Ultima 7 - Black Gate and Forge of Virtue (Part 3) CD Rom solution from Bill Commons @~Continued from Issue 40 Go to the Mage Greshian and he will tell you of a great sword that he tried to make. He will then make a forge and give you a sword blank. You must use the forge to temper and beat the blank to make a sword. Fill up the trough by clicking on the bucket, the well and the trough, it takes three bucketfulls. Put the blank on the forge and use the bellows until the sword is white hot, then click on the hammer, the sword and the anvil until it says you can do no more. Take the sword back to the mage and he will say it needs magic to make it better. The gem says that it could be the answer and Greshian gives you the choice. If you choose to bind the sword and the gem then you cannot put it down. The answer is that if you need a free hand then you can put the sword in your belt. Recall to Dracothraxus and ask the sword to kill the dragon. When this is done you can go north to pick up the Talisman of Courage. You are now teleported back and are given a new quest, to find the Talisman of Infinity. This is in Greshian's room and when you talk to him about it he says that you need two lenses and how to send the Exodus into the void, then he will talk to you no more. The sword then says "fear not for I know something of this matter." He tells you to go to the museum in Britain and get the two lenses. Change the dragon mark to the centre of this room and recall to Britain. Pick up the two lenses then back to Fire Isle. Put the three Lockets on the top of the Exodus remains, as the sword instructs you and place the lenses to the left and right of it. Greshian will try to stop you after this and casts a spell, then he and the Exodus vanish. Return to Lord British and he will reward you by doubling your strength and hit points. I feel that if he was able to do this, I wonder why he did not do it earlier, it would have made life a lot easier. But then he is a bit of a wally where the Fellowship is concerned, he will hear no evil about them when I saw through them in the first town. Still I am the Avatar. Enter the east side moongate and re-enter each five times and you should arrive at New Magincia. Talk to Constance and she tells you how she is heartbroken by Henry and she now has fallen for a handsome stranger named Robin. There are three strangers on the island and they have stolen Henry's locket and sold it to Boris the innkeeper, keep talking to Boris, Magentia and Robin and you will recover the locket from the innkeeper's wife. Show it to Robin and he will ask you to take him back to Buccaneers Den. He tells you of his plan to take Constance with him and sell her to the brothel. When you refuse to join them they will attack, poor things. Show the locket to Constance and tell her of her lucky escape, then give the locket back to Henry. Go north and visit Alagner, ask about his notebook and he agrees to loan it to you if you can give him the answer to life and death. He tells you to seek out the tortured one on Skara Brae. Fly to this island, there are only a few places to land. Or you can land on the mainland and take the ferry. You can only talk to all the undead if you cast the seance spell. Talk to all on the island and find out that the tortured one is called Caine. He promises to give you the answers if you will rid the island of the evil liche named Horance. Talk to the healer Mordra and she will give you a recipe for a potion. The ingredients are in her house. Take them to Caine and he will show you how to make the potion. Go to the Dark Tower in the N/W Taking the music box from the blacksmith's shop. Play it to Rowena and she will give you a ring. Take this back to the blacksmith, her husband, and he will ask you to get an iron bar from the cemetery, this will allow him to complete the soul cage. Get the bar for him and he will give you the completed cage. Take this to Mordra and she tells you to enchant it by lowering it into the Well of Souls at the north end inside the Dark Tower. At midnight lower the cage over the sleeping liche and pour the magic potion over it. This frees Horance from the evil powers and he asks you to lead Rowena back to the blacksmith, after that he wants you to destroy the Well of Souls. This is accomplished by getting someone to jump into the well. You ask everybody and after a few reservations the mayor agrees to sacrifice himself. Caine then gives you the answer. "No answers." and you return to Alagner. He will give you the key to his storeroom where the notebook is kept. It is best to go in alone as your companions can obscure levers or get killed by the traps. I went through the secret wall in the S/W corner and used the key to open the gate. Drop all your weapons and armour so that you can carry more. Keep putting the crates in front of you and make your way to the central red lever. Push this and