope easily climbed by them and just beyond that is a block of metal. There is no way to get through metal, so forget about it. Just to the right of the metal is a little ditch that will catch the lemmings so they won't go anywhere. So, now you know they are safe, you can move onto the next entrance which is just below the first one. To the left of this is a spade, which does the same as the bucket so they will not fall off the screen. To the right the lems will fall off a ledge and then be caught between a beach ball and palm tree. Now, as you can see, the exit is just to the right of the tree so, click on the Flame Thrower and blast through the tree. the lems will now enter the exit and be free. The next exit is just to the right and a little above the last and when the lems fall out they will be caught between a parasol and bucket. Dig down anywhere along this platform and the lems will mix with the others from the last exit. Here the lems are caught between some buildings and a can. To get you used to the Roper, click on him and make a lem a Roper so that he throws a rope from the ground up to the corner of the can. The lems will climb over that and over the bucket and then head for freedom. Right, now go back to the pocket of lems that you first dealt with. Just make one a Stomper and they will follow a pre-planned escape route. Click on the fast forward button and watch them go. Well done, you have completed the first level and gotten a gold for your trouble. LEVEL 2 Right, this is a more standard level with one lem having to go through the whole level to make a quick escape route for the other lems. This is more fun than having to worry about sixty lems at a time - you can experiment safely. OK, there is only one entrance here and the exit is almost right below it. The only trouble is you can't dig down, so it is a matter of digging upwards with the laser. Make the first lem a Jet Packer and then, using the fan, blow him right across the screen until he hits the spade that stops him from going any further right. Let him hover just before the spade and then his pack runs out. He will then walk into the spade, turn around and plummet off the cliff. This is about the maximum distance any standard lem can drop without dying. He will then hit the brolly and be stunned for a while. When he does get up and starts walking towards the huge castle, get a Basher ready and when he gets to the castle make him dig through. Be prepared as there is a small gap between the castle and ball and sometimes the Basher stops bashing. If so, get ready to click on him again. Before he gets to the end of the ball select a Glue Pourer (you've got three of them) and wait until he is through the ball and a lem distance from the ball before you make him pour. The glue will then start to form a wide block from the edge of the ledge to the next platform. Do this with all three of the Pourers and then prepare a Roper. Just before this lone lem reaches the parasol make him a Roper and throw the rope to the edge of the parasol. He will then climb to the top of the parasol and when he gets there make him a Laser Blaster. He will blast from where he is, up through the two ledges and free the other lems from where they were. The lems will fall down through the laser hole and then walk back the way the lone lem came, bumping into that block of glue you put there, so they turn around, clamber up the rope and over the parasol to get into the exit. Another level bites the dust and another gold to add to your collection. LEVEL 3 This one is quite a pig 'cos it requires you to use the keyboard as well, so you're not fuffing around, looking for the required skills. Once again, a one entrance, one lem level. The first lem that comes out of the exit make a Jumper so he jumps over the little block. Quickly select a Kayaker and when he falls into the water click on him. Select a Diver and fast forward. When the lem reaches the edge of the ledge that he has just climbed up that is to the right of the water, make him a Diver and while he is in the air press F2 and when he makes a splash click on him to make him a Kayaker. He will then paddle right and then walk up the slope. When he comes back prepare to do a bit of frenzied clicking. When he reaches the water's edge make him a Glider and blow him up to the ledge with the ball and then down onto the ball so he becomes a walker. As soon as he comes off the ball make him a Glue Pourer and the glue will fill the small hole to the left. When he has finished pouring make him a Glider and blow him up, using the fan, to the metal ledge above him. He will walk along and when he reaches the cliff make him a Bomber just before he bashes against the wall. He will lay a bomb which will explode and make an indentation into the cliff. When he is in the indentation, make him a Laser Blaster and he will blast up to the rest of the lems who will fall down, walk along the metal ledge, bash against the ball, turn around, walk over the glued hole, fall down to the ground and then into the exit. Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, you're really getting the hang of it now, aren't you? Another gold and another level. LEVEL 4 This one had me pondering for a while as I didn't know what to do with the chain. This is a one exit, two lem level that requires some damn fine timing. When the lemmings come out of the exit they will have a large area to wander around and this is to your advantage. Make the first lem a Runner and then a Jumper so he jumps over the moon, no, sorry, the ball. Then when he reaches the edge of the ledge make him jump again and he should grasp hold of the chain that is swinging to and forth. The nearer the bottom of the chain the better. Now, very quickly select the fan and then go to the top of the chain structure where those cups are going around. Use the fan just above this and you'll see the small bar below fill up. Also the chain will start swinging harder and further. When the chain is swinging as fast as possible, select a Bazooker and make the first lem that is travelling right, toward the ball on the first slope of the small lump just below the exit one when the chain (and lem) is over the globe type thing with the red tube underneath it. Hopefully, if your timing is correct the missile will fire across the screen and the chain will follow and they should both reach the right ledge at about the same time. The missile will explode and the lemming should go flying to the left, hopefully. You've got two goes at this and it does take a bit of practice. As soon as the lem hits the water make him a Kayaker and he will boat to the exit and clamber up the bucket. When he has jumped off it make him a Laser Blaster and he will blast up to his friends who will then fall to freedom. Don't blast underneath the exit as lemmings should still be coming out if you have done this operation in a reasonable time. The lems will then be free (cue "They want to break free, they want to break free"). Once again you have shown your skill at getting the least number of lems killed and another gold to add to your list. LEVEL 5 This one is far easier than the previous one so let's get going! The lems will fall into a small pit and this is where you must make two downward tunnels with two Stompers. The first lem that comes out should be allowed to walk nearly to the right hand edge of the pit and then dig down. The second lem should dig down a little way to the right of the entrance so he traps all the others. When the second lem has dug about half the way down through the ledge make him a Builder which will stop him digging. the first lem should dig all the way through. Now quickly, before he reaches the first globe which is a trap, make him firstly a Glue Pourer and then a Builder so he builds over the invisible pad below the globe. The glue will continue down the slope and fill up a hole just to the right of that which leads to the exit. Make the lem a Builder again for the next globe and while he is building select a Fencer and then click on the hoard of lems down the hole. Hopefully a lem should fence to the right so it joins up with the second tunnel. If not, start again. The lems will then just walk along to the exit - simple or what? A little hint to get the idea of the levels is to kill all but one lem on the first level and then, using that lemming, complete all the other levels. This way you get a gold for every level apart from the first and you get a good idea of what the other levels are like. This only works for the levels that need one lemming, of course, but that is most of them. - o -
