DRAGON LORE (CD Version) from MINDSCAPE - Part 1 A Solution by Philip Reynolds (c) 1996 Start by talking to the farmer, who asks you to find a bowl, turn round and go through the gate then take the right hand path, go past the first field where the trog guards the gate and continue on to the next field. Go over to the stone shed and pick up the bone then return to the trog and use the bone on the trog. Go over to the shed and pick up the bowl then return to the farm and use the bowl on the farmer. The farmer then asks you take Daisy to her pasture, go into the farmhouse and pick up the rope that hangs to the left of the door, leave the farm and take the left path, go into the entrance to the left and use the rope on Daisy and she will now follow you. Travel back along the path back to the field with the stone shed and use the rope on the tree to tie Daisy to the tree then go back to the farm and go inside. Talk to the farmer again and he gives you a Dragon ring and a whistle, move around the farm picking up a flint, a bag of sulphur, a staff, armour and a shield, you don't need the canteen. Leave the farmhouse and go over to the cart, pick up the sword then go around the back of the farmhouse and pick up the war hammer. Now leave the farm and take the left path, ready the armour, shield and sword then continue along the path to where a trog blocks your way. Kill the trog then continue on to a standing stone. Go right then move across to the left hand skull and enter the tunnel, pick up the key in the chamber then return outside. Go over to the right hand skull and enter the tunnel then use the key on the gate to open it. Turn right into the corridor and kill the Skeleton that confronts you. Continue along the corridor and on the right wall just past an entrance to the left you will find a button, press this to release a boulder trap which you avoid by diving into the left hand entrance. Go back along the corridor to the remains of the boulder and pick up the key amongst the remains. Now go back down the corridor and use the key on the gate at the end to open it. Open the trap door and you drop through into a room below. Use the Dragon ring on the door to open it then go over to the left side coffin and click on the empty hole, the dragon which is patrolling the room will now talk to you, talk with the dragon and it will give you an open door spell. Leave the chamber and return to the single standing stone then take the right path, here you meet Chen Lai, talk to him then follow the path until you reach a door in the hill side. Go through the door into a tunnel and move to the half way point in the tunnel face the left wall and ready the war hammer. Hit the wall to reveal a niche containing a spell book, pick up the book, then use the open door spell on the book, read the book then ready the book and cast the open door spell at the door at the end of the corridor. Go through the door then continue along the path to a crossroads, take the left hand path and enter the building. Talk to Albert and George behind the bar and they will ask you to fetch some resin from the hive of the dragonfly, giving you a ladle to carry it in. Leave the building then ready your sword and go along the path past the cross-roads into a cave. Kill the dragonfly then go to the back of the cave and use the ladle on the little cup to get the resin. Return to the building and use the ladle on Albert and George behind the bar, they will then give you a rope, a morning star and a fireball spell. Use the fireball spell on the spell book then leave the building and go back to the crossroads, take the left path to some stones blocked by a web. Cast a fireball at the web then continue along the path to the ferry. Here you meet a black armoured figure (Haagen von Diakonov), talk to him then ready a weapon and kill the minion that he sets on you. Search the body to find an oar and a cleaver, get the oar then use the oar on the ferry and go onto the ferry to cross the river. Once on the other side talk to the Dragon Knight (Formar Thain) then continue along the path to where it is blocked by a man eating plant. Near the right hand tentacle you will find an animal skull, pick this up and use the rope on it to form a grapnel. Use the grapnel on the branch above the plant and you will swing past it to safety on the other side. Here you will meet Tanathya Hyrenapth, talk to her then continue along the path to a toadstool village. The Dragon Knight Cheldrya Serpentina is here, talk to her then move to the left of the village and leave by the bridge there. At the fountain take the first path to the left and enter the tower at the end of the path, talk to the woman here and she gives you a cog telling you to replace it where it belongs. Go to the upper floor of the tower and search the drawers to find a cloth, pick this up then return to the fountain. Take the second left turning to a flower garden then follow the path through to a building with some cogs on the wall, place your cog in the vacant space. Also here will be Kuru one of the Dragon Knights, talk to him then return to the flower garden. Pick some of the flowers and you will fall unconscious and be rescued by Arthus of Erwyndyll, talk to him then take the second right path to a lake with a building in the middle. Pick up an apple from the pile next to the lake and use it on the beast beside the lake, just behind the beast is a lever, pull this and you are transported to the building. Talk to the woman and she gives you a key, now pull the lever near the entrance of the building to get back to the lakeside and return to the fountain. Use the cloth on the fountain to wet it then wear it over your face and go back to the flower garden. Pick some of the blue flowers then return to the toadstool village, ready your sword then eat the flowers and you shrink in size. Wandering around this area is a scorpion, kill this then look around until you find a potion bottle. Pick up the bottle, the potion inside will restore your life points