Menzoberranzan (Part 2) Solution by Alex van Kaam @~Continued from Issue 39 -----> Stage 2, Leucrottas' lair NPC: None Monsters: Leucrottas Items: 2 Potions of jump, Helm of Disguise, 2 Potions of healing, Ring of protection, Scroll of burning hands, 4 gems. This is a fairly straight level, use the jump potion to get through the holes that are high up in the wall, you can recognise them by the 3 rock pillars that are in front of them. Get the 4 gems and make your way back to Vermulean, he will enchant the gems and tell you about a fountain in the dwarven mine. Leave him and go to the place where you met Drizzt, go south. -----> Stage 2, Icewind Dale plains 2 NPC: Vonar Monsters: Striges and Troglodytes Items: Sling, Sling pouch, Composite bow, Javelin of lightning, Potion of extra healing, Long sword, 2 Handed sword and Scrolls of Cure light wounds, Bless, Detect evil, Faerie fire, Protection from evil, Melf's acid arrow, Improved identify, Feather fall and Dispel magic. Let Vonar, who is to the east, join you and take the place of Baldassar. Take all the items you need and go down the mine shaft in the south, remember though that there is no way back up the shaft, only down. -----> Stage 3, Descent into Underdark - 1 NPC: Manahath Monsters: Osquips, Cloaker lords, Drow fighters and Gnolls Items: Potion of fiery burning, Map of location, 2 Potions of flying and Scrolls of Slow poison, Passweb, Blur, Hold person, Invisibility 10 foot, Comprehend languages and Spook. Manahath, who is located in the middle of these caves, has a map of locations, ask him for it and he will give it to you, this map will give you an extra button on your map screen, use it to see how far you are from Menzoberranzan. In the south/west is a walk-through wall, it is of no real use since you don't enter a secret area, but near this wall are some stairs leading down. Notice that the west side of your map isn't finished, you will re-enter this level later on and fill in the west part. -----> Stage 3, Descent into Underdark - 2 NPC: None Monsters: Gnolls and Leucrottas Items: 2 Potions of passweb, Potion of extra heal, Potion of fly, Potion of levitation, Javelin of lightning and Scrolls of Passweb and Shocking grasp. To the north/west from where you begin you will find a walk-through wall, again this one doesn't lead to the secret area, it is just a short cut. More to the north you will find a spider's web, use one of your passweb scrolls or potion to get through. A bit south/west of this web is another walk through wall, it leads to a secret area but there are no items here. Behind this web you will find some stairs leading back up. Again notice that here also the west part of your map will be incomplete. -----> Stage 3, Descent into Underdark - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Gnolls and Drow fighters Items: Piwafwi cloak, Sling of seeking, Spear, Pick axe, a Potion of flying and 2 scrolls of true seeing. You will now be able so finish this map, near the south edge is yet another walk through wall, behind this wall you will find some stairs going down. Before going down don't forget to get the pick axe. -----> Stage 3, Descent into Underdark - 2 NPC: Borenorak Monsters: Troglodytes, Ochre jellies, Drow fighters, Drow priestesses Items: Admantite chain mail, Mace, Shield, Potion of passweb and Scrolls of Protection from evil, Passweb and Venom immunity. Again you will not be able to complete this map, from your start you can go north until you come to two walk through walls, the west one will lead to a small area with a scroll whilst the second wall will lead you to another spider's web. Go through it and you will soon come to a mad dwarf called Borenorak, let him join you instead of Vonar. In the n/w corner you will find an exit, go through. -----> Stage 4, Underground lake NPC: None Monsters: Aboleth Items: Gold plate helmet and Elf ghost plate mail As soon as you enter you will see a girl, Borenorak tells you to rescue the girl, approach and you will see that the girl was an illusion made by an aboleth, kill the aboleth and Borenorak will be free from his madness, now he only needs the healing of the legendary fountain. Follow this rock path and go through the exit at the end. Looking at your map you will see that this area is much bigger than the path you just walked, however I did not find a way to explore the rest. -----> Stage 3, Descent into Underdark - 2 NPC: None Monsters: Ochre jellies, Troglodytes Items: Scimitar, Keoghtom's ointment, Potion of extra healing, 2 Potions of passweb and the Scrolls of Spiritual hammer and Darkness Yes now you will be able to finish this map, keep going south and you will soon see another spider's web, go through and go down the exit. -----> Stage 5, Dwarven mines NPC: None Monsters: Derro dwarves, Hook horrors and a Yochol Items: Quiver, Potion of extra healing, Potion of speed, Wand of paralysation, Bag of holding, Sling, Cloak of protection, Short sword, Shield of lightning protection, Longsword, Mace, White candle, Piwafwi cloak and the Scrolls of Flame blade, Backlash, Dispel magic, Fly, Raise dead and Stone skin This is a fairly straight level of corridors and rooms, doors can be opened by pull chains or buttons, there are three walk through walls, one north/west, one north/east and one north/east from where you begin. On this walk through wall is some text written, use the language scroll to read this text. You will also encounter a young girl, don't let her join, she is a Yochol send by Lolth so be ready to defend yourself. The exit from this level can be found in the north, there are two exits but they both lead to the same spot. Also note that the north/west corner of your map will stay blank for now. -----> Stage 6, Temple of Dumathoin - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Night hunters, Derro dwarves and Derro dwarves savants Items: 2 Short swords, Battle axe, Pick axe, Broadsword, Crossbow 2 War hammers, Dagger, Scale helmet, Figurine, Shield, 2 Torches, Chain helmet, Holy symbol of Dumathoin, Chain mail, 2 Buckets, Silver moon key, Star key, Parchment, 2 Dwarven books and the Scrolls of Cloudkill, Free action, Cure light wounds, Protection from evil and Fortify. Again a fairly easy level, in the north/east you will come to a room with the Silver moon key on the floor, get this key and you will see a conversation in the room north of you. Use this key to get to this room, kill Savant and read the Dwarven books using your second language scroll and get the Star key. North of this room you will encounter a spinner, once through it you will find a walk through wall, behind it you will find a button, push it and leave, now go west and you will find another walk through wall, behind this wall you will find the Holy symbol of Dumathoin, take it. Once you explored the whole level use the Star key on the door in the north/west and climb down the stairs. Again note that this time the south/east corner will stay blank. -----> Stage 7, Temple of Dumathoin - 2 NPC: Vlakverdling Monsters: Derro dwarves, Derro dwarves savants and Umber hulks Items: Yellow candle, Banded mail, 2 Shields, Warhammer, Sling, Sling pouch, Gauntlets of giant strength, Silver circle key, Figurine, White robe, Dwarven horn, Chain mail, Battle axe, Chalice, Potion of giant strength, Potion of extra heal and the Scrolls of Harm, Lich touch, Light and Cause critical wounds. First find the silver circle key in the south/east, in this area you will also find a prisoner, leave him for now, don't talk to him just leave him. In the north/east corner is a room with a key hole in the north wall, use your silver circle key in this key hole and a wall will vanish, behind this wall is a transporter, step on it and you will be transported a bit west into a long corridor, push the button in the north wall and go west. You will now find the dwarven horn, get it and step into the transporter in the west corner, you will now be transported to the south/west, in this corner is a statue with a chalice, blow the horn and the chalice is yours. After exploring the rest of this level go to the exit in the south/east, you can reach it by using the long corridor that starts in the room where you got the chalice. @~To be continued next issue - o -
