Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession

I got stuck in Shadow of Yserbius just as the last issue was going
out and rang Maureen to see if she had done it. She was playing it
too and, though also stuck, had got further than I had. While we
were talking about Yserbius, I mentioned that I knew of two people
stuck in Ravenloft, at a banshee who screams and kills the
characters very quickly. She knew the answer, so here it is for
anyone else who wants to know.

You need two bags of dirt which you can get from the cemetery. One
is in a crypt which you will enter anyway as part of the game. The
other is just lying about on the right hand side of the area. Take
these to the two statues outside the place where you find the
banshee and use one on each. The statues are her sisters and they
keep her quiet for you.
