@~Now the final part of the second Amazon Queen solution, from @~Roy ... erm, I mean Richard Flight of the Amazon Queen - Part 3 A solution by Roy Sims aka Richard Hewison Played on the IBM PC (but also valid for the Amiga) @~Continued from Issue 39 (10) The Mysterious Sloth Island You are dropped off by the shore next to the temple entrance. Walk inside. There are a few things to note in the entrance. There's a weird looking statue with coloured lights, two sockets and a slot. The front facing wall also has a number of holes where it looks like bones should go to make a complete skeleton. There are also doors to the left and the right, as well as the exit back outside immediately behind you. Head for the left door (not that it really matters) first. In this next area, move each mummified body in turn to get the following items - rib cage, leg bone. Then go through the left door and do the same in here to get the other items - skull (unfortunately NOT the Crystal One), and an arm bone. The little Dino Rat is also here (how he got across the lake is anyone's guess). Return to the entrance room and use the leg bone, skull and rib cage in the appropriate holes to complete the skeleton. Now, place the arm bone in the socket on the weird statue nearby. If you move the arm now, the statue will flash its lights but nothing else will happen. Try putting a coin from your money stash in the slot first, then move the arm. You will hit the jackpot and the skeleton wall will slide downwards to reveal a secret passage! Before you explore the passage, go back to the Dino Rat and give him some Cheeze Bitz (TM). He will run off, but he will prove to be useful later on. Now return to the secret passage and walk through. You will drop down into an enormous chamber with a massive construction that looks like a head with two arms extending out, one from each side. As you get up, a ghostly apparition (The Temple Guardian) will materialise and ask you a riddle: "What uses 2 legs at Dawn, four at Noon, and three at Dusk?". The initial answers you can choose from are actually all wrong, but you have to go through them before the correct (and obvious) answer is offered ("Man in his three stages of Life"). Once you have given the correct answer you can briefly talk to the Guardian before she leaves. As she does so, the enormous statue opens three exits - in the mouth, and one each in the hands. Now it's time to explore. The left hand door (geddit?) leads you to a door guarded by a huge white snake, so you will have to return here later. The Mouth door leads you through a room with a stone spindle on your level and a pulley and stone slab on the level below. You can also walk through to a green cave with a hole and a stalactite. Again, you can't do much in here for now, so back out. The right hand door leads you through the lower level with the pulley and the stone slab (which blocks the right hand exit). A door leads you to a walkway. You will see a uniformed man rush off ahead of you. Walk along the path to reach a room with three zombie women and a dead body. You can look at the body but you won't gain anything. Talk to the Zombie woman dressed in green. Ask her who they are and what they are doing. She will explain that they are waiting to enter the after-life with their Prince who is inside the sarcophagus behind them. You need to see the inside of this sarcophagus, so argue and persuade the zombie to prove to you that their Prince is still inside and hasn't 'departed' without them. Eventually she will do this. A body wrapped up in bandages is indeed inside, but as they close the lid again, the end of the wrapping falls out and rolls along the floor towards you. Pick it up and you will continue to pull it until you have quite a large bundle. Ask the same zombie woman to open up the sarcophagus once again. You will have to admit to unravelling the wrapping bandages. When they open it up, the Prince has indeed gone. The zombies aren't too happy about this, and disappear. Now you can look more closely at the Sarcophagus. Look inside the sarcophagus to find the Prince's crown. It looks quite valuable. Now examine the vine. Use your knife to cut some of the gnarled vine free. Now close the sarcophagus and move it to reveal a new exit. Walk through. You will now drop down into a new area with giant tree roots. (11) The Pulley System Examine the tree sap, then cut it with your knife and take some. Now walk to the left and move the fountain head which is gushing water. This will reveal a blue jewel which you should also take. Keep walking left and you will see a lever set in a stone, and a door. Leave the lever for the moment and go through the door instead. You find yourself on a walkway which is above a room. This room has a man suspended in an orb shaped metal cage, suspended over a pit of fire. It's the same man you saw earlier. He's trapped and he wants you to rescue him. He says he's got the Crystal Skull, but you shouldn't believe him. By all means talk to him though. When you've run out of things to say, walk left. You are now in a curious location which is split into two. The upper part shows an area above the level you are currently on. You can see a way out of the temple, but a beam of blue shimmering light blocks the way. On your level is a statue which holds a mug, a stone disc, and seems to be smoking. You need the stone disc, but if you try and take it the hot plate burns your hand. What you need is a glove, so use the glove puppet on the disc to take it safely (although you will lose the puppet as a result). Now we want to return to the room where we saw the spindle and the pulley. Walk back to the right until you reach