Eye of the Beholder III - Part 5 Solution by Alex van Kaam @~Continued from last issue We first entered the the south/west door, behind it we only found some Bone Nagas, we killed them and we left the room. Next we went into the south/east room, here we found some small items, we took them and we left. After that we entered into the north/west room, we found some stairs leading down and we took them. We came into a small area with some Shambling Mounds, we explored the whole area and we found two buttons that removed two walls, behind these walls we found a cursed piece of armor and some other small stuff. We left and went back up the stairs, next we went into the north/east room, again we found some stairs and we climbed down. Again an area full of Shambling Mounds, we killed them and we went west through a door leading into a room with two pressure pads and two doors. When we stepped on the pads they closed the doors, and since they were in front of the doors we couldn't leave. After a bit of searching we found a button on the north wall, we pushed it and a wall was removed, behind it we found a lever, pulling that opened the doors. We continued west, killing some Shambling Mounds, the last one we killed left a golden key behind, we got the key and we went back up the stairs again. We left the room with the four doors and we headed north through a corridor until we came to a T-junction. Here we went west, after a while we came to a room with three doors to the west and three levers beside them. We opened all the doors, we didn't need the levers for that, and behind the middle door we found a scroll, on it was a poem about morning light. We read it, and Gandalf kept it since we didn't know what we could use it for. We also pulled at the levers, we heard a sound but we saw nothing happen. South brought us to another room where we found some Bone Nagas to kill, the rest of the room was empty so we headed back to the T-junction and we went east. Through a door we came again to a room with three doors and three levers, behind the doors we found some Bone Nagas and a cursed piece of armor. The third door led to another room, before we entered we first pulled all three levers, again hearing something in the distance. We now went through the third door and we came in a room full of Bone Nagas, we killed them and we continued south. We were now in a room with a speed potion and three pressure plates which had a hole opposite them. When we wanted to leave the exit was closed, it seemed we had to put something on the plates, but without getting hurt by those holes. The solution was to get in front of the hole and throw something to the plate opposite the hole, at the same time we stepped aside. It worked and soon we had an item on all three the plates, the exit was open again and we could leave. We went back to our starting room with the two stairs and from there we went south, again a turner turned us around but we now knew how it worked so it formed no problem. We were now in another room with a pillar in the middle and four doors, we first entered the north/west door where we found a wall censor, Gandalf filled it with some incense and we went to the north/east room. Here we found some items, we took them and we headed to the south/east room, again some items were found and we headed to the last room, the south/west one. When we passed that pillar in the middle Nomad spotted a small button, pushing that revealed a passageway leading south. In the south/west room we found a statue of Lathander, we all kept touching it until we were all healed, we left the room and we headed south. In the this corridor we found, just before we entered a room, a plaque saying 'D-N-E- H-G- V-L-A-E', this could only mean one thing Gothmog said 'DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE'. We decided to run south as fast as we could through this room and just hope we get through safe. So said so done, we went a few steps back and ran full speed south, through the room into another corridor leading south. When we were in this corridor we turned around and we just saw the last lighting bolt fly past, we made it!! We continued south until we came to a crossroads, here we turned west, through a door into a large area of corridors, we searched them all and we found gauntlets of hill giant's strength and a frost key. We went back to the crossroads and we headed east, again an area full of corridors, the only thing we found here was a cure critical scroll, we got it and we went back to the crossroads. We now headed south, through a door, and we came to a plaque saying 'Blessed Are The Pure Of Heart For They Shall Find The Way' We went east, past the plaque into a corridor leading north or south. The corridor was full of turners, we kept a good look at our compass and we headed north, east, south and east until we were at a door with a frost lock. We used our frost key to open the door and we went through, we followed a corridor leading east until we came into a room with two statues of Lathander, we kept heading east, killing some more Shambling Mounds, until we came into another room. In the south/east we saw stairs leading up but we first entered a corridor leading north. We soon came to a door with a golden lock, we opened it and behind the door we found the Orb of Morninglight, I got it and suddenly the god Lathander appeared before us. He gave us the sword of Dhauzimmer, and he told us that it would take care of any undead we would encounter. I got the sword, and I wanted to give it to Delmair, since it was the sword of his father, he refused and said that we all had a magical weapon except for Nomad who only had a normal two handed sword. I gave it to Nomad and we went up the stairs. --------> Hello Dark God, we are already on this floor <-------- We entered in a small room with a pillar in the middle and two exits, one leading west and the other north. On the pillar in the room there were a few plaques saying 'Lathander Spreads His Protective Light Over All In This Holy Hall Of Sanctuary' and 'Be Welcome, Friends, And Partake Of Lathander's Bounty'. We left the room using the east corridor and we were attacked by a Banshee, we took care of it and we continued. We soon came to a small room with corridors leading south and east, and two doors leading north and west. Any of the corridors took us back to the entrance