Eye of the Beholder II Locations and what can be found there - Part 2 As played by Ron Rainbird on an Amiga 500 (1 meg) CATACOMBS LEVEL 2 ----------------- Plenty of fights on this level against High Level Clerics and Skeletal Warriors with a high resistance to magic. Try to split up groups of Skeletal Warriors by backing away. They are easier to beat when they are in pairs instead of fours. Several important keys to be found. In all, 4 Skull Keys (1 from a Priest after killing him) and 2 Darkmoon Keys - again 1 from a battle with Priests. With 1 Skull Key, you will also find a Robe +1 and a Dagger +2. In a very dangerous area to the north, surrounded by Skeletal Warriors, you can get a Scroll of Neutralise Poison; a similar scroll can be found at the eastern end of this particular location. In the middle of this northern area you can get a worthwhile pile of equipment including an Axe +2, 2 Scrolls of Cure Serious Wounds, a Short Sword +2, 2 Iron Rations, non-magical Boots and Helm. In sub-level 1, a door which can only be opened by a thief leads to a Lightning Bolt Scroll and a Skull. In the northeast section, a corridor leading west leads to the Horn of East Wind, 2 Potions of Healing and a Potion of Speed. In the south you can get a Mage's Spell Book, a Skull Key, Shield +1, Long Sword +1, Helm +1, Plate Mail +2, Iron Ration. In the extreme west, look for Potions of Vitality and cure Poison. A word about the Wind Horns. When you have collected one for each of the four cardinal points, you will be able to enter the Silver Tower Level 1 from the Temple level 1 by using them, in any order, at the Seal of the Four Winds. When approaching the northern domain of the Skeletal Warriors, you will find a lever which, when pulled, reveals a Skull Key. It also discharges a fireball so just pull the lever then quickly step back until the fireball passes you. Roughly in the centre of this level, you will come across the bones of San-Raal, a Level 8 Mage. Take them to the Resurrection Altar in sub-level 2 of the temple so that he may form part of your group. He makes an excellent addition with some really good spells. To get to the next level, you will find that a passage going northeast has a frail western wall in the penultimate square. Hit it a few times and it will dissolve revealing a staircase to Level 3. Just prior to entering that square, a fireball will be released at you. Don't try to dodge it, otherwise others will be fired from different directions. Just hope that you have sufficient hit points to take it. Once down the stairs, you can rest and restore your party. @~To be continued next issue. - o -