the lever set in the stone, then use it. You will be blown upwards, landing back at the giant statue. Go through the middle (mouth) door. Use the disc on the spindle, then use the gnarled vine on the disc. Now walk back through the door you came in and then use the right hand door so you can reach the pulley. Use the loose vines on the pulley. You should notice a small hole on the pulley. To be able to get the pulley to work, you need to use your trusty baseball bat on the pulley. This will then raise the stone slab and let you go right. In the cavern here you will find a pick. You can also see another stone slab on the right but you can't gain access to that part yet (it actually leads into the chamber containing the man in the cage). Take the pick and walk back to the left and use the baseball bat again to lower the slab (this is important). Now leave here and go through the middle (mouth) door again. Go through the next door to enter the green cave. Now use the pick on the hole. This will open it up and allow you to go left. You are now in a room with a crypt. Across a chasm you can see a green jewel but you can't get it from here. The crypt is sealed shut, and you don't have anything on you that has sufficient leverage to do the job right now. Don't worry, come back here later. On the way out, use the pick on the stalactite to get a flint. Now use this on your lighter to get it working. (12) Another Rescue Return to the giant statue again, and take the left hand door which leads you to the white snake. Use the mummy wrappings on the arm bone to produce a makeshift torch. Now use the lighter on the torch and finally use the lit torch on the snake to scare it off (makes a change from releasing a bird in a cage doesn't it?). Anyway, go through the door here and you will walk into a room with a waterfall and three exits (including the one you just came through). Take the far back (lit) door first. You are now in the right hand side of the location you saw earlier when you found the pick. The stone slab is now raised (because you lowered the other one after you came back out earlier). Go right. You are now in the chamber with the man (Ian) trapped in a cage over the glowing pit. Talk to him if you want, but to rescue him you need to pull the lever in the room. Nothing happens. Talk to Ian again and ask him to untie the tethering rope underneath the cage. When he's done it, pull the lever again. Ian will now be free. However, he doesn't play to the rules and leaves without you. Leave this room by walking left then take the new door on your level which is next to the stairs. You are now in a new location. Two statues with four highly polished mirrors stand guard over a set of doors. Laser light bounces between the mirrors. You haven't got the necessary items yet to defeat this security device, so ignore it for now and go left. Another cut scene is triggered showing the Professor, his Zeppelin, and Anderson's realisation that the Professor is insane (what took him so long?). You walk into a new location with a statue flanked by two waterfalls. As you enter you also hear a strange crunching sound then a scream (I wonder who that could be?). Have a look at the statue and you will see that there are two eyes and that each one has an indentation beneath it. Use the blue jewel on the right hand indentation (which is beneath the statue's left eye). It fits perfectly! You still don't have one for the other eye yet, but you should know where it is. Anyway, there's also a useful big stick stuck in a rock nearby here, so pull it out. You've now got the leverage you need to open the Crypt, but we're going back via a different route. Go back to the lasers and go up the slope. You will walk out on a balcony. Keep going and you will find yourself on a slope by a body which you probably saw ages ago when you first explored the other side of this location. Look at the body and take the ID card and the strange piece of stone that it contains. Now continue up the slope and you will be back in the original waterfall room you found a while ago. Find the exit that takes you back to where the white snake used to be. Now make your way back to the Crypt. Use the big stick to open the Crypt. This will destroy both the stick and the Crypt lid, but don't worry about it. You will take the ceremonial mask found inside the Crypt. Now we can return to those statues with the mirrors and the lasers. You should know the route back. When you are back there, you must first clean up the mask. Use the remainder of the mummy wrappings on it. Now use the mask on the mirrors to destroy the laser barrier. Walk past the two statues and you will end up on the other side of the Crypt room. A green jewel lies just out of reach below ground level on the edge of the chasm. To pick it up, you must use some of the tree sap on the end of your baseball bat. Now use the bat on the jewel. Take this back to the statue flanked by the two waterfalls, and place it in the left hand indentation (below the statue's right eye). The face will rotate to show a smiling face, and the water will subside to reveal no less than two new passageways. The left one will show you Ian's demise on the level above where you got the stone disc. To look at his pulverised body, you must go back down to the lower level. You need to do this before going through the new right hand passageway, as he has something on him which you need. On the way to the body, take some more of the tree sap as you will need it. Back at the pulverised body, look at it to find another strange stone. Now use the sap to bind your two strange stones together into one stone key. Now head back to the right hand passageway