Raise the Titanic - on Disk 833 (3D Construction Kit Game for Amiga) Reviewed by Bill Commons The game starts by a ship appearing at the bottom of the screen and slowly it gets closer and a message says "Contact sea bed, depth 2 miles, sub activated". You then have to use the keyboard, mouse or joystick to enter a hole in the side of the ship. There are fourteen controls on the screen and they can be a bit awkward to manipulate. The usual forward and back, right and left arrows seemed to go in other directions at times depending on which way you are facing. In addition there are turn right or left arrows and rotate clockwise and anticlock. Six more buttons are marked R, L, up arrow and down arrow. Of the final two one seemed to shake the screen and the other was the best of all, it put me back on even keel, until I found this I was all over the place, as the ceiling looks the same as the floor and I was not sure which way up I was. The idea of the game is to travel through various rooms and corridors finding tools and keys plus switches that are hidden in unlikely places. No wonder it sunk! The task is to locate five anti-grav floats, discover the code to light all the lights on these and when all five are activated the ship will rise to the surface. There is also a time limit which is made by completing it before the oxygen supply runs out. The game was created by using the 3D Construction Kit, which is very blocky graphics and most of the objects are depicted by cubes and rectangles. The colours are a bit off as well, mostly drab orange greens and blues. At first this annoyed me and I kept switching the game off. The keyboard keys 1 and 2 state, save game or restore game when pressed but whatever I pressed after that an error message came up. So each time I had to start again. Once I got into it though I forgot the graphics and colours and became engrossed in solving the many puzzles. When these are known the game can be completed in about an hour so there is no need to save the game. It made a pleasant change from monster bashing and I enjoyed it. - o -
