Streetfighter 2 Hints and tips by James Judge OK, just a quick look at each character, how to perform most of the moves that they do and how to defeat them when playing against them, not to mention a little cheat which we will start off with: If you are playing in two player mode and you both want to play the same character pause the game just as you kill you opponent and, when he starts to hit the ground, pause the game (the 'P' key) and then type in: 7KIDS The screen should flash and then you will be able to play the same characters. This works for the ST version, I don't know about the others. Oh, and don't play either Ken and Ken or Ryu and Ryu - it confuses the computer and crashes out. Instead one play Ken and the other Ryu as they are exactly the same apart from a throw that Ken can pull off. THE CHARACTERS Before I look at each character, here's a little hint for practicing special moves. Select the two player version and then the character you want to practice. Then select another character that you need practice with. The computer will then load up the two characters and then a background and you will be able to practice on the other character (the 'dummy') without getting killed yourself. And when you win the fight, just select the same character and background so that there is no loading involved. Simple, but it may not occur to some people. RYU - The bloke in the judo kit. He is one of the hardest characters to control because of his three special moves, two of which take four joystick moves in a continuous motion and they need to be carried out in a split second. The first special move is the DRAGON PUNCH, which is useful for either getting characters that are jumping on or over you. Crouch down for a couple of seconds and then push the joystick away from you and, at the same time you are moving the stick, press fire. If you do it right you should here a few Chinese words and Ryu will leap in the air, doing an uppercut. The second move is the FIREBALL. This is useful for wearing down characters at a distance or hitting characters while they are stunned. To pull this off move the joystick down, diagonally towards your opponent and then towards your opponent while pressing fire in one, continuous, circular motion. Ryu should then shout something, put his wrists together and throw a fireball. The third move is the HURRICANE KICK which is excellent for catching the stunned or unsuspecting opponent with three very fast kick. This is pulled off just like the FIREBALL, but you must do the actions AWAY from your opponent (down, diagonally away from your opponent and away from your opponent while pressing fire). Ryu should then jump up and twirl around with a leg pointing outwards, while moving across the screen. KEN - The flash dude in the red pyjamas. Exactly the same as Ryu. E. HONDA - Tub o' lard Two special moves this time so it easy to control. HUNDRED HAND SLAP Easy this one, press the fire button three or four times in quick succession. Honda should then start slapping his op[ponent around. Useful if your opponent is stunned or in a corner. SUMO HEAD BUTT Another easy one. Pull AWAY from your opponent for a couple of seconds and then pull TOWARDS your opponent while pressing fire. Honda should then clear his throat and jump in the air, zooming across the screen horizontally, butting the opponent. CHUN LI - Phwaor! Another very easy character to control who is extremely quick. LIGHTNING KICK Just like Honda's HUNDRED HAND SLAP - press the button three or four times in quick succession. She should then scream and continuously kick for a while. Use in the same situations as the 100 HAND SLAP. WHIRLWIND KICK Useful to move in on your opponent while doing damage. Pull down on the joystick and hold for a couple of seconds then, just like Honda's BUTT, pull up and press fire at the same time. Chunners should then scream, flick herself into the air and twirl around doing the splits up-side down. BLANKA - Or PLONKA ELECTRICITY Useful any time as it stunns your opponent. Easy this one, just press fire repeatedly! ROLLING ATTACK Just the same as Honda's BUTT, with the same outcome. ZANGIEF - The Russian He is definitely NOT my favourite character. This is mainly because I can't pull off his move, so that is the only move I can't tell you how to do. His other move is: THE SPINNING CLOTHSLINE Tap the fire button repeatedly and he will spin, on the spot, with his arms flailed outwards. Simple. GUILE - The one with the haircut with a mind of its' own He is very fast and agile and proves to be both a good character to play and a difficult one to defeat. He as got two special moves, the first being... SONIC BOOM which fires two twirly things towards the opponent. Pull away from your opponent for a couple of seconds and then move the stick towards them while pressing fire, Guile will then say SONIC BOOM (although it sounds like typhoon to me) and see the fireworks fly. FLASH KICK is pulled off just like Chun Li's special move (HURRICANE KICK) and has the same effect as a DRAGON PUNCH. Pull down for a couple of seconds then up and fire together will deliver a wicked kick - hopefully in the opponents face. DHALSIM - Bendy He is the easiest character to use due to his long reach and good special move. He has got two moves, but the second (YOGA FLAME) isn't really useful because Dhalsim isn't meant to be close to his opponent. YOGA FIRE Just the same as Ken or Ryu's fireball with the same outcome. YOGA FLAME This makes Dhalsim breath flame for a few seconds, but not projecting it across the screen as with YOGA FIRE. Pull diagonally AWAY from your opponent, down, diagonally TOWARDS your opponent and then towards your opponent and fire, in one continuous motion. -- HOW TO DEFEAT... (All of this is going on the basis that you are playing Ken or Ryu as they are the characters I've had the most experience with. If I mention a DRAGON PUNCH, a strong uppercut will do the job. I won't use the other two moves (FIREBALL and WHIRLWIND KICK)) Ken and Ryu Both of these characters are quite agile and do their best job close up. Whenever they jump at you either DRAGON PUNCH or jump straight up in the air, pulling off either a kick or punch while off the ground. Then as soon as you land do a couple of quick kicks - not the strong ones (fire and down while standing) - the roundhouse or equivilent (Fire and diagonally up and away from your opponent) to move the opponent away from you. Then crouch down and wait for the opponent to move towards you or jump above you. If they jump repeat the above. If they move towards you deliver a roundhouse sweep and then a strong sweep, continually moving them away from you. If they are stunned try and throw them into a corner and (unless you are Blanka) deliver a short series of three or four sweeps to stun them. If you are Blanka keep on using ELECTRICITY. Always be on the look out for a fireball. If one is lobbed towards you, block. If you are HURRICANE KICKED crouch down and prepare to move the opponent away with short, quick kicks. E. Honda and Zangief Easy this one, don't let his weight frighten you. Crouch down and DRAGON PUNCH whenever he is above you. If he walks close enough deliver a few strong sweeps and keep on repeating until he id dead. If he is stunned, throw him into a corner and continually sweep. Chun Li All she takes is a good combination of sweeps and punches - nothing too specific. Use moves that are quick and do quite a bit of damage. Don't jump over her while she is LIGHTNING KICKing as you will definitely be stunned. Blanka He is just like Honda and Zangief. It may take a few more roundhouse kicks, though. Watch out for when he electrifies himself. Guile He is another difficult one to lay down rules to kill. I just try to jump at him, while punching, then just continue attacking whenever the opportunity presents itself. Only his SONIC BOOM will cause trouble, so be ready for the defensive blocks. Dhalsim Keep a distance from this guy! The way I do it is to jump, while punching then kick quickly once or twice then jump away and continue 'till he's dead. Watch out for his fireball too.
