BLACK CRYPT FOR WIMPS - Part 5 by Mary Scott-Parker @~Continued from last issue Level 14 [Soultaker's Domain] On level 14 there is only one bad guy, the Soultaker and if you don't manage to finish him off at the beginning of the level, he will keep popping up behind the party at awkward moments, with a harsh shriek. As with the Medusa, he will take the Death Gem of anyone he kills [unless protected] but these can be retrieved again on level 15. However, if you are quick and armed with Doomhammers, you can finish him off at the start of the level and save a lot of trouble. Go and stand at 13.16.14 and face South. After a second or two you will hear him approaching. Before he has time to turn and face the party, hit him with both Doomhammers and a couple of Quakes from Horns of Destruction, from the rear ranks. When dead he drops the Soul key. It's well worth saving the game before you start and then re-loading and trying to kill him, as it's the only time you will be able to take him by surprise. The object of the level is to find the three Skull Crowns that fit onto the skull panel at 21.11.14, to get the Darkness key to the door at 09.12, which leads to level 15 and Soulfreezer and the Octa key. 13.16 Face South and kill the Soultaker [if possible]. If dead, he will drop the Soul key [to door at 36.18.15] 17.15 Face South and proceed through false wall 16.11 Chest containing 3 Possessor keys 11.12 Open door with Possessor key 14.09 Open gate 14.02 [Speed is of the essence] Reverse into haze, then run forward, open door, run and hit button, reverse at speed [don't turn round] until noise tells you that you've gone through a teleporter, run forward, open door, hit button, reverse at speed until through teleporter, repeat with next door and button and teleporter until you are facing a wall. You should now be at 23.09. If you are too slow you will fall down a pit onto level 15. Just explore the level and then enter haze at 10.36.15 and repeat the above steps [only quicker!] 23.09 Face South and follow corridor. Spinner at 24.04. There are potions and rings of water breathing lying around on the level, but they don't last very long. I found it best to multiply the Helms so that each had one. There are 4 locked doors in a corridor, each needing a Black Pearl key, these are obtained by putting 4 pearls into oyster shells, in each of the four quarters of the map. These tasks can be done in any order, but if the party doesn't have 4 Helms of Triton, then start in the SE corner. You should also have the other 3 Octa keys. These open the doors through the Nether doors and through the Octa doors are four plates, which, when stood on, open four walls in the centre square on the map. Step on the plate behind the Northern Octa door [25.26] and the wall at 20.18 will open, step on the plate behind the Western Octa door [13.15] and the wall at 18.16 opens, step on the plate behind the Eastern Octa door [32.12] and the wall at 22.16 opens and finally step on the plate behind the southern Octa door [11.02] and the last wall at 20.14 opens. Step on the studs at 20.14 and studs will appear at 18.16, step on these and studs will appear at 20.18 and step on these and studs will appear at 22.16. There are false walls through all Octa doors, so try them all and select any useful items from the concealed alcoves. The studs at 19.13: 23.15: 17.17 and 21.20 act as teleports between the centre of the room and the four stairways. 22.16 If all the other studs are in the down position, then studs at 22.16 will be up. Step on these and you will be teleported to 26.01.14. Follow the corridor, which goes dark for three steps. 21.01 Step into skull [taken to 20.17.27] 20.15 Read rune : answer in manual. As soon as you advance a couple of steps into the room, you will be attacked by a warrior. With 2 Doomhammers and 2 Horns of Destruction you will be able to kill these warriors without using Potions of Invincibility. There are 6 on the level, 2 wandering about in the big room and 4 behind doors. 16.11 Open door. Closing it again will summon warrior. Kill warrior, when dead he drops a Ruby key. 11.06 Open door. Close it and kill warrior. Get Ruby key. 06.11 Open door. Close it and kill warrior. Get Ruby key. 11.16 Open door. Close it and kill warrior. Get Ruby key. 11.16 Open door with Ruby key. Get tablet of Runetek. 11.10 Give Vortex to Fighter; Forcehammer to Cleric; Protector to Druid and Soulfreezer to Magic User. Give each one a Potion of Invincibility and go up stairs for the final confrontation with Estoroth. 05.05 Open door and find Estoroth. Hit him with all four weapons in turn, clicking with the left mouse button. When the weapons turn blue, click with the right button and send him on his final journey. You can then save the game and wander through the inner sanctum at your leisure. Game now over, want to play again y/n? - o -
