W-S-S-S-E-S-W-W-N to the base of a large willow tree. Drop chair, Up to the top branches, get key. D-S-E-N to the Front Porch. Unlock door with key, N-N-E-N to the Library. Open drawer and get Ruby. W-W-S to Pantry, get the lamp and the jar of honey. (The lamp cannot be turned on, and is unnecessary for dark areas, but what adventurer wants to be without a lamp?) N-D-E to the warm room with the mirror - Do not touch the mirror yet, or linger here too long! Go South to the damp room with the valve. Turn valve with wrench, and you hear the sound of water flowing in the pipes. N-W-U-E-S-S-S-S-W to the SW corner of the yard. Water is flowing from the fountain in a weak stream, and the object you saw jammed in the spout has fallen to the ground - it was a skeleton key. Get key. E-N-N-N-U-N to the Centre Hallway, where a painting hangs on the wall. Move painting to find a secret passage. U-E to an Attic, open trunk and get sledgehammer. W-W-U to the roof, where one of the tiles seems loose. Move tile (you find a Sapphire), get Sapphire. D-E-D-E to the East end of a Long Hallway, where a mural hangs on the wall. S to the Master Bedroom where a jewellery case is built into the top of a dresser. Open case - you find a pearl necklace, get necklace. Move log, get Emerald. S-S to the sunny clearing, where a young girl tells you a strange story about the history of her family at Hampton manor. This gives you an idea about what to do with that peculiar mirror in the cellar. E-S, enter door (East Hallway). W-S-D-N-W-D-E-E-N-N to a low crawl space, with a brick wall to the North. Hit wall with sledgehammer, then go North to a small room where you see a map and the skeleton of Peter Gray. Get map and read it - it shows part of the Catacombs under Hampton manor. S-S-S-W-W to the bottom of the stairs. U-E-S-S-S-S-E-N-N-N-N-N-N-N to the Island. Throw necklace in water, and the mouldy corpse that prevented you taking the board rises from the pond, takes the necklace, then fades away. Get board, unlock door with key, N to the Crypt. Get journal and read it - it's Peter Gray's journal, and you realize that to destroy the evil at Hampton Manor you must take the mirror to the place where it was originally found, and bury it. Move slab to reveal an opening leading down. D to a narrow passageway where a sea of mud blocks further progress. Get paper and read it - it looks like part of a map. Right! Now off to get rid of that mud. U-S-S-S-S to the Flower Garden. Drop map, paper, journal, manuscript and wrench. E-S to a small building, where a ferocious black bear blocks your way. Give jar to bear - she gets her snout caught in the jar and runs North, followed by a small cub. N, and you see a large dead bear (Well, how did you know the broken jar would kill her?) and a wailing bear cub. Don't worry, shelve this woeful problem for later. S-S to a small cavern with a pile of bones. Move bones, get Opal. W-S-D-N-E-U. Get shovel. D-W-N-W-S-D-S-U-S to an ice-cold room with a wide chasm to the South. Drop board - it falls across the chasm and freezes into place. S to an ice-filled room and a column of ice. Tie rope to column, and there is now a rope dangling down into the chasm. D-W-N-N-D-E to the room with the termites building a mound. Kick mound and you find a Topaz, get Topaz. W-N to the room with a lever. Pull lever, and mud pours from the grate and oozes into the fissure in the floor. Return to the Flower Garden. N-N-N-N-D-D-S to a very cold room, where you find two beautiful ice sculptures - one a man, the other a woman, and both life-size. E-S-D, enter lake. E-U to a Strange Room. Extraneus , and a strange black book appears. Get book, read book. It contains a spell and instructions for bringing the dead back to life, and the book also acts as a temporary charm against evil. Aha! Now to deal with that mirror down in the Cellar. Enter pool, W-U-U-N-W-N-U-U-S-S-S-S-S-S-E-S-W-N-N-N- N-W-D-E to the warm dark room with the mirror. Get mirror, then go back to the small cavern with the pile of bones where you found the Opal. From here go W-S-D-N-N-W-S-W-S to where you find a hole dug in the floor of the Catacombs. Drop mirror (you drop it into the hole), bury mirror (you cover it with dirt, the ground rumbles, and you feel as if a weight has been lifted from your shoulders). Go back to the Crypt, then D-D-S. The cold room with the ice sculptures has changed to a room with melting ice, and the ice sculptures are now two bodies on the floor. Mortalis Resurgere and two bolts of lightning strike the bodies. The little girl's parents stand up, thank you, and head off towards the mural. N-U-U-S-S-S-S-E to the dead bear. Mortalis Resurgere , and you've resurrected the mother bear - she grabs her cub and wanders off. Go to the small room in the Cellar where you found the skeleton of Peter Gray. Mortalis Resurgere , and the skeleton gradually transforms itself into Peter Gray, in glorious technicolour detail! You have destroyed all the evil that surrounded Hampton Manor, so finally you can relax and start work on your manuscript. Congratulations, you have won the game! - o -
