Menzoberranzan (Part 1) Solution by Alex van Kaam This solution is played with a Human Paladin and a Human Mage. I have tried to include every item found on each level but I'm not perfect so I'm sorry if some may have slipped through. -----> Stage 1, Tavern interior NPC: Innkeeper Monsters: None Items: None Talk to the Innkeeper, after this chat leave the tavern. -----> Stage 1, Village exterior NPC: Baldassar Monsters: Drow fighters Items: 20 Buckets, Ivory scroll case, Padded armor, 2 Spears, Quarter staff, Scroll of Light, Shield and a Dagger Make sure you get at least 9 buckets of water, you can fill them at the well in the middle of the town, then go to the south/east and use the buckets on the fire, once all the fires are out make sure you get the ivory scroll case, you need as much storage room as possible later on in the game, and go to the guardhouse just north of the building you just saved from the fire, talk to Baldassar. Ask him if the Drow attacked the village and he will tell you about Vermulean who lives outside the village, then ask him to join you. Now enter the building he was standing in front of. -----> Stage 1, Guardhouse interior NPC: None Monsters: None Items: Mace, Battle axe, Shield, Leather armor, Spear, Throwing knife, Quiver and a Composite bow. Grab the items you think you can use, leave the Guardhouse and go to the tavern, talk to the innkeeper, he will give you a helm, now whatever you do, don't drop it, keep it with you through out the whole game. Now leave the tavern and leave the city through the east exit. -----> Stage 1, Woods outside village NPC: Maeldithar Monsters: Gnolls and Bug bears Items: 4 Stones, Crossbow, Sack with 6 Crossbow bolts and Keoghtom's ointment, Halberd, Lockpicks and Scrolls of Magic Missile, Cause Light Wounds, Chill Touch, Shield and Comprehend Languages. As soon as you enter this area you will see a trail of blood, so go south and you will soon reach a Gnoll, try talking to him, he will attack you so kill him, continue south until you can't go any further, now head east and you will soon spot a Drow, talk to him and you will learn that they were after Drizzt, they want to offer him to Lolth. Continue south and you will find a Scroll of Comprehend Languages, don't write it in your mage's book, keep it in your scroll case or let your mage cast it. Keep going south and you will meet Maeldithar, a centaur, let him join you and go north, you will soon see Vermulean's house, east of it is a Bug Bear with whom you can talk, he still wants to kill you so you better kill him, make sure you have the sack, what you do with its contents is your business, because you need all the space you can get later on, now enter the house. -----> Stage 1, Vermulean's cottage NPC: Vermulean Monsters: None Items: Vermulean's parchment and Scrolls of Hold Person and Armor Get the parchment and read the story of the Drow, then talk to Vermulean, he will tell you that Drizzt roams these parts and he will also tell you that he can enchant gems so that one who holds such a gem will not be affected by the radiance of the Underdark. Then of course tell him that you don't have any gems, he will then tell you that some caravans have been ambushed to the east and that the robbers should have some gems. Leave his house and go east. -----> Stage 2, Icewind dale plains 1 NPC: Drizzt Monsters: Verbeegs and Gnolls Items: Ring mail, Ring of Feather Fall, Potion of Giant's Strength, Broadsword, Sack with 5 coins a potion of healing and a potion of fire resistance, Warhammer, a key ring and scrolls of Protection from Evil, Detect Magic, Shield, Flame Blade and Immunity to Adherence. To the south you will see a Verbeeg, talk to him and he will tell you about a cave to the south, continue east until you're halfway, then go south, you will soon see Drizzt, let him join you and send Maeldithar home. Go back north, kill the Gnolls in the north/west and get the key ring, now go east and you will soon find a cave entrance, go in. @~More in Issue 40 - o -