carefully enter the middle room. Place the crates as far north as you can, then go on the platform. This teleports you to the left side corridor, go up and across to the room on the right. Step on the right platform and you go to the left hand room. Push the lever on the rear wall, this lowers the central metal walls. Step on the left platform and you will be back at the start. Repeat the operation up to the red lever, carefully enter the central room and use a telekinesis spell to move the red lever. The door closes and you carefully walk along to the east wall then north keeping away from the platform. Put the crates as far north as you can and walk through the north wall. Enter a new area taking the crates as you go. Move the chairs and the candelabra from the table then use that and the crates plus some more found at the rear, to make a stairway up to the first floor room. Open the door and enter to get the notebook. The other levers and doors are mostly traps and time wasters so are best ignored. Make your way out picking up your possessions and gang, then return to the Wisps. They will tell you how to meet the Time Lord and not to trust the Guardian who is building a black moongate to enter Britannia. When you go back to return the notebook you find that Alagnar has been murdered and if you look in his crystal ball you can see his murderers. You also get a message from the Guardian thanking you for showing him the notebook. Go to Yew on the coast N/W of the abbey, and using your Orb of the Moons, contact the Time Lord. He tells you to repair the ether and to contact Penumbria on Moonglow. He also tells you to go to a dungeon called Dungeon Despise in Serpents Spine to destroy a sphere in it, this is where you found the magic carpet. When you leave you will find yourself in Moonglow. Get a crystal from the traveller Addom to give to Brion in the Observatory and he will give you the completed small orrery. This shows how much time is left before the Guardian comes. Go to the house in the north west of the island and put on the ground by the plaque the following - a hammer, a lockpick, a gold ring, a spindle of thread and a coin. A key will appear and you can open the door. Give Penumbria the orange potion that is near her and she will ask you to get some blackrock to stop her head aching. This can be collected at the Minoc or Vesper mines or at Rudyon's house in Cove. You require four pieces. When this is done she will tell you that the ether is being disturbed by something in Dungeon Deceit. A tetrahedron. She goes on to say that you must get the ethereal ring from Lord Draxinuson on Terfin and bring it back to her, to enchant. Go to Terfin and Talk to Lord Draxinusom. First of all tell him of the murder of Inamo at Trinsic. He will ask you to tell Teregus about his son's death. Enquire about the town and find a note in Sarplin's shop that implicates Runeb the leader of the Fellowship in the plot and he also defaced the shrines. When you tell Teregus he asks you to confront Runeb and this leads to a fight. Lord Draxinusom tells you that he has sold the ethereal ring to the Sultan of Spectran. Go to Spectran and talk to Martingo the sultan and he will say that you can have anything that he has, if you can get into his vault, including the ethereal ring. I found this very easy now but when I tried much earlier I was killed each time. Return to Penumbria and don't be surprised if the blackrock has vanished I also stored some outside and this was missing too. When you have sorted this out she will enchant the ring. Go to Dagger Island and enter Dungeon Deceit, Here you have some fights and traps, also a couple of things that I could not work out. First there are two girl warriors who want to kill a cyclops and he says let them come, but I found no way to bring them together, also each time you pass a certain spot you get two cries of "help" but I could not find anyone in distress. Go into the generator alone wearing the ring and defeat the monster, take the prism and the whole structure crumbles. Go to Paws and buy the hourglass from the shop of items, take it to Yew and get Nicodemus to enchant it. Now go to a dungeon at 34 north 4 west, in the centre of Serpents Spine mountains. This is a complicated dungeon and is probably best searched alone at first. Wander around and note all the traps and areas that lead to nowhere. See the firebombs and the lever that says "do not enter" go south and find the area with the beds and the fire fields, open the invisible chest and find the secret passage out by using the invisible spell. Now collect your party and travel along the secret passage just before the trap room where you keep being sent back along the passage. Explore all this area, tell the mage how to get home and defeat all the monsters, you will eventually be teleported to Dungeon Despise. @~The last section will be in the next issue. - o -
