Aethra Chronicles - Book Of Prophecy Quick Guide by James Judge Start the game by getting a human Paladin, halfling Rogue and a half-elven Sorcerer. Watch out for the Rogue as he'll have very low hit points and he'll die easily. Give the Paladin strength of 100 and Wisdom of 100 and high other scores, then increase his Fortification, Hand Weapons, Spell points and Perception scores, as well as any others that you feel are necessary. For the Rogue give him high Agility and Intelligence and increase his Bow skill, Trap Detection and Removal as well as Lock Picking Skills as high as possible, as well as Fortification and Attack Dodging. For the Elf give him high Intelligence and Reasoning and then increase Object Identification, Rune Reading, Spell List, Spell Points, Fortification Dodging and Perception. When you enter the city get Kasalah from the Mercenary Guild, Lunica from the temple and Peral from the Crafts Guild. Buy everyone an assortment of armour (chain mail for the your Paladin and Kasalah and Leather Jerkins for the rest) and get Peral and your Rogue as good a bow as you can afford (at least a Normal). Also get Broadswords for your Paladin, Kasalah, Peral and your Rogue as well as a Hammer for your Cleric. If you can afford it get a Broadsword++ for your Paladin and a Two-Handed axe for Kasalah. Then go to the top right hand quadrant of the city and see the man about the book. He'll tell you to go to the bottom centre quadrant of the city, but before you do that take a visit to the cemetery on the left hand side of the city. Go over the small square structure in the bottom left hand part of it and enter. Explore and pick up as much treasure as possible, fighting all the monsters and, finally, picking up the dead body. Don't worry about going back to the city and sleeping as the monsters don't move around the map, so you will be safe. Once you've got the dead body go back the temple in the city (top right hand section) and deliver the body there to get 100GP. Now go to the central bottom square and enter the square, burnt-out hut at the bottom of the screen. If you need to come out for a rest there is an Inn at the top of this screen which only charges 18GP. Explore both levels of the dungeon and watch out for the rats - they are easy to kill, but some can give you disease. Once you've been everywhere search the first floor for secret doors - this may take some while. You'll find a few but one will lead you into a relatively large new section of the dungeon. In here will be the Bandit Leader and the painting, which is hanging on the wall of his room. Take the painting and go back to the man in the city you spoke with earlier. He'll now tell you to find a monastery and ask the monks for the book. Go around the city and enter the temple, mages and crafts guild and increase your mage, rogue, Peral's and Lucina's levels. Then exit the city and go north, visiting the first large city you come to called Drensea. In the bottom right of the city are two guilds - one will train your Paladin and one will train Kasalah. Also here is where you must take the book when you've found it - someone in the north of the city will help. Exit the city and continue north, following the road until you come to a town on some crossroads, take the north branch and enter the mountains. Go towards the small structure and speak with the dragon, asking about the Book Of Prophecies. Enter his lair and then go through it systematically, destroying all of the monsters. There are three useful weapons here - two swords and an elven bow, as well as Joshua's Bridge, all of which you should find with ease. Once you've killed all of the monsters exit from the lair. If you need to keep on coming out of the lair after every battle to rest and before you face the Dark Elves at the North-East part of the lair go back to the guilds and train up your characters another level, as well as getting some better armour. Once you've cleaned out the lair speak with the dragon and he'll give you the Book as well as a resurrect scroll. Got back to Drensea and deliver the book. Well done, you've completed this chapter! One word of warning - I found a great sword and it was cursed, so if you find it don't equip it otherwise you'll have a poor fighter on your hands. Save often and don't worry about getting characters killed - just reload and try the fights again. Always wear new and better armour, as well as replacing weapons with ones which do the most damage. In a fight always pick off the magic users first and a general rule of thumb is that the bigger the monster, the nastier it is, so once the mages have died concentrate on them. - o -
