Editorial Welcome to Issue 43 of SynTax. All those years and still going strong ... improving all the time, in fact, as next issue I have a big treat for you. Alex has been working like fury on a new version of SynWin, written using Delphi. If you thought the current SynWin was good, wait until you see SynWin 96! Alex is just adding an installation routine and the program will be on next issue's disk. It's so much larger than the current SynWin that it will only be supplied with SynTax once, in fact next issue there probably won't be a screenshots section to give us the room for it. I won't say any more now, just let you wait 2 months to see it! In the 2 months since LAST issue, I've upgraded to Windows 95. I'd been using all sorts of delaying tactics ... "Well, I don't really need it yet, do I?" and "I should really upgrade the PC first." But in the end I took the plunge and it's all gone surprisingly well. The only fight I had during installation was that I had to install it through DOS, it didn't like something about my Windows 3.11 setup - but it wasn't the first program to be like that! Since then, all my programs, both DOS and Windows, have run without problems. Some, like Simon 2 and Anvil of Dawn, need to be restarted in DOS but then everything is hunky-dory. The WinType printer needed new drivers to work properly, as did the HP660C, the tape back-up and my scanner. The Zip drive came with special 95 tools. To anyone else hesitating, I'd say - DO IT! I really like Windows 95, my PC is much more stable, and it was an all-round good move. Talking of Anvil of Dawn, I'd thoroughly recommend that too. It's taking me a long time to play it as I play for, at the most, 1 hour a day. I hope New World Computing write another game using the same engine. I'd put them down as my favourite software house, I haven't been disappointed with any of their software - the Might and Magic games are terrific but Anvil of Dawn takes the realism one stage further. Does anyone else have a company whose programs they rate very highly? Thanks to everyone who was complimentary about the SynDex (SynTax Index) that was given away with Issue 42. You all seem to have found it handy and liked the layout. Well, good - I enjoyed putting it together and it's given loads more space in the mag. I'll do the same again in a year or so. Finally, last issue I gave you a leaflet about the 1996 Adventurer's Convention which is being held at the Royal Angus Thistle Hotel, St Chad's, Queensway, Birmingham B4 6HY in October. There's been a change of date and it's been moved to 19th October (Saturday). You still have time to book a place at the reduced price of œ7.00 if you contact Vicky Jackson before 31st July. After that it's œ8.00 each. You can also book a reduced price room at the hotel if you're attending the Convention. For more details or to book a place contact Vicky at 128 Merton Hall Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 3PZ. Right, that's the lot. Until next issue with the grand unveiling of SynWin 96 .... byee!!
