Lands of Lore - hints By Sue I thoroughly enjoyed Lands of Lore and though the game is relatively easy due to the on-screen mapping and heavy hints from other characters, there were a few moments when it suddenly got hard. Here are a few hints for those sections that I hope you'll find useful. Classes Everyone I know picks Conrad as their character as he is a good all rounder. He will become a good fighter by the end. Don't do like I did and try to build up all your party equally. You need a strong rogue (level 4 to 5) by the end. Make sure you build one up. The Slug in the Urbish Mines This is the first really tough monster you meet. Not only does it have a lot of HP but it causes you to drop your weapons and shields. I dashed to the exit to the forest, saved, gave it a bash and went out into the forest. There I healed, went back in, gave it another belt and back out. If you do it like this, you'll find it no problem. Undead You'll first meet these ghosts and wraiths in the White Tower but there are more later in Scotia's Castle. I used emerald blades which can do much more damage than ordinary weapons. Hand of Fate spells are also good. You can also use Vaelan's Cubes if you have a spare, which I didn't in the White Tower but did by the end. You can evidently duplicate Cubes using the following method which I haven't tried. Put a dark cube in a character's weapon hand. Exit the inventory screen looking at one of Scotia's Barriers and click on the weapon hand icon with the dark cube equipped. This creates a white cube in the hand cursor. Put the dark cube in your inventory and equip the white one. Exit inventory and click on the weapon hand equipped with the white cube, creating a dark cube in the hand cursor. Put this in your inventory, exit the inventory and click on the weapon hand with the white cube again, creating another black cube and breaking up the barrier. Yvel City When the Orcs attack, the battle will seem to take a long time. Be patient. The monsters regenerate in the fog at the end of alleys. Fight in a short dead end where they don't regenerate, then you can duck down and heal when there's a break in the fighting. Lightning Bugs These are a pain! They drain spell points very quickly. You can use the Dark Gauntlet to swat them but I used fireball spells. Make use of the doors, lure the bugs to them, duck through and shut the door and rest to restore mana, open the door, let off a spell and rest again if necessary. Knowles and Xeobs It seems very hard that you have to annihilate one race but that's the way it goes ... I dispatched the Knowles as they seemed to have fewer HP though they cast some powerful spells. Again, I used doors to hide behind whenever possible, healed, went back in and used fireball spells. As my characters were pretty strong by then, I dumped my armour for a few fights to save it being dissolved, which would have forced a restore. Room with no Map This is in Scotia's Castle and it is quite a shock to lose your map after you've been used to having it. I used the traditional text adventurer's mapping method of dropping objects. You have to drop items on the plates, but I dumped more stuff too at other locations. I could then tell which way I had been teleported or spun. Scotia Before entering her room, save and put the Whole Truth in your cursor hand. As soon as she stops speaking, click it on her to disable the Nether Mask. She is much easier to kill in her human form. Use Guardians and Mist of Doom spells to kill her. - o -
