Letters @~Any letters sent to me that aren't marked 'not for publication' @~and which deal with adventure-related matters will be considered @~for inclusion, maybe being edited in the process. ------------------------------------------------------------------ @~Following last issue's prizes from Nogwidget ... I mean Jean ... From James Judge, Chidley Cross Dear Sue, Just a quick letter to say two things. The first is thanks to you and Jean/ Nogwidget for the funky mouse mat. It was a nice surprise getting it through the post, as I had totally forgotten about the competition and was planning to nip into Maidstone and get myself a new mousemat. The mat itself is nice and big, chunky and it grips the table like superglue. The Dragonlance piccy on the front is really good ("Dragons of Hope" by Keith Parkinson which you can see on the ST disk 548 - The Art Of Dungeons and Dragons) showing you a large red dragon bearing down on a small yellow wyvern while gouting flame and it's all taking place in a rocky canyon. Brill! Thanks again. The second thing I'd like to raise is SynWin. Well done Alex for including everyone's suggestions and now I can say with my hand on my heart that it is what I will be using from now on. Top Notch. Right, that's it from me. Keep up the good work. ------------------------------------------------------------------ @~And... From John Betteridge, West Drayton Thank you very much for the Mouse Mat, now taking pride of place beside Computer No. 1. @~Glad you both liked your mats. Jean gave me one too and it's @~great - as James said, a very good size. Mine is called The @~Sword of Thornbane by Larry Elmore ... Sue ------------------------------------------------------------------ From John Wilson, Zenobi Software, 26 Spotland Tops, Cutgate, Rochdale, Lancs OL12 7NX Dear Sue, Have finished reading the latest issue of `SynTax' and whilst I will be the first to admit that the review of `Fistful' was both fair and accurate, I do think that your reviewer was a shade misleading in regards to his comments about the whereabouts of the knife. In actual fact the knife is NOT hidden in the depths of a `scratch' in the table-top but is stuck into the table, next to a `neatly-carved' set of initials. In truth the game will not even recognise the word `scratch' so I have no idea where he obtained that idea from. This will also play havoc with your own theory about the `depth' of the scratch and its similarity to the `Grand Canyon'. I will hold my own hand up as being the soul responsible for making the location of the knife so obtuse but you are given a prod in the right direction from the text of the leaflet that accompanied the game ... though maybe not quite as obviously as I thought. Anyway I just thought I would drop you a line and attempt to clarify the situation ... though knowing me I will most probably have made things even `muddier'. @~I passed John's letter on to James Jillians, together with a @~copy of a compilation of George's games which John kindly sent. @~Apologies to John for any confusion. I still think a knife stuck @~in a table should be immediately apparent without having to @~examine it, scratch, initials or whatever notwithstanding though @~I must admit to have made people `examine' for similar objects @~in my own games in the past. ------------------------------------------------------------------ @~Now two updates on Aliens from ... Richard Hewison, Luton @~First ... ... I've discovered that Aliens - A Comic Book Adventure is bugged and requires a replacement from Mindscape - to upgrade from version 1.01 to v1.01a they must call Mindscape technical support on 01444 239600 and/or just send CD 1 back to them enclosing the relevant details. @~And later ... ... I sent you some details on the Aliens - A Comic Book Adventure last time. It now transpires that version 1.01a will work on some systems but not on others. There might be a problem with CD 2 (labelled version 1.0) which causes the game to lock up when the ship first lands on the planet soon after the start of the game. This happens on my 486 so I've sent the whole thing back to Mindscape. I noticed you've now got a solution to the game so it obviously must work on some PCs as CD 1 vers 1.01a and CD 2 version 1.0 are the current latest versions. - o -
