News Full motion games are still very popular, and a new one on the way is Psychic Detective from Electronic Arts. You, as the detective of the title, have to solve a murder by collecting clues ... from suspects' brains! You jump from one to another, watching the story unfold from their point of view. Another FMV game is Ripper. The advertising for the game says "We didn't just eclipse Phantasmagoria and the 11th Hour, we ripped them apart" ... brave words! Still, it does look and sound good with 6 CDs of state of the art special effects, music from Blue Oyster Cult, over 35 interactive puzzles, and acting by John Rhys-Davies, Christopher Walken, Burgess Meredith and Tahnee Welch among others. If horror is your thing, and you also enjoy solving logic puzzles, check out Sierra's Shivers. You have to spend a night in an abandoned museum and capture 10 evil entities in order to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the museum's owner. If you'd rather play 'I spy' than have a horrific time, Activision's Spy Craft may grab you. It was programmed in collaboration with William Colby and Oleg Kalugin, respective leaders of the CIA and KGB and you play a CIA operative, trying to save your country or your own skin ... or both. Warcraft II is now available and features many extras to build on the original game. Humans are aided by elves and dwarves and Orcs are joined by trolls and ogres, with battles in the air or on the sea as well as on land. You can play either side, as orcish attackers, trying to wrest the land of Azeroth from the humans or as human defenders, trying to regain your homeland. The graphics for Anvil of Dawn from New World Computing / DreamForge Entertainment look most impressive and it has been awarded a Golden Triad Award in recognition. It is an RPG containing a huge 3D rendered environment, hundreds of weapons, spells, artefacts, objects and armour, scores of monsters, NPCs (all with plenty to say for themselves) and puzzles. It is turn based with real time combat and has an invisible interface. On the graphic adventure side, Touche: The Adventures of the Fifth Musketeer is now available from US Gold and is a humorous re-telling of the tale. On its way is Orion Burger from Sanctuary Woods which lends an interesting (and maybe libellous) slant to the ins and outs of the fast food industry. Humans are being turned into burgers for the intergalactic fast food chain named Orion Burger. Only by showing that humans are sentient can you stop this dodgy catering. Star Trek fans can look forward to Star Trek:Deep Space Nine - Harbinger. As a Tirrion envoy for the Federation, you are on Deep Space Nine when it is rocked by a plasma storm and must join with the DS9 team to save the station in this first person perspective game. - o -