to maximum if you drink it. You should now be able to enter two of the of the toadstool buildings, one will be empty and in the other you will meet a sprite. Go into one of the buildings and go upstairs, if the sprite is here, talk to the sprite and it gives you a dispel illusions spell, use this on your spell book then leave the building. Find the other building and go upstairs, beside the bed is a cabinet containing flasks, pick up the green potion flask from this cabinet then return outside. Drink the green potion and you return to normal size. Travel back to the building with the cogs and cast the dispel illusion spell at the door shape on the wall to the right of the cogs. Enter this door and go down the passage to a junction, take the left fork and follow the passage to another junction, again take the left fork and unlock the door at the end of the passage with the key you were given by the woman. Beyond this door is a room with a see-saw across its centre. On one end (the closer) is a gold chest and on the other is a silver chest. We need the silver one, but you can't get it from this side, don't get the gold chest as the woman told you but follow her sister's advice and return to the last junction. Take the right fork and continue down the passage to another junction, again take the right fork and in the room at the end of this passage you meet a Dragon Knight, talk to this knight (Klaus von Straupzig) then pick up the torch on the ground and leave the chamber, return to the last junction and take the left fork. In the room at the end of this passage you see three upturned buckets, pick up the middle one then retrace your steps to the first junction you came to after entering the passages and take the left fork. At the end of this passage is a well room, fill the bucket by using it near the top of the screen then return to the junction and return outside to the wall of cogs. Hang the bucket on the lever above the cogs and the gate will open, go through the gate and up the stairs to the chamber at the top, you are now on the other side of the see-saw chamber, pick up the silver chest then leave the building and re-enter the passages. Travel through the passages to the bucket room and go through the exit on the left. In the next chamber is the tomb of Fujitomo No Samatory, place the silver chest on the tomb and the tomb will sink revealing Fujitomo's dragon ring which you take, after listening to Fujitomo, take the torch from your inventory and with the cursor as the torch go through the dark passage beyond the tomb to the outside. Here you will meet the Dragon Knight Herg Nach Drakhonen, talk to him and he tells you that you will get his vote if you bring the jewel of the Duck Dragon to him. Continue along the path to the river then jump into the river, you will here meet up with a large pike which will swallow you. Inside the pike you will find a diamond, pick this up then slash at the inside of the pike with one of your weapons and you'll be disgorged on the bank on the other side. Proceed along the bank and through the gap in the hills, continue in the same direction to a pool then jump down on a rock, turn left and walk into the fountain, here you will meet up with the Duck Dragon. Use the diamond to hypnotise the Duck Dragon then move to the back right-hand side of the cave and pick up the jewel, leave the cave and retrace your steps back to Herg Nach Drakhonen and give him the jewel, you have now secured his vote. Proceed back to the rock by the waterfall and continue across the rocks to the other side of the pool, continue on through the gap until you reach a stone circle, continue on to the back of the circle and follow the ramp up to the top. Here you will meet Hellaynea D'Artica, use your dragon ring on her then talk to her, she will then attack, ready a weapon and make one attack, she will then stop fighting and cast a cure spell on you. She also gives you a pickaxe before departing. Return to the base of the circle and take the other path to where the ravine is blocked by rocks, use the pickaxe to clear the way then continue on to a chasm with an old tree beside it. Haagen von Diakonov will be around here, talk to him and he will give you an axe, chop down the tree to form a bridge then cross the chasm, on the other side you will meet two thieves, kill these and pick up the bag from the bodies. Open the bag (right click on it on the inventory screen) and take the two vases from it, (the bag can be used to carry an extra four item by putting them in the bag) dispose of the broken vase then continue on through the gap in the hills to a plaza. Here you will meet Sylvan of Sygill and Alexandre of Egregalionne, two knights in one body, talk to them and they will tell you about their stolen vases, each will claim that the unbroken vase is theirs and ask for it. Give the vase to one or other of the knights by clicking it on either the upper or lower part of their body. The knight who you give the vase to will vote for you, the other will not. Continue on through the arches at the end of the plaza to the gate of Castle von Wallenrod, go through the gate and up then through the door into the castle entrance. Ignore the sphere on the pedestal as you won't be able to get hold of it yet, just continue through the door beyond the sphere onto the drawbridge. A dragon will block your way so use your ring on it and it will disappear, continue along the drawbridge and into the castle. Once inside you will meet up with a zombie, kill this then go to the far end of the room and click on the brass serpent, lying on the chair to see a flashback of how your father was killed by Diakonov. It might be a good idea to clear your inventory of any unneeded items at this point before venturing further into the castle, the items you will need whilst in the castle are Fujitomo's Dragon Ring, your own ring, the flint, sulphur, staff, armour, shield, sword, hammer, spellbook, and potion (if you haven't already used it). @~To be concluded next issue - o -
