--------> World of Xeen <-------- (Part 1) Solution by Alex van Kaam Note: This solution follows on from the Darkside of Xeen one, as in Darkside of Xeen not all the sub-quests will be played but you will be able to finish the game this way. To get more out of the game however I recommend you also play all the sub-quests that you encounter now and after this solution. ------------------------------------------------------------------ After his congratulations the Dragon Pharaoh told us that we could now fulfil the prophecy, to do so we had to go on the next four quests 1- We first had to turn on the machines on the four corners of the Cloud side of the world 2- We then had to awaken the four elemental sleepers on the Darkside of the world 3- Next we had to open the way to the Cloud world above Darkstone Tower, on the Cloud side of the world 4- And last we had to free Prince Roland from the dungeon of Sheltem, so he and Queen Kalindra can get married on top of the Darkstone Tower. This was a long list so we left the Pharaoh immediately and we headed to the transportation pyramid in Castleview, but before we reached it Gothmog reminded us that we also could go to the land of Shangri-La and from there into the Cloud side. We all thought this was a good idea so we headed to Castle Alamar, into the dungeon and down into...... ------> Shangri-La, a peaceful but very boring place <------ Shangri-La wasn't very big, it had a guild, a tavern, a weapon shop and a temple, we visited them all but we found nothing of interest. We did however encounter a lot of interesting people, most of them had some tips and hints for us, we knew most of them but the one that Alexander the Brave told us we didn't, he said to us that the sphinx was called 'Golux', we wrote it down and we continued exploring this place. We met Jack Alltrades, he offered to teach us all the trades that there were for 100.000 Gp., since we all knew about 15 trades we didn't accept his offer. Well, that was about it, we left Shangri-La through the south exit and this led to....... ------> Volcano Cave, level 3, Demons and Devils <------ Well, when we entered we were attacked by a Demon, he looked very scary but one good blow to his head, there wasn't more of him, and dead he was. There was only one route so we followed it, killing some more Demons and Devils until we came to some stairs leading up to.... ------> Volcano Cave, level 2, This was great fun <------ We sure had a good time on this level, with our levels being 70+ we could kill those Demons and Devils like they were mice. We explored the whole level and we soon found four levers and some stairs leading up, pulling the levers removed some lava areas but since we already passed these areas they were of no use to us so we took the stairs and we headed into...... ------> Volcano Cave, level 1, Whoooo, look at them run <------ Again we had a great time, this was like a picnic, we killed and killed, it was a bit sad for those Demons and Devils, but hey, they attacked first. Anyway, we again explored or better cleaned the whole level and we found some chests, one of them contained 90.000 Gp. and 666 gems while the other chests just exploded. We also found two devil skulls, smashing these gained us 250.000 Exp. points and a good feeling. In the end we found some stairs leading up to the outside world, the lava section to be precise. Since our first task was to turn on all the machines on the corners of this world we headed straight to the north/east corner. After killing some Great Hydras, Acid Dragons and Lava Golems we reached the north\east corner of this side of the world, we didn't see any machines but Rak*el did spot a piece of land in the distance. The only way we could reach it was casting a transport spell, it took a while but we soon found the best spot to jump and Roodhaar cast her transport spell to take us to this piece of floating land. Once there we saw a sign and a machine, on the sign it said 'Fire Corner', the machine was some kind of reflector, we turned it on and Roodhaar transported us back to the mainland. That was one, we headed west, passing another cave entrance until we came to a mountain range, here we encountered some Gargoyles that were defending a chest, after killing them Rak*el opened it and we found the Scarab of Imaging, we took it and we continued west into the desert. After killing a lot of Sand Worms, Sand Golems and Giant Scorpions we reached the north/west corner of this side, again we spotted a floating piece of land with a sign and a machine on it. On the sign it said 'Air Corner', we turned on the machine and we headed back to the mainland. Once there we headed south, through another mountain range, killing some Barbarians, and pass the city of Winterkill, we agreed that after this mission we would come back and explore it. We continued south, killing some