that you haven't explored yet. Go through this and you will walk into the large stone room that you have seen before from the balcony above. In this room is a stone statue on a slab. Use the key on the statue to reveal some stairs leading downwards. (13) The Crystal Skull Go down the steps. Walk across the bridge which spans the weird green stuff. You are now in a maze of sorts. Fortunately, help should be at hand. As long as you fed the Dino Rat some Cheeze Bitz (TM) earlier, he should be here. If you give him some more, he will lead you through the maze. Each time you give him some, he will scamper off and you should follow him. (NB - If the Dino Rat isn't here, you might not be able to finish, because you can try and follow the route that the Rat would take, but without it him being present, it might not work!) First Room Next Room Next Room Next Room __|__|__* __|__|__ __|__|__ *__|__|__ --|--|-- --|--|-- --|--|--* --|--|-- * You will eventually enter a new chamber which confirms that you are now deep enough down in the temple to be under the river. In the middle of this room is what looks like a throne of some kind, but with loose wall panels on either side. Leave this for now. Go through the right door instead. You see a mosaic on the wall and another on the floor in front of it. Somehow you need to solve this puzzle to open a new exit on the other side of the room. The mosaic is a grid of 4 x 4, so imagine the vertical axis is labelled A to D down the side, and the horizontal is 1 to 4 along the top, like this: 1 2 3 4 a b c d To solve the puzzle you must move the symbols on the wall. Each time you do this, they will re-arrange themselves. The puzzle looks hard, but it's actually very easy. Just move d2, then c3 and the door will open. Go through the new door. (To actually work out the logic of WHY this works, use the vacuum cleaner on the floor mosaic then look at the symbols. The two that you have to move are NOT found on those shown on the wall when the symbols re-arrange themselves) The Temple Guardian will appear again in the next location, and ask you for the key to your lineage. Say you are the prince, then give her the crown you got from the Prince's sarcophagus earlier. She will now let you take the skull. A section of the wall will slide up to reveal the Crystal Skull. Take it. As you do, the power will go off. Return to the previous room. Now move each wall panel and a chair will be lowered from the ceiling. Use the chair and you will be shot out of the temple and back onto the shore, where a waiting guard will take you back at gun point to the Floda prison cell. Professor Ironstein will then appear and (like all decent bad guys) he will explain to you what his devious plan is if you ask him nicely. Once he has left you, take the chipped mug in your cell. Now read the comic book if you haven't already. It may give you an idea for later. A torn page will also fall out. Use this with the soggy coupon from Sparky's comic and you will have a set of rocket pack blueprints! Use the chipped mug on the cell door to make some noise. Moments later, Faye and Anderson will arrive to rescue you! After a bit of chatter, Faye will find a disintegrator gun and use it to destroy the cell door. She and Anderson then leave for the Zeppelin, so suspicions are not aroused. (14) Valley of the Mists Make your way out of Floda. You have the rocket pack and the blueprints, but what you don't have is some fuel. The Commander Rocket comic should have given you a clue, so it's time to go back to Trader Bob's once again. Pick up the alcohol off the shelf. Bob won't let you buy it unless you have the ID card from the body on the island. Once you have this, use the alcohol on the rocket pack. If you try and use the rocket now, you won't be able to. You need a nice high vantage point to make a vertical take off. Walk back to the Pinnacle. When you reach the top, use the rocket pack. You will eventually wake up lying close to a large dinosaur! Faye will walk in and explain that the Professor doesn't know you are here, so you have the element of surprise on your side. She then leaves before they notice her missing. Go right. A long necked dinosaur (Brontosaurus?) is blocking the left exit. Walk towards the distant clearing. You are now at the head end of the dinosaur. Keep going forward until you reach some branches. Cut some off with your knife then use them to entice the dinosaur to move forwards. Now you can go left. You will find two small dinosaurs picking over the remains of an animal. They will then run off as a slightly bigger dinosaur runs into view. You need to scare this creature off before you can move on, so use the Tyranno horn given to you by Princess Azura. This will do the trick. Now move to the right. You will walk in on Professor Einstein and his prisoners. He will force you to activate an ancient robot. Eventually a giant dino version of the Professor has to fight a giant version of the robot, and whilst they slug it out, you must ensure that the Professor loses! Faye, Sparky and Azura are all here. Shoot the dino-gun at the Professor and he will deflect the ray and turn Faye into a dinosaur! Shoot her with the gun to turn her back to normal, then talk to Faye and ask her to turn her mirror round. When she has done this, shoot the Professor again. This time, the ray will deflect off the mirror and hit Sparky. Shoot Sparky to turn him back to normal. Now give him the ceremonial mask. Shoot the Professor again. This time the chain reaction of deflections will bounce off a number of items before hitting the Professor again, this time destroying him. As for the very end...well that would be telling! - o -
