VOYEUR - Interplay RRP œ39.99 (18 cert game on CD-ROM) Reviewed by Dave Stone Could this game really be as bad as the the reviews in the PC magazines made out? Assuming the 'Doom Crazed' reviewers could not cope with anything other than mindless violence, I borrowed a copy and determined to find out. The Plot You are watching the house of a wealthy American Presidential Candidate with a number of dark secrets. Three members of his family can be bought off, but the fourth threatens to expose him. You are equipped with a video camera and must either record the incriminating evidence, or the actual murder of the family blackmailer. The murdered individual varies randomly, providing eight possible scenarios. The Naughty Bits The game is promoted as an Adult title with an 18 rating, it includes short video scenes of ladies in their underwear, aimed at distracting attention from the political action elsewhere. (They are hardly a justification for spending œ40 on a game - so on to the gameplay). Whats Wrong with The Game ? (i) After intensive play I only uncovered three plotters - the daughter always seemed to be easily bought off. (ii) Each scenario took about an hour of real time, but the first 45 minutes were always identical. Determined to unravel the mysteries of each plot, and keen to avoid boredom, I found it best to leave the game running and return for the last 10 mins to discover the potential victim. Yes this is indeed as bad as the reviews indicated, repetitive, tedious and far, far, too easy. (Astonishingly a best seller on the CDI machine). Probably three hours entertainment, three hours tedium then the bin. The genre is covered far better within the range of Detective style text adventures. Tech Note: On a 4mb 386 DX40 - Installation easy, but occasional 'hangs'. - o -
