/ <--- this is meant to be an acute accent BAT 2 Brute : A copy protection gripe. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ c/o Steve McGuire The review of BAT 2 in issue 24 said that STE owners would need a special adapter to be able to use the dongle in the serial port, but according to my copy of the game, this drawback only applies to Mega STE owners, and I certainly haven't had any problems playing the game on my STE (except for the incessant disk swapping and slow response, that is) This game is a real case of excessive paranoia on the part of a distributor. The game is one of the few around that comes with peripheral piracy protection, but it still can't be installed on an ST hard drive; and if ever there was a game that needed to played from a HD it's this one. I have been very disappointed by the performance of this game and I think it is pretty much unplayable. Are Atari ST users really that unreliable? My experience would certainly suggest that copyright abuse is far more prevalent in the PC world and that the abbreviation stands for Pirate Compatible. Oh, well. Nuff said, Frustrated HD owner. @~What copy protection has driven YOU crazy? I can think of two: @~the coloured pictures you had to match at the start of Future @~Wars ... only the colours were never quite right. And the huge @~sheet of coloured numbers and letters that you had to work out @~the copy protection from at the start of Legend of Djel. - o -