Snowbeasts and Cyclops until we reached the south/west corner of this world. Again Roodhaar transported us to the piece of floating land, on the sign it said 'Water Corner', we turned on the reflector and we headed back to the main land. Next we headed west until we reached, without any problems, the south/east corner, here we found a sign saying 'Earth Corner' and the fourth machine, we turned it on and we headed back to the main land. Well, so much for the first part, now onto the second, we headed to Vertigo and we entered the transportation pyramid, this brought us to Castleview. We now had to find the Elemental Sleepers, since the four machines on the Cloud side we on each corner we headed to the south/west corner of this side of the world. But we couldn't find any piece of floating land or an Elemental Sleeper. What to do next, after a lot of suggestions Gandalf came up with the idea of checking out the sky road, since none of us had any better ideas we all agreed and we headed to the Dark Grove. Here we climbed the stairs that led up to the sky road, once there we headed south and west and south again until we came to a sign saying 'Water Zone', we continued south and we soon found a small area of water, when we stepped on it a voice asked us 'Who do you seek ?', we answered 'Water' and we were transported to a large area of water. Here we encountered some Tidal Terrors, the best thing that worked against them was the Implosion spell, after killing them all we searched the area. We found a chest that we couldn't open, we could just touch it and then it damaged us, we also found a shrine, a statue and a stone throne, on it we found the Water Sleeper, after waking him he just said' I'm at 100%.......Grunfeld field generator at 100%'. We didn't know what he meant but at least he was awake, we left this water area through a hole and we were back at the sky road, it seemed we were on the right way so we headed east, killing a lot of Sky Golems until we saw a wagon, when we entered we were greeted by a Merchant of the Elements, he gave us the following riddle 'Between Fire And Water I Constantly Travel', after a bit of thinking Nomad answered with 'Steam'. This was correct and we gained 250.000 Exp. points, we left the wagon and we continued east until we came to a small piece of earth, after stepping on it we got the same question as on the water piece, this time we answered 'Earth' and we were transported to a large earth area. Here we first killed some Earth Blasters, using our normal weapons, and after that we found a stone throne with the Earth Sleeper, after waking him he gave the same answer as the Water Sleeper, this was all we could do here, except for another touch only chest, so we headed down the hole back to the sky road. Next we headed north, and soon we encountered another wagon, after entering the Merchant gave us the following riddle 'Between Water And Earth I Constantly Travel', Rak*el came up with the answer, she said 'Mud' and we all gained another 250.000 Exp. points. We continued north, killing some more Sky Golems and a Cloud Dragon until we came to a small piece of Air, here we answered 'Air' and we were transported to a large cloud area, here we encountered some Whirlwinds, the only thing that had any great effect on them was again the Implosion spell, after killing them we headed to the stone throne, and awakened the Air Sleeper we got again the same message as with the other two sleepers. We left back down the hole to the sky road and we headed west to the last corner, we encountered some Cloud Dragons and three Sky Bandits, they wanted 10.000 Gp. for our passage, we refused and in return they each sent three Cloud Dragons at us, we killed them all and we continued west until we found the third wagon, after entering we got the next riddle 'Between Air And Earth I Constantly Travel', this was a difficult one but after a bit of guessing Roodhaar came up with 'Dust', in return we got 250.000 Xp. points. We left the wagon and we continued west until we reached a sign saying 'Mega Dragon' we continued west but we found nothing, but when Gothmog used the map we did see a small area just south of us, we could reach it with a transportation spell, but we weren't in the mood to attack a Mega Dragon, again we agreed to go back here after completing the last quest. So we continued west until we reached, surprise surprise, a small lava area, after answering 'Fire' we were transported to a large lava area, here we again wakened the Fire Sleeper and he again gave the same message as the other three. We left and we headed south, part two of our quest was complete so we headed back to the place where we had entered the sky road. We soon encountered the fourth wagon, after entering we got the next easy riddle, 'Between Fire And Air I Constantly Travel', the answer was 'Smoke', and we all got