@~And here is the second Amazon Queen solution, from Roy. Flight of the Amazon Queen - Part 2 A solution by Roy Sims Played on the IBM PC (but also valid for the Amiga) (1) Theatre of Traps Trapped in a cheap theatre in downtown Rio, your first task is to escape and stop Anderson before he flies off with Faye Russel. Have a good look around the room. The only items of interest at the moment are the two sheets that lie on the floor near the radiator. However, you might as well pull (use) the curtain cord and take the wig that is revealed behind the curtain whilst you are here. Now take both sheets and tie them together. Now use them on the radiator. You now have a way of escaping down the laundry chute, so use it to drop down into the next location. (You can try knocking on the window to get the attention of your friend Sparky outside, but he won't see or hear you so there's no real point). Move the ladder then climb up and take a crowbar from the box on top, then swipe a pair of comedy breasts and climb back down the ladder. The right hand red door (with the star) is locked. Try leaving via the left hand door instead. You will end up in the foyer of the Hotel. The two hoodlums, Rico and Eddy are standing by the entrance so there's no escape that way. Have a look at the key on the reception desk. It belongs to Lola. Talk to the Bellboy and persuade him that you are Lola's friend and that she asked you to get her key. Thankfully the bellboy is gullible and he allows you to take it. Now go back down the stairs you came up and unlock the red door with the key. Now enter the room. Lola isn't very pleased to see you. Tell her you need her help to escape from the Theatre. She will eventually agree to help you, if you get her a towel so she can dry off after her shower. Nip back up the laundry chute and use the crowbar on the chest by the curtains. Inside it you will find a towel. Return to Lola's dressing room and give her the towel. In return she gives you a red dress and asks you to leave. You now have all that you need to get past the hoodlums. Wear the dress, the comedy breasts and the wig. Now walk back up the stairs that lead to the foyer. A cut scene will now introduce you to the crazed plans of Dr. Ironstein and his Dino Ray experiments. Back in the Theatre, just walk past Rico and Eddy and head for the truck which is outside. Once the truck has started moving off, Rico will realise what's happened and they will give chase. Pick up the hay in the back of Sparky's truck to find a can of oil. Now use this on Rico's car which is gradually catching up with you. The oil spill will force them off the road and allow you to reach Anderson and your 'plane before he takes off. An argument will start between you and Anderson as Faye watches on. Trade insults for a while and you will end up knocking Anderson out with just one punch. Sparky will then urge you to hurry as a storm is brewing. (2) Amazonian Crash Later on, the Amazon Queen is struck by lightning over the Amazonian Jungle and plummets into a lake below. Faye Russel isn't too pleased about this turn of events. Water is pouring into the 'plane at an alarming rate. Open the duffle bag on the floor and look inside it to find a knife and a lighter. Also look at the seats and you will find a soggy coupon from one of Sparky's treasured "Commander Rocket" comics. Open the hatch then walk through it. You will see some piranha fish leaping about in the water outside the boat. Go back inside the 'plane and talk to Sparky. When you can ask him about supplies and he will offer you some beef jerky. Accept some then return back outside. Step onto the giant lilypad, then give the jerky to the fish. They will eat the beef and leave you alone. It's now safe to pick up the propeller that is floating in the water nearby. Try using the propeller as an oar on the lilypad. You will find it is attached to a stem under the water, so use the knife to cut it first. Now use the propeller as an oar to row you, Sparky and Faye to the river bank nearby. You will tell both of them to stay by the bank whilst you go for help. Sparky will ask you to get him a replacement comic book. Now walk down the screen along the path until you reach the broken rope bridge which spans the rapids. A banana tree is on the other side, but you can't get to it right now. You can't do much here at the moment, so turn round and head back, this time going up the screen when you are back with Sparky and Faye. You are now on a new jungle path. A parrot will start talking to you, repeating a message about someone being held captive. The bird also mentions Trader Bob. He will eventually fly off into the Jungle. There's also a swinging vine here, so use your knife to cut it down. Now return to the rope bridge and use the vine on the support rope to repair it. Now you can take that banana. It could prove to be useful later on. Now continue your exploration of the jungle, following the path where you saw the parrot. You will now encounter a Gorilla. If you try and head for the Pinnacle in the distance, the Gorilla will stop you. Don't waste the banana on the Gorilla. Instead, try talking to him. Eventually, you should start asking him about how a gorilla can be in the Amazon Jungle when they originate in Africa. This will confuse the Gorilla and he will disappear in a puff of logic. Now proceed up to the Pinnacle. A cut scene will show Faye getting very annoyed and storming off into the jungle on her own, (but only after she throws a bottle of perfume into the water in a tantrum). (You will return to the Pinnacle quite a few times throughout your adventure. From here you can see a number of locations. You can make the quick trip simply by pointing at the location and choosing it as your next destination). From up on the Pinnacle you can see a place named Trader Bob's. Since the parrot mentioned this, it seems logical to go there first. When you arrive you can ignore the tall pygmy and head straight for Trader Bob's shop which is on the other side of the village. The Hair Hunter and Witch Doctor don't speak english, and you can't speak in their tongue at the moment, so it's best if you leave them alone for now. Inside Trader Bob's you will see the parrot again, and meet Trader Bob and his assistant, Naomi. After a brief conversation about the parrot's message, Bob will ask you to help him find Princess Azura. You should agree to help. Bob will then tell you all about Floda, the Lederhosen Company and his suspicions that they are behind the kidnapping. Take this opportunity to talk to Naomi, and she will tell you about the missionaries in the jungle. Before you leave, give the remainder of your beef jerky to Trader Bob (you did notice the empty Beef Jerky jar on the counter didn't you?). He will give some money for it. Now talk again to Naomi. If you didn't ask before, talk about the hair dresser out front. Eventually she will mention she is nervous about a date out with Bob tonight. You now have a small quest to find Naomi a bottle of perfume. In return she will give you a pair of scissors. Asking her about the vacuum cleaner will also give you some handy hints for a later use for the device. As you've probably guessed by now, you need to talk back and forth between these two characters quite a lot to glean useful information and a few small quests. If you talk to Bob about Naomi, he will mention the fact that he needs flowers for his date tonight. If you ask him generally about the things he sells, he will mention something about 'special' customers. Learn more about this as you need to be in Bob's good books later on. The visit to Trader Bob has given you lots of things to do. You need to find some perfume, some flowers, and you need to visit Floda at some point to look for the Princess. Try going back to the crash site (via the Pinnacle). En route you should witness another cut scene, showing the evil Professor asking for a progress report on the search for the Crystal Skull, which will allow him into the Valley of Mists. Anyway, when you get back to the crash site, try getting the perfume bottle out of the water. You don't fancy putting your arm in the water in case the piranhas are hungry again. You need something to get them out with. Didn't Trader Bob have some nets? Unfortunately, they are only given to his 'special' customers, so we need to find his flowers first. Ask Sparky where Faye has gone. Now let's go exploring. Go to the Pinnacle and walk to the jungle area. Now walk right, ignoring the "Salvashun" sign for now. You will come to a waterfall. A fish is going crazy trying to catch a colourful flying beetle which is flying above the water, just out of its reach. Unfortunately, you can't grab it either at the moment, so just walk on to the right. You will now encounter the Gorilla for a second time, except this time he's dressed up in an obviously fake pink and blue spotted dinosaur outfit! Again it's very easy to get rid of him. Just mentioning he doesn't exist should do the trick. Before you walk through the hollow log he was guarding, go down instead to meet the Missionaries. @~To be continued in Issue 39 - o -
