GABRIEL KNIGHT 2 - THE BEAST WITHIN (Part 1) Solution By Phil Darke CHAPTER ONE You start the game in the Huber farm. Click on the bag on the floor and take everything from it. Go into the kitchen and read the letters and the other documents in your inventory. Click on the papers on the table and write a letter to Grace. Read the newspaper which is on the table and the note on the dresser. Take the car keys from under the mirror and go outside. Go right and click on the water trough. Examine the mud to the bottom left of the trough to see a footprint. Exit and enter the woods behind the trough. Examine the grass at the bottom of the screen and pick up the sample of hair. Now return and enter the door to the left of the car. Take the cement and bucket and then return and make a cast of the footprint. Take the cast and go to the car. Use the car keys and go to Thalkirchen. Watch the man feed the wolves then look at the wolves. Look at the sign and the entrance to the wolves' compound. The man you saw before re-appears. Talk to him. Ask about every topic until there is nothing more to say. Now go left to the admin area and talk to Dr. Klingmann. Before leaving note the walkie talkie on the desk and the coat hanging on the coat rack. Return to the farm and select the tape recorder. Load the tape of Dr. Klingmann into A and a blank tape into B. Now splice the tape to make the following message, "Thomas, Herr Doktor Klingmann here. Show our wolves to Mr. Knight". Return to Thalkirchen. Go into the office. Klingmann is not here this time. Examine the coat and take the receipt. Now use the splice tape with the walkie talkie. Leave the office and talk to Thomas. He will now show you the wolves up close. Look at the tag and stroke the wolf to get a hair sample. Now return to the farm. Examine the receipt from Klingmann's office. It is a receipt for a hunting licence. Turn the receipt over, on the back is a carbon copy of an address. Use the receipt with the mirror to read it, 54 Deinerstrasse. Now get back in the car and return to Munich. Go to Marienplatz and exit left and north to the office of your solicitor, Ubergrau. Talk to him until you have exhausted all the available topics. Return to Marienplatz and go right to the fountain and into Deinerstrasse. Find the post office and mail the letter to Grace. Continue further down the street and enter the Hunting Club. Talk to the porter, who is most uncooperative and ejects you. Return to Ubergrau's office and ask about the Ritter family papers. It will take a while to prepare these. Leave the office and go to the university. Show the two hair samples and the cast. Now go to Prinzregentenplatz and ask to see Leber. You will be unable to talk to him. Return to Ubergrau's office and collect the papers. Go back to the Hunting Club in Deinerstrasse and show the papers to the porter. You will now be admitted to the club, where you will meet several members including Klingmann. CHAPTER 2 The action now switches to Grace. Frustrated by lack of information from Gabriel she decides to go to Schloss Ritter and find out for herself. Grace receives a very frosty reception from Gerda. You start in Gabriel's bedroom. There is a workman doing something to the fire place. Talk to him, he does not need your help. Take a good look around the bedroom, noting the locked door. Go downstairs and talk to Gerda. She is not at all forthcoming and tells you that the locked door is to the library but refuses to give you the key. Leave the castle, noting Gabriel's car parked outside. Go into the town and have a good look around. Go into the church and look around. Next go to the Goldener Leowe, the inn. Talk to Werner Huber until all topics are exhausted. You will learn about the werewolves. Leave the Gasthof and go to the Rathaus, the blue door to the left. Talk to the mayor and ask about trial records. Return to the castle. Ask Gerda about the car. She refuses to give the keys. Go back to Gabriel's bedroom. The workman who was here earlier has left his toolbox. Take the screwdriver from the toolbox. Examine the fireplace you find a hole. Use the screwdriver on the hole, you hear a click. Open the wardrobe. There is a secret passage inside. Go through the passage. There are three exits, one back to Gabriel's bedroom. Another, down some steps leads out of the castle, but you can do nothing here yet. The third exit leads into Gerda's bedroom. Look around and leave the way you came. As you enter the wardrobe you see a key. Take it and return to Gabriel's bed room. Unlock the door and enter the library. Search the right book shelf and you will find Victor Ritter's journal. This tells about the capture of a werewolf in 1750. Search the middle section of the bookshelf and you find a book about werewolves. Inside it is a letter. As you open the book Gerda appears and a row ensues. When Gerda has left read the book and the letter. The letter is from Christian Von Ritter to King Ludwig II, warning him of