@~Another 'the story so far' partial solution - if anyone can @~add to it, please write in! Incomplete solution for McMurphy's Mansion (version 1.2) Author: David Martin SynTax disk #: PD 196 Solution by Bev Truter GETTING STARTED The aim of the game is to find 3 Master clues, 12 gold bars, and your uncle's fortune that are hidden in and around the mansion. It is essential to look on, in, under and behind objects as well as at them; and this partial solution covers 11 gold bars and 1 Master clue. THE LOCKED ROOM This is the Gameroom, and cannot be entered initially from the Hall. Instead you have to open the north window in the Master Bedroom, go north (on the ledge), drop the board to cover the gap, go east, open window, go south. The machine in here operates by putting the coin in the slot, but has to be plugged in first. "Look behind" machine to do this. You will get clue card #1, which can be translated by jumping backwards one letter in the alphabet for each letter on the card; for example, "hpme" would translate to "gold". When you have solved this clue, repeat the same procedure with the machine to get clue card #2. This lists a selection of words ending in "-est", and conspicuous by its absence is the word "nest", (hint, hint). MASTER CLUES Unfortunately I could only find one of these - Master Clue #2 - which is in the Southeast corner of the Front Lawn. If you are battling to find it, "look behind rock" does the trick. FINDING THE SAFE The safe is in the Living Room, behind the painting. Look at the painting in the mirror, then examine/read the signature in the mirror. Finally, fiddle with the urn, which is one of the curios on the table in the Foyer. ("turn the urn"). THE GOLD BARS 1. In the Rose Garden. Bring along a shovel and "dig", several times. 2. Up a tree. Climb the tree with golden berries west of End of the Drive. You will have to shake the tree a couple of times before it falls down. 3. In Your Bedroom. In the locked box on the dresser, McBee gives you the key for this at the beginning of the game. 4. In the Blue Bedroom. Try looking under the bed. 5. In the Storage Room at the top of the stairs. Move the hutch at the west end of the hallway to find the stairs. If you fall through the storage room floor in the dark, you will realize there's a gold bar under the floorboards. The language demands of this game are very specific, so if you have tried pulling, lifting, prising, moving, and levering the boards with no success, try "push boards". 6. In the Storage Room east of the first one, inside the locked trunk. If you examine the trunk, you will find the lock is old and rusty.......so "hit lock with hammer". 7. In the Foyer. In the urn. If you haven't found the urn yet, you're not really interested in this game, are you??? 8. No hassles with this one - McBee will find you at about this point, and give you a gold bar. 9. In the Study. Try fiddling with the globe. You'll find if you turn it Scotland will face you instead of America, then "push bump". 10. In the Living Room. Examine the emblem on the wall carefully, and you will notice the banner underneath has a motto written on it. If your Latin is a bit rusty or non-existent, it translates roughly as "gold is underneath". If you are still having problems, try "push banner". 11. In the Foyer. If you examine the grandfather clock carefully, you will see there's a gold bar in it, but the door is stuck. If you remember the clock striking the hour, it's 7 o'clock, although the hands on the clock are pointing to 2. So alter the hands to 7 o'clock (rather tricky, this one) by "turn dial to 7". This releases the door so you can open the clock and look inside. This is as far as I could go.....sorry! As an afterthought, if you are having problems reading the diary, then read the McManual file, which details exactly how to do it. Good Luck! - o -