again another 250.000 Xp. points. After this we headed south and east, north after that until we reached some wells, at one well we could climb down and we came back on the Darkside of Xeen. For the third part of the quest we had to open the way to the top of Darkstone Tower ... So we headed back to the Clouds side and straight to the Darkstone tower, once there we were not allowed to enter, we didn't have the proper key ... aaaarrgh ... What to do next, we could try to free Prince Roland but there still was this area of Sheltem's dungeon that we couldn't enter.... What we could enter was either the Dragon tower, we got that key from Sheltem's dungeon, or the dungeon of Sandro the Lich, we got the key to this dungeon from him at Necropolis. Since Sandro told us that he kept his dungeon just for fun we decided to give the Dragon tower the first try. So said so done, we left the Darkstone tower heading north, once across the river we headed east, until we came, after killing some Ogres, at a T-junction, here we met Carlawna the Cleric, it seemed that the Scarab we found in the chest guarded by the Gargoyles was stolen from her, we returned the Scarab to her and in return we got 75.000 Exp. points and she offered to teach us the Moon Ray spell, since we already knew that one we thanked her and we left. We continued north/east, killing some jousters until we came to a large lava lake, we entered it and after killing some Acid Dragons and Lava Golems we reached the Dragon Tower, we had no problem with the guard and so we entered into the........ -----------> The Dragon tower, and boy are they tough <----------- Just left of the door we met Alister the Druid, he told us that he needed a dragon egg for his potion, whatever that was, we told him that we would look out for it and we left him. This floor of the tower was largely filled with lava, we found nothing special except for three staircases leading up, after a short discussion I decided that we would take the left one first. So said so done, we climbed up the stairs and.......... we were greeted by 3 Frost Dragons and 1 Acid Dragon, it was a touch fight but we killed them..........with some luck that is. But in the end it was worth it, first we found a treasure of 500.000 Gp., 5000 Gems and a lot of items, we also found some bones of a dead adventurer, on it we found a note saying: 'The secret of the dragons had to do with forever........'. This seemed to be the left part of the tower so it was very small and the only other thing we therefore could find were some stairs leading up to the next floor. We climbed up the stairs, this time prepared for the worst, and we were greeted by 6 Frost Dragons, after killing them we found another treasure, some more bones, a green potion and an egg. We took the treasure, examined the bones which contained a note that said: 'Have to be smart to survive a look in one of the crystal balls.....'. Next we took the egg, it was hidden in a bed, and Gandalf and Gothmog drank from the potion, it gave them +40 on endurance. This was all we could do so we headed back down to the entrance level and we gave the Egg to Alistar, at first he was very grateful, he gave us 1.000.0000 Exp. points but after that.... he chanced into a large Dragon King, well he started it so we just killed him, Rak*el even made a rhyme about it, 'He changed into a Dragon King, and we just smashed his head in.' We had a good laugh and we headed up the right staircase, here we were greeted by 1 Acid and 3 Fire Dragons, we killed them and we found some bones of a dead adventure with a note saying not to trust the druid guy, we already found that out, and we found another treasure worth 500.000 Gp., 5000 Gems and some neat items, we took it all and we headed up the stairs to the next floor. Here we first had to kill 6 Fire Dragons and we found another treasure, worth the same as all the others, a note on a dead adventurer saying: 'The eye of the dragon holds the silver key card' and another green potion. Nomad, Roodhaar and myself drank from it and we headed back down to level one, here we took the middle staircase up and we came to a long corridor, we had to kill 3 Acid Dragons to reach the stairs on the other side. We climbed up these stairs and we came to a similar corridor, this time filled with 2 Fire and 2 Frost Dragons, we killed them and we headed up the stairs into some deeeeep trouble. On this level we encountered 6 Acid Dragons, they were not the problem but the 7 Dragon Kings were, Rak*el did ask if the real Dragon King would step forward but that only made them more mad. It was a tough fight, I had to cast Divine Intervention a few times but in the end we made it, and it was worth it, in this large room we found two treasures of 1.000.000 Gp. each, two books that gave us 10.000.000 Exp. points each for reading them, and we found three chests, but Rak*el couldn't open them so we left them alone. The only thing left to do now was to climb up the stairs, so said so done........ ---> Dragon Clouds, what did we do wrong to deserve this ?? <--- From the tower entrance we headed west and we soon encountered a Cloud Dragon, we killed him and we headed south to some crystals we saw while fighting the Cloud Dragon. This appeared to be Power Crystals, Nomad touched them and he gained +5 levels and he went out cold, Gothmog had to heal him to get him back on his feet. We found these crystals all over the clouds, they gave +3, +4 or +5 levels and sometimes they knocked the person who touched them out cold, we did touch all the crystals and we tried to keep all our levels as close together as we possibly could. So I won't mention again what the crystal did to any of us. We continued south to the edge of the clouds, we then headed west alongside the edge until we encountered a Phase Dragon, he was very tough but we managed to kill him, Gothmog had to cast Divine Intervention to bring us all back up to strength. We continued west alongside the edge until we found an Ancient Book of Dragon, I first tried to read it but I couldn't understand the runes, so Gandalf tried and he came up with 'FI'. We wrote it down and since we couldn't go any further west or south we headed north. After a short walk we encountered 5 Cloud and 2 Phase Dragons, we killed them, again Divine Intervention came in very handy, and we touched the 5 Power Crystals they guarded. We then headed north until we came to the northern edge of the clouds, here we found another book, after reading Gandalf came up with the letters 'IN'. We headed east, alongside the edge, until we saw another Power Crystal to the south, we went to it, touched it, and we killed the Cloud Dragon that approached from the south, we continued south, touching another Power Crystal, until we were back at the south edge of the clouds. Heading west would bring us back to the first book so we continued east until we were south of the tower entrance, here we were attacked by another Cloud Dragon, we killed it and we headed south/west into a side arm of the clouds, here we first encountered 2 more Cloud Dragons and after that 4 Phase Dragons, we were heavily damaged after this fight so Gothmog cast Divine Intervention again. At the end of this side arm we found a Crystal Ball of the dragons past, the note we found in the tower said you had to be very smart to survive a look, since Gandalf was the smartest of us, his intellect was almost 200, he looked into the ball. Well, what ever he saw, it completely eradicated him so Gothmog had to resurrect him, Gandalf then told us that he had seen some very complex scenes and he just couldn't explain them..... We left this side arm and once south of the tower we headed east until we were attacked by a Green Dragon, we killed him and we headed south into a second side arm, here we first encountered 2 more Green Dragons and after them we met 5 Energy Dragons, and boy were they tough, this was one of the hardest battles we fought in a long long time. Anyway after a lot of Divine Intervention spells we defeated them, we continued south until we came to the end of this arm where we found another Crystal Ball, we left it alone and we headed back to the tower entrance. Since this was a solid platform we rested here to regain our magical points. Next morning we explored that part of the clouds that was east of the tower, we already covered the west and south sides. Here we encountered some more Green and Energy Dragons, and of course some more Power Crystals, we touched them all and we headed to the north/east and south/west corners. Here we found two more books and Gandalf found the words 'NI' and 'TY'. We now had found 'FI IN NI TY', Rak*el quickly found the word: 'INFINITY', we wrote it down and we headed back to the tower entrance. From here we headed north, touched some more Power Crystals until we came to a statue in the north, another Ball in the west and a well that gave us +50 levels for a day to the east. We touched the statue and a voice asked us the secret of the dragons, we answered 'INFINITY' and we got a silver ID card and a voice saying we were right, but the most spooky was that laugh we heard, it was from SHELTEM, we were sure.......... And why would he laugh here....... Well, we soon found out why he laughed, all the dragons were back........and we were in some deeeeeeeeep sh*t, we fought as hard as we could but there were too many, we had to escape, but how..... Gothmog came up with the answer, he cast town portal and he brought us to Sandcaster, phew........ We first headed to the venom pond where we drank from the fountain to bring our age back to normal, Gothmog then cast us to Castleview and from there we headed to castle Kalindra. @~The final part will be next issue - o -
