4 ZENOBI AMIGA PD GAMES ----------------------- Available from the Zenobi Software catalogue Reviewed by: Phil Richmond T.M.A. by CLEAR 1994 An arcade style game that's easy to play. You guide your spacecraft sprite through scrolling corridors on the screen, passing through zones, where you must collect power crystals and avoid aliens. Move over coloured "passes" to allow passage through "forcefields", pick up ammo/energy, and gather keys for access to other zones. There are transporter points which move you to other areas in the game. It's advisable to find a laser fairly soon - as you begin with only 3 lives. Amigaguide instructions are provided and the disk is hard drive installable. This is the full game. The author states that his main influence was the 'Ultimate Play The Game' series on the ZX Spectrum. Joystick required. RAISE THE TITANIC by C. Millin A 3D Construction Kit game with the usual game controls. An animated title sequence shows you descending to the sea bed at a depth of 2 miles in sight of the famous wreck. You must navigate a miniature powered submersible through the gaping hole in the hull and somehow locate the 5 AntiGravs needed to float the ship to the surface. Your view is from the window of this mini-sub. Movement is by mouse or joystick, I found it easier to use a joystick. You activate objects and fire at them using the left and right mouse buttons. Swimming through hatches in the forward hull ceiling is a bit fiddly until you discover the trick. There is a room with a jammed door. Push this from the side and it slides open, giving access to other areas of the ship - cabins, corridors, cargo holds, workrooms etc. I found that moving an item of furniture disclosed a secret room wherein stood one of the 5 AntiGrav machines. Shooting the lights on it in a certain order activated one of the floats. It is clearly an above average 3DCK game. The main user interface is well drawn and helps to give the illusion of being underwater. SOLO ASSAULT by Ola Zandelin. Shareware. This is a demo and features sequences from the larger version (10 pounds) Level 1 has you strapped in the cockpit of your space jet dodging and firing your way through an asteroid belt. If you make it through without total damage to your shields or without your engine blowing you've done well! Gfx and Sfx are good. Level 2 has you on board a ship duelling with an opponent in a lightsabre fight. Beat him, and it's on to Level 3 - More asteroids... Level 4 and you have to shoot down an attack wave of enemy spacecraft, beautifully animated on screen, which come swooping towards you firing their deadly missiles. Get through that and guess what? More asteroids... There are 17 levels in all. If you are not seriously 'joystick challenged', and enjoy space shoot-em-ups then "Solo Assault" might be up your street. HELICOPTER MISSION Arcade/Strategy Demo This looks similar to EA's "Desert Strike". Once you've gone through a loading screen, typed in your name and a password (provided), chosen your pilot and helicopter, you select a mission and are briefed by your Commander for a search and rescue mission. Unfortunately, everything is in German, so I had no idea what he was going on about... Never mind, I thought, I'll just fly around and see what I can do... Sadly, I didn't get far! It seems, as this is a demo - and a fine one at that - the authors have cunningly restricted movement to a single screen, which meant I was left to fly my chopper around in circles with no hope of ever accomplishing anything. Presumably the full game is much more playable with a variety of missions. A contact address and telephone number are given on disk should this appeal to flight/strategy games fans. These and other PD games are available from Zenobi Software, 26, Spotland Tops, Cutgate, ROCHDALE, Lancashire. OL12 7NX Price 1.49 each.
