Editorial Welcome to Issue 41 of SynTax and SynWin. Alex has made a few changes to SynWin after comments from readers. Most of the changes will be easy to spot, such as a choice of font and a list of previously used directories. Just copy the version of SYNWIN21.EXE from this disk over your old version. One small amendment to the manual; SynWin now writes a file SYNWIN.INI to your hard disk into the directory from which you run SynWin. Full details are in a file in the Articles section. Congratulations to James Judge and John Betteridge who both guessed Nogwidget's real name. It was ... wait for it ... Jean Childs! I bet that surprised a lot of people. We only had one Dragonlance mouse mat to give away, and we thought it was a shame to have to choose between the two Js, so Jean kindly donated another one and they should both have their prizes by now. Well done, and we hope you liked them. SynTax is busier than ever, mostly due to the on-going advert in PC Mart - a full page each issue! This means that I have been a bit slower than usual turning orders around through sheer pressure of my different bits of work - SynTax, PC Mart and the DTP all have to be juggled, and a bit of housework included every so often ... One chap asked if we had covered face-to-face RPGs, and I had to admit we hadn't - yet - so if YOU would like to write something on this topic, please do. Lol Oakes and I played Riddle of Master Lu during January and thoroughly enjoyed it apart from the fact that we both had problems with crashes, which got more frequent until the game was unplayable. Lol contacted US Gold who provided a patch disk and I have added it to the library. If anyone wants a copy, just send œ1 or a blank, formatted high density 3.5" disk plus a stamp to me, and I'll put a copy in the post to you. I managed to pick up a copy of the Spellcasting Party Pack at a local show so have finally been able to get back to Spellcasting 301. It is a great game, very funny, and much harder than the first two. I've got a fair way through it but I think I'm now completely stuck, trying to give a bull a run for his money (those who've played it will get my drift). I also looked at an old RPG, Martian Dreams, from Origin. I'm sorely tempted to buy some new games - Anvil of Dawn sounds especially good - but I have a lot of oldies here that I feel I should finish first. Shall I be 'good' or extravagant? What a choice! Well, there's lots for you to read so I'll stop there. Enjoy the magazine. Sue - o -
