Hugo's House of Horrors - on PD 385 (Graphic adventure for PC) Review by Janice Charnley This is a shareware graphic adventure by David P. Gray, which seems to cover just 15 locations. The story is that Hugo must search a haunted house to find his missing sweetheart, Penelope. The game begins with Hugo standing outside the locked front door of the haunted house. He needs to obtain the key, in order to enter and begin his search. As Hugo stands outside on the pavement, there are blinking eyes peering at him from the darkened windows of the house. The graphics are well-drawn and colourful and are similar to those in Zak McKracken and Maniac Mansion. Hugo is moved around by the arrow keys, and commands are typed in via the keyboard. Once inside, he will have to avoid the monsters in the dining room and the vicious dog just off the kitchen. Fortunately the butler has something that will occupy the dog, allowing Hugo to enter a new location. Further on, a mummy will climb out of his coffin and cause instant death to Hugo if your fingers aren't agile enough on the keyboard! Make sure you save your game regularly, particularly after this point. Once past the fisherman, who will ask you half a dozen questions, you can get your penknife out and go to the rescue of Penelope! - o -
