Boy, is it hard down there on the last but one level.... 1 - Overview. The aim of the game, of course, is to kill of our mate Chaos. Well, we're meant to 'fuse' him to his good self, but as far as we're concerned, it's the same thing. To kill him, you need a full-powered firestaff which has had the power-gem treatment. The firestaff itself is on level seven, although the keys to get at it are not - you'll have to search for them. Once you have the firestaff, you want to get to the lowest level of the dungeon, via the Master Stairway (locked up by skeleton keys) if at all possible. 2 - The Dragon. At the end of the stairway is a passage leading to a lever - pull it. A wall will disappear leading to the big Dragon. He's tough, so you need to get him to follow you to the stairs you entered by. Once there, kill him, the biggest fireballs are good. Run out of the way of HIS fireballs, and charge up the stairs when you need to. When he is dead, eat him up and make sure you have one tough team. 3 - The Power Gem. Return to his chamber and under a pile of ashes you'll find a key. Go to the left and use the key in the keyhole (odd eh?) and in the small room beyond you'll find the Power Gem encased in its shell. Cast a ZO CATH RA and put in 'on' the Power Gem - it's shell disintegrates. Next put the Fire Staff on the gem and it will power up. You now have the tool to kill Chaos. 4 - Killing Chaos. From where you got the gem, leave the small room via the original door and cross the big chamber. On the other side of the room you'll find another stairway - watch out - it leads straight to Chaos. Chaos's level is guarded by black fire (or tar) pits that can regenerate, and also fairly tough demons that can throw fireballs. Chaos himself isn't too deadly if you have a good team, but is sneaky. First, he floats, so he can "walk" over pits. Second, he can teleport, and even completely disappear from the level for some time. First point, kill off any demons you find, they'll only hinder your job. Leave the tar pits, you can do it quite well and it's pointless trying to kill the blighters (or should I say lighters?!). To get Chaos, you need to surround him in Fluxcages, which appear like golden blue-mists. He can move OUT of a Fluxcage, but not INTO one, and he is fast so you'll need to be quick. Once you find him in a good spot, Fluxcage EVERYWHERE around him. With any luck you'll eventually trap in completely. Once you've done that quickly enter a square next to him, face him and cast 'fuse'. If you've managed it, he'll explode and fuse with your friend. Of course, it IS harder than it sounds! Once you've killed him, you've won the game. The end. 'FIN'. The close-game sequence? - There is none! This is Dungeon Master - the original, remember! Well done, few have ever done it! If you have anything to say about DM or CSB, write to JJ or myself, SynTax's resident DM experts at the normal addresses (although HE hasn't completed it. Ha ha ha.). PS I was planning to do guides to the levels themselves, but in the end I decided not to and that a more overall view of the game would be better (as well as less time-consuming). If however, you would like more help, you know where to write. The next guide will be a CSB one, and a lot of DM points apply to it too. BMK BMK - o -
