Menzoberranzan (Part 3) Solution by Alex van Kaam @~Continued from Issue 40 -----> Stage 8, Temple of Dumathoin - 3, NPC: None Monsters: Spitting crawlers and Hook horrors Items: Potion of fire resistance, Citrine, Plate mail, Halberd, Iron circle key, Diamond, Shield of lightning protection, Shield, Silver axe key, Axe of hurling, Battle axe, Ring of generation, 2 Potions of extra heal and the Scrolls of Improved identify, Remove paralysis and Draw dexterity. Again an easy level, there are three things you must find to advance, the iron circle key to the north/west, a diamond to the north and a silver axe key to the north/east. Explore the whole level and go through the door with the iron circle lock, here you will find the fountain, place the diamond in your hand and use it on the fountain, in return you will get the axe of hurling, now place the chalice in your hand and Borenorak will be healed. The exit to this level is south from the fountain. -----> Stage 6, Temple of Dumathoin - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Roper Items: None You will now enter in the s/e area, kill the roper and go down the other stairs. -----> Stage 5, Dwarven Mines NPC: None Monsters: Drow fighters and Drow priestesses Item: None You will appear in the north/east of this level, kill the Drow and make your way to the first door, here you will be ambushed by Drow fighters and they will take Drizzt. Now before going any further go back to the Temple of Dumathoin, level 2 and free the prisoner, he will join you but you must help him find the Myconids and their king, he is the only one who can help Vlakverdling from his poison. Now make your way back to were you were ambushed and give Vlakverdling the items that Drizzt dropped, you have to hurry since Vlakverdling is suffering from the radiation and he needs Drizzt's gem. After all this go through the gate, kill the Drow and make your way to the mine car, remember, once you entered this there is no way back. -----> Stage 9, Cavern of the Myconids NPC: None Monsters: Violet funguses, Shriekers, Umber hulks and Fungi Skeletons Items: Jade spider, Quiver, 4 Arrows, Ring of protection, Adamantite chain helm, Battle axe, Dagger of throwing, Adamantite plate helm, Wand of enemy detection, 3 Lumps of fungus, 2-Handed sword, Plate mail and the Scrolls of Magical stones, Levitate, Hold monster, Protection from evil 10 foot, Flame strike, Haste and Vampiric touch. Near your entrance you will find a Jade spider, take it and attach it to the helm you got from the innkeeper, now explore the east and west of this level and after this head south. At some places you will see a pillar standing in front of an entrance, to get through just walk through the wall that closes the other side of this entrance. After a while you will come to a large area with Fungi skeletons, kill them and head south, here you will meet Myconids guards, after a short chat they send you to their king called Feerus, he can be found south from the guards in his throne room. He will help you with a cure for Vlakverdling if you destroy an Umber hulk who is destroying the fungus fields. Go west, kill the Umber hulk and return to Feerus, he will give you 3 lumps of fungus, use one on Vlakverdling to cure him, now go and find the exit in the south/west of this level. -----> Stage 10, Cavern of the Galeb Duhr NPC: None Monsters: Ropers and Verbeegs Items: Plate helm, Galeb Duhr's necklace, White robe, Blue candle, Chest with Borgenar's stone, Broad sword, Quiver, Shield, Blue gem, 5 Potions of flying, 3 Potions of passweb and the scrolls of Cone of cold, darkfire, Wizard's eye, Spider cloak armor, Aid, Acid bolt, Enchant weapon, Prayer and Disintegrate. At the start this area is very small, and you will soon meet Galeb Duhr, talk to him and he will tell you that if you return his necklace he will open a passageway for you, agree and he will make a passage to the north. Go north and you will find his necklace in the north/west, nearby you will also find Borgenar's stone, use this to cast stone skin on one or all party members. Return the necklace to Galeb Duhr and he will open a passage to the west, now find the exit in the south/west corner, remember that once through there is no way back. -----> Stage 11, Caverns of the Driders - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Carrion crawlers, Violet funguses, Driders, Uropyguses and Drow fighters. Items: Javelin of