danger from the Black Wolf. Now search the left section of the bookshelf, here you find a book about King Ludwig II but since it is written in German Grace does not take it. Examine the desk, there is nothing of interest for the moment, so leave and return the Gasthof. Talk to Werner about King Ludwig. Now go back to the rathaus and talk about the werewolf trial. When you have finished talking the mayor offers to show you the dungeon. He takes you down and leaves you there. Look through the window. This reminds Grace that the werewolf asked to see a confessor and that the church records may hold some information. Also note the claw marks on the window frame. Look at the bed. Leave the dungeon. Go to the church and try to talk to the priest. He does not speak English. Go back to the rathaus and talk to the mayor about the church records. He gives you a note for the priest. Return to the church and show him the note. He gives you the records. Take these back to the mayor and he will translate. You discover a letter from a family in Buenos Aires who appear to have a connection with Von Ralich, the seal on the letter is in the shape of a black Wolf. You also discover how Von Ralich came to be a werewolf. Now return to the castle. Go to the library and sit at the desk. Use the phone to call Professor Barclay at Yale university. (Click the card from your inventory on the phone) He refers you to a friend in Berlin. Look at the centre section of the book case and find Christian Ritter's journal. Use the typewriter and write a letter to Gabriel. Put the letter and the books in an envelope. Now go and show the package to Gerda. She will give you the address of Gabriel's solicitor in Munich. Take the package to the post office, which is next door to the Gasthof. Pay the postage by clicking your purse on the woman. You return to the castle and there is a knock at the door. Two American tourists, the Smiths, enter. They introduce themselves as demonologists. CHAPTER THREE Gabriel wakes from a nightmare at the Huber farm. Go into the kitchen. Read the newspaper on the table. You discover that there has been another murder during the night. Go to Ubergrau's office and collect the package from Grace. Read everything in the package and talk to Ubergrau. Leave the office and walk to the right until you come to the clock shop. Go in and buy a cuckoo clock. Now go to Deiner Strasse. Here there is much activity as this is the scene of the previous night's murder. Try and talk to Leber. He ignores you. Talk to the TV crew and show them the analysis report that you got from the university. As soon as you start talking, Leber comes over and stops you, he now says that he will talk to you later in his office. Go to the Hunt club and talk to Xavier. Explore the club, then leave and go to the police station. Talk to Leber until all topics are exhausted. Look at the map. There is a phone number here for the latest victim. Click your notebook on this to record the number. Return to the farm. Write a letter to Grace and then phone the number you got from Leber's office. Examine the business card which was given to you by Von Glower in the club the previous day. This puts the location of his house on your map. Return to the post office in Deinerstrasse and mail the letter to Grace. Go to Ubergrau's office and ask him to do some research on missing persons. Now go to the hunt club. You want to get the key to the locked door. Go to the back hall and hide the cuckoo clock in the plant. Return to the front hall. The woodpecker alarm goes off sounding like someone knocking at the door. When Xavier goes to investigate take the key from the desk drawer. Return to the back hall and unlock the door. Reset the alarm and go back to the front hall. When the alarm goes off again and Xavier goes to investigate return the key to the drawer. Return to the back hall and retrieve the clock. Open the door and go into the cellar. Look at the trophies and weapons. Also look at the appointment book and the photos. Baron Von Zell enters and escorts you from the room. Talk to him in the main hall. Leave the club and visit Von Glover's house. Examine the mask on the book shelf, Von Glower tells you that it is Indian. Talk to him. As you leave he says he will see you in the club later that evening. When you return to the club Herr Preiss is there alone. Talk to him. The other members of the club arrive. Talk to all of them. You are invited to join the other members for the hunt on the following day. Von Zell and Klingmann are engrossed in conversation and clam up when you approach. Tell them that you just wanted to grab a magazine. Take the magazine and put the tape recorder inside. Return the magazine back on the table. You will get a chance to retrieve it later on in the game. The party breaks up. When you return to the farm you see a dead creature lying on the drive and a pair of eyes watching you from the woods. @~To be concluded in part two, next issue - o -