room so we went through the west door, opening it with a button beside it. The corridor led to a T-junction, we first went north and we found a copper key behind a hidden wall. We got the key and we went back to the T-junction, we headed south and when the corridor turned west so did we. At the first side corridor to the south we went that direction and we came to a room with a small alcove and a statue of Lathander, we touched the statue for healing, but when we looked at the small alcove after that we saw another copper key, we got the key and we left the room. Heading west brought us to staircase leading down, we took it and we came to a small area with two walkthrough walls and a transporter, we entered and we were transported to an identical room, but without the walkthrough walls, but with three Dead Knights, we killed them and we found a scroll of resurrection. We then took the stairs down but they took us to another part of the level and since we didn't want to get lost we headed back up the stairs, through the transporter into the first room and back down the stairs again. We were now back at the starting area of this level, we headed west and we soon came, after killing a Spirit Naga, into the main south corridor. Here we could choose, north or south, we headed south and we soon came to a door with a copper lock, we opened it and we came to a room with a plaque saying 'The Smallest Of Embers Can Ignite Hope Eternal', touching the plaque caused an explosion. In the south of this room, in front of a window, we found a beacon of hope, it was out and since we didn't have a ember we left the room. We took the first corridor leading west, we soon came to a hole in the wall and a side corridor leading north, we went north and we found a lever on the wall, pulling it threw two spells towards us, one from the south and one from the north. We wouldn't do that again that was sure, we continued north and we followed the corridor as it turned east. We were now back in the main south corridor, we headed north and we came to a square-like corridor, all the other main corridors, the north, east, west and of course south one, ended here. In each corner we found a golden cup and a small alcove, there were also four plaques saying 'Sustenance For Body And Spirit Is Freely Given Within The Wall Of This Temple' and 'The Cups Of Good Cheer Bring Forth The Hero's Feast'. We decide to put all the golden cups into their alcoves, as soon as we placed the last one in, four walls were removed and we could enter into the middle of the square corridor. Here we found an ember and a large feast table in the middle of the room, using it restored us completely and gave us strength to fight the Dark God, very handy indeed. We took the ember and we headed south towards the beacon of hope, we put the ember in and the beacon started to burn, it looked great. What next, we headed back north and into the first west corridor, at the hole in the wall we turned north the first time so we headed west and south this time. We soon came to a door which was open, it seemed that pulling that lever has some use after all, we entered and we came to an area full of corridors and rooms, we killed some Banshees and a few Spirit Nagas, and we found a shield +4 and a flail. In the end we found a room with a plaque saying 'May The Sweet Air Of Lathander's Temple Give You Respite From Your Pain', a wall censor, a piece of ember and a scroll. We filled the wall censor with a bag of incense and we took the scroll and the piece of ember. These two items were protected by a hole casting a spell at us when we stepped on a pressure plate in front of the items. It could all be turned off by a lever above the pressure plate. We left this area and we headed back to the centre of this level, the feast table, here we headed west into the west corridor. We entered the first room to the south, killing some Banshees and finding another copper key. We also passed a north corridor but we kept heading west until we came to a door with a copper lock, we opened it and we found ourselves in a similar room as we found at the end of the south corridor. There was a beacon of hope in front of a window and a plaque on the wall saying 'While Yet The Beacons Burn, The Key To Passing Into Darkness Without Fear Is Faith'. We lit the beacon and we left the room, we now entered the first corridor leading north. We soon came to a room with an altar and a bag of incense, we took the bag and we left. We kept heading north/west, past some corridors leading east into the main north corridor, until we came to a door with a pressure pad in front of it, stepping on the pad closed the door. It was pure luck that we found the solution, a Banshee came from behind the door, when it was open, and Gothmog threw a dagger at it, but the dagger just went through the Banshee and it landed on a pressure pad at the other side of the door. We entered and we headed west into another room, here we found a plaque saying 'Faith Must Go Before All Good Souls', and a transporter. Stepping into the transporter just transported us to the entrance of this room, it seemed we had to have or do something special to let the transporter work correctly. Anyway we left it and we headed back to the centre of this level, here we headed east into the main east corridor, we first entered all the doors and corridors leading south. Here we found absolutely nothing, we then headed back into the main east corridor and we entered the room at the end, again we found a beacon of hope and a plaque saying 'The Eternal Light Of Hope Fuels The Beacon Of Sanctuary. May All Enjoy Their Benevolence' Since we didn't have a piece of ember we left and we entered the first north corridor we saw, this again brought us to an area full of corridors and rooms, in one of these room we were locked in after entering, we killed the Banshees that were in it and one of them left a key so we could leave. Here we also found a staircase leading down, this was the stairs where we went back down again in the beginning of this level. In the north/east part of this area we found a plaque saying 'Have Faith In What You See'. The plaque wasn't in the same writing as the others so it had to be false. West and east of the plaque there was a pit, since the plaque was false so had to be the pits. We first crossed over the east one where we found a key at