lightning, Plate mail, Blue gem, 3 Potions of flying and the Scrolls of Passweb, Cure serious wounds, Ice knife, Slow, Improved identify and Cure disease. This is a bit of a tricky level, east of where you start you will find 2 transporters, one of these is behind a web. Now first enter the one behind the web, if you take the other one you will reach a point where you can't go back anymore and you would miss a large piece of this and the Myconids' level. So be sure that you take the one behind the web, if you encounter any rust monsters you have taken the wrong one. Now make your way to the north/west, finding a blue gem and an exit to the Myconids' level. -----> Stage 9, Cavern of the Myconids NPC: Monsters: Ochre jellies and Night hunters Items: Potion of levitation, Admantite plate mail, Halberd and the scrolls of Draw strenght and Web. You will now be able to map the north/west area of this level, in the south/east of this area behind 2 doors is a hole in the floor, do not enter this, it will drop you to the Caverns of the Driders - 1 but you will miss a lot of that level. After mapping this area go back the same way you came. -----> Stage 11, Caverns of the Driders - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Rust monsters, Carrion crawlers, Driders, Drow fighters, Drow priestesses, Uropyguses, Violet funguses and Cloaker lords. Items: Blue gem, Rusted plate mail, Ivory scroll case, Rod of anti levitation, Wand of magic missile, Adamantite chain mail, Potion of passweb, Potion of flying and the Scrolls of Lightning bolt, Cure critical wounds, Ice storm and Fireseed. Now make your way back to the transporter behind the web and take the other one, it's a bit to the south. Now make sure that you explore this whole area, getting the gem, before you continue to explore the area behind the Carrion crawler, because in the area behind him is a one way transporter. This transporter will transport you to a new small area, here you will find another transporter which will transport to yet another area where you will find the exit to the next level. -----> Stage 12, Caverns of the Driders - 2 NPC: Vonar Monsters: Driders Items: Throwing knife, Black candle, Gauntlets of stone giants strenght, Gem of infravision and the Scrolls of Spider venom immunity and Stinking cloud. This is a small level, north of your entrance you will find Vonar, swap him for Vlakverdling, then west you will find a exit back to the Caverns of the Driders - 1, now this is where you would have come from if you dropped through the hole on the Myconids' level. North of where you found Vonar you will encounter a drider by the name of Maznafein, he will give you a scroll to pass a chasm if you agree to go and see Ssar Tarell in the bazaar of Menzoberranzan. Make the deal and continue east until you find the gem and the exit. -----> Stage 11, Caverns of the Driders - 1 NPC: None Monsters: Night hunters and Cloaker lords. Items: Potion of fly, Potion of giant strenght, Piwafwi cloak, 2 Blue gems, Keoghtom's ointment and the Scroll of Flamestrike. Make your way west until you come to a big spider web, use the scroll you got from Maznafein here. Now explore the rest of this level until you reach the exit to the east. -----> Stage 13, Underground river NPC: None Monsters: A lot Items: None Pay the ferryman 2 gems and enter the boat, but be sure you are at full health because on your trip on this boat you are being attacked by a lot of monsters and there is nothing you can do about it. After leaving the boat go to the exit. -----> Stage 14, Approach to Menzoberranzan NPC: None Monsters: Uropyguses and Umber hulks Items: Keoghtom's ointment, Banded mail and the Scroll of Raise dead. This is a small easy level, just find the exit in the south/east and go through. You have now reached the city of Menzoberranzan, on the map that you see now are several buildings, some you can enter now, others later after doing certain tasks. Now first enter the merchant's bazaar. -----> Menzoberranzan, Merchant's bazaar NPC: None Monsters: None Items: Long sword, Potion of levitation, Potion of healing and the Scroll of Cure serious wounds Ssar Tarell's shop is the second shop east of the entrance, enter it and talk to her, tell her you met Maznafein and after a short conversation she will send you to Jalyfein in the Tower of Sorcery. Leave the bazaar and enter the Tower of Sorcery. @~The final part will be next issue - o -
