@~Two solutions for Beneath a Steel Sky have come through. This @~issue I am printing John's, and next I'll start Roy's which is a @~lot longer. BENEATH A STEEL SKY - Virgin Solution by John Moore UPPER LEVEL The book tells you how to escape the first guard and enter the furnace room. When you have told Joey to open the door a cut scene follows, examine the corpse and get the ID card and glasses. Leave the room and you end up on the walkway, do a bit of exploring to see what there is to see. On each level in the game there is a LINC terminal. Use the ID card to get information but don't worry yet about not being able to access the security files. Go to the right where you notice a loose cable hanging on the wall and enter the factory, talk to the girl until the supervisor arrives and transfers her to another department. It doesn't matter what you say to Lamb, just wait till he has gone and walk right. Try to enter the room on the left and the man with the clipboard (Jobsworth) tells you that it is for robots only. Tell Joey to search the room and wait until he returns, tell him to disconnect the fusebox and he will refuse to do it in his present shell. Use the spanner on the cogs to stop the conveyer belt and go to the robot welder, use the spanner on him and give the shell to Joey. He can then do the fusebox bit. Enter the storeroom and lift the gangway to get the putty, ask Joey to analyze it to find it is plastic explosive. IMPORTANT NOTE HERE, the key and can of WD40 are of no use and cannot be taken from the factory as jobsworth searches you every time you leave the storeroom. Leave the factory and head for the power room, use the spanner on both switches to remove the safety devices and you and Joey press the buttons together. The engineer will wake up and depart, flip the switch and remove the light bulb, put the putty in the socket and flip the switch which will blow the locks. Pull the levers this will reactivate the lifts. Before you leave on the lift get Joey to cut the loose cable. Use the ID card in the lift slot and go to the lower level. LEVEL TWO Pick up the cable and go right, enter the Insurance office and note the anchor on the statue, leave the office and enter the Travel office, talk to the guy and leave. Walk round until you come to the apartment block, use your card on Reich's door and search the bed until you find a magazine under the pillow. (No, it's not THAT kind), leave and if you see Lamb talk to him. Look through his window then go to Dr Burke's office. Joey will talk to the hologram to open the door. Finally prepare (GUYS ONLY) to make the ultimate sacrifice later. Go back to the Travel office and swap the magazine for a holiday ticket. If Lamb has told you he needs a holiday then give him the ticket. You need to go back to the upper level until he takes the ticket and in return will give you a tour of the factory. This enables you to get past Jobsworth who now has a name. Talk to Anita until she alters your ID card to enable you to access security on LINC. She gives you a lot of good information especially about a Schreibmann port. Back to the Doctor and make the sacrifice (phew, lucky). At some stage Lamb will tell you how to approach the Insurance man, the Doc will give you a better intro, when Anchor leaves the desk get Joey to weld the statue then attach the anchor to the cable. Go back up to the fire escape where you escaped the first guard and use the grappling hook on the sign. Once inside the building use the LINC terminal and access security. At some stage you can change Lamb's status to D linc but wait until later when you are sure he is on the upper level. The lockers are no good even though you can open Reich's, the only exit is the scanner door but as yet you are not cleared to use it. Here comes my favourite part(s) of the game. Use your card in the interface slot and use the interface, once inside LINC you must solve the problems to get the Phoenix file, this will give you unlimited clearance to go anywhere. It's a bit tricky and to be honest I can't remember exactly how I did it - SORT IT OUT YOURSELF. Disconnect from LINC and if you were successful your ID card will show your status chance. Leave via the scanner door and when Lamb is on your level change his status using the terminal. He is now unable to leave that level but is worried about his cat. Offer to feed it for him and he authorises you to enter his building. Once inside get the video cassette and feed the cat. You are now ready to go down to the park with your new status. GROUND LEVEL Talk to Mrs Pierrepont and introduce yourself as Overmann, talk about the dog and get as much info as possible. Talk to all the characters in the park and you should get the idea of what is required. To get into the club the woman must sponsor you, she will do it from home so ring her bell. Once inside the flat wait until she phones the club and put the cassette in the video, when the dog starts barking nick the biscuits and leave. Put the biscuits on the planks and wait for the dog to appear, when it is close pull the rope and the dog gets a bath. The guard leaves his post so enter the cathedral and open the lockers until you find Anita. At this point there is nothing further in the cathedral, in fact there is no need to return there. Go to the club and talk to everyone, explore a bit and at the bottom of the room you find a door and a metal plate. This plate can only be opened by the manager (well, maybe). Now is the time to go back to top level and go to Anita's bench, get the suit and open the reactor door, get the card and leave. Go to security and use the interface with Anita's card. Blind the eyeball to get to different locations, at this point you cannot pass the crusader. At the well use playback to get the message. Disconnect and go back to the park to talk to the gardener. Next go to the shed and use a card to slip the lock on the door, note you must examine the door to find the lock. Get the secateurs and examine the brickwork, back to the club and talk again. If the band has gone use the jukebox and play the first record then return to the card table until the record jams. Grab the glass and away. At some point the courtroom door is open, go in and defend Hobbins. (Political points, Judge Chutney/Pickles indeed). Back to the doctor and use the glass on him, he changes your fingerprints to those on the glass. Go back to the club and enter the wine cellar. Use the crowbar on the case and put the lid on the box, stand on the box and use the crowbar on the grill then the secateurs. Enter the opening and use the left hand tunnel, save the game and examine the hole. Restore the game and search until you find a socket to put the light bulb in. Use the crowbar on the plaster then the brick to get the brick, examine the root and stick the crowbar in the vein and hit it with the brick. Voila the door opens and a medical robot appears, enter the room and look through the grill. Insert the circuit board into the robot to get Joey back and ask him to get all the info on the room through the grill. When he returns go to the lava room and lower the temperature, climb on the cover and pull the metal rod. Back inside and tell Joey to open the tap on the tank. The android falls through the grill, walk past the tanks and enter the control room. There use the console to open the door, when you come out Gallagher will try to kill you but Joey rescues you at the cost of his own life. Ahh. Search the android and Joey to get the board and another LINC card. Walk through the door and get the tongs, in the next room open the cupboard on the SECOND android and insert the board then run the startup programme. Joey now wants to be known as Ken. Walk to the two hand panels and get Ken to help you open the door, he gets melted to the panel but don't worry. Walk to the rungs and down to explore, come back to the control room and enter the interface with the android card. Use the Divine Wrath on the crusader and find the crystal. Blast, we need the dreaded tuning fork. Back to the start and blind the eyeball noting how long before it opens again. Do it again and run like hell to the fork via the other routes and grab the fork before the eye opens. Use the fork on the crystal to discover the virus, get it and disconnect. Return to the room with the tissues and the nitrogen and examine the monitor. When it goes crazy get a tissue sample and dip it in the liquid nitrogen. Go back to the rungs and tie the cable to the pipe support then go down the ladder and drop the infected tissue into the orifice. This opens up an exit in the wall, swing on the cable and watch the cut scene. Finally when Ken arrives and father is about to expire tell Ken to sit in the chair. THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, FOLKS. - o -