the end of the corridor in a room. We then headed back to the plaque and we crossed the west pit, again the corridor lead to a room, a very large one this time, here we found the last two pieces of ember, we took them and we headed to the east room with the beacon of hope. We lit the beacon and we went into the main north corridor, at the end we found another room with a beacon of hope and a plaque saying 'Faith Is Found On The Altar Of Devotion'. We lit this beacon also and we headed to the altar we found at the side corridor on the main west corridor. On the altar we found the key of faith, we then headed to the transporter with the plaque saying something about faith going first. We threw the key of faith into the transporter and its colour changed, we stepped into the transporter and we were transported onto the next level. --------> Knock, Knock, who is there?......don't ask <-------- We were transported into a room with three doors and a plaque saying 'Against These Gates Neither Stealth Nor Sword Nor Prayer Shall Prevail', Gothmog said nothing and he just cast his dispel magic spell, the doors all opened and we were attacked by Shadow Hounds from the north and Death Knights from the south, we killed them eventually but we were heavily damaged. That would probably the last time that Gothmog would cast a spell without asking..... Anyway we rested and we entered through the north door, we explored the whole area and we found nothing, zip, zero. We headed back to the entrance hall and we went through the south door, here we found fountain and a small alcove, the alcove was empty, strange ?, and the fountain gave us the prayer spell. We went back to the entrance hall and we headed west, in this room there were four heads on the wall that spat a spell towards us, we quickly walked through them, grabbing a crystal key that was on the ground, and we headed west. We were now at a kind of crossroads, to the north and south were corridors and to the west two doors that needed a crystal key. We decided to first explore the south part, here we found a hammer but nothing else of interest, we then headed north to explore that part, we killed some more Death Knights and we found another crystal key, a coin and a scroll for Gothmog. We got them all and we headed back to the two doors with the crystal lock. On our way to there Gandalf suggested that we maybe could throw the coin into the fountain for good luck. Since we didn't have any other use for it we headed to the fountain and we threw the coin in, we got another prayer spell and a crystal key appeared in the small alcove. We got the key and we went to the two doors, we heard some Shadow Hounds behind them so we prepared our weapons and I opened the doors. The Hounds came from everywhere, we fought a long battle and we killed at least 15 or so. We explored the room and we found a door leading west and two bowls of holy water in the north and south corners of the room. We went through the doors and we came out in a corridor heading from north to south. Across our entrance there was a small room where a Death Knight came out and approached us, well we thought let's kill him and continue, but boy were we wrong, with every stroke of his sword he threw a fireball towards us. We went back to the room and we kept walking around him and hitting him till he was dead, phew. We went back to the corridor and we entered the room from where the Death Knight came, in this room we found the Sun Mask shield. We took it and we went back into the corridor, we first headed north, killing some more Shadow Hounds we came to a door with a crystal lock, we opened it and out poured a bunch of Death Knights, we killed them and we tried to enter. Some kind of force field kept pushing us back, there was no way we could get through it, then Gandalf suggested that we could use some water from the holy bowl we found in the main room. We went to the room, touched the water and we headed back to the room with the force field, this time we could walk through it as if it wasn't there. In the room we found the Staff of Life, we took it and we headed back to the corridor, we now headed south to explore that part, again we found a door with a crystal lock, we opened it and inside we found a lot of Shadow Hounds and a shade on the east wall, we killed the Hounds and we went to the shade. We couldn't touch it so we tried to use the Staff of Life on it, the shade vanished and we heard a sound in the distance. We turned around and there were some more Shadow Hounds, we probably forgot some when we entered the room ??? We killed them and we made camp......... 'Do you want something to eat' Gothmog asked me, I woke up from my thoughts and looked at him, 'Yes thanks' I replied. 'Were you thinking about our adventure' Isharn asked, 'Yes' I replied, 'It all seemed so far away, the mausoleum and the graveyard, you know'. 'Stop talking about the past' Nomad said, 'we have to get some rest so we can enter the Dark God's realm'. After we made camp and Gandalf took care of the food Nomad went out on a scouting mission and when he returned he told us that in the main room there was a new door, he thought that it would lead to the Dark God, I hope he's right. I had a bad night, sleeping so near to evil wasn't easy. Next morning we headed towards the door that Nomad told us about, in the middle of it there was a circle missing. I took the Sun Mask shield and placed it in the opening. The doors opened and a transporter was revealed. We readied all our weapons and we entered............. The transporter brought us right in front of the Dark God's throne, and he was on it !!!!! He told us that he was the one who hired us to clean Myth Drannor, 'But why?' Gandalf replied, 'So you could take care of Acwellan, the last protector of the city,' the Dark God answered. 'You tricked us,' Gothmog yelled. 'And what are you planning to do about that?' the Dark God laughed. 'Enough jabbering' I yelled, 'Let's KILL him.' We all attacked, first killing his Shadow Hounds and then his guards. Now we were face to face with the Dark God, we used all our powers on him, Nomad, Isharn, Delmair and myself we kept hitting him with our weapons while Gothmog and Gandalf kept casting spells at him. The whole building shook, the battle was long and hard but in the end we defeated him. --------> The End <-------- (for now at least) - o -
