Anvil of Dawn - a few hintettes From Sue Mongoose and I had problems bug-wise with the Barrier. He couldn't cast magic in there; I got to the stage that I couldn't move back through there without an immediate crash. Mongoose got an updated CD from US Gold - there is also a patch available on the Internet - but I got round it by using the bridge rather than the Barrier to cross that section of the map. He said US Gold were very helpful though. I also found, running the game through Windows 95, that it liked a clean boot to run properly. Otherwise there was a big risk of crashes on loading. I found the Shackles of Ice spell to be the most useful. It works on almost all monsters, doesn't cost much in spell points and holds them in place while you whack them until they shatter (or whatever). May need 2 or 3 zaps for monsters with lots of HP. Either work out about when the spell is about to wear off and jump the gun with the next blast, or wait until they "defrost" - they reel a bit, giving you time to freeze them again. Great stuff. Monsters don't heal themselves with time, so you can always do them some damage, rush out, heal yourself, then go back and finish them off. It may not be sporting but ... Also in the Barrier, don't kill more Colossal Baboons than you need to. Once you've released their king, they'll vanish. They take a lot of killing (especially when you can't use magic, eh Mongoose?) but if you want the experience or practice, go for it. I killed quite a few, then ended up going along all available routes until they were blocked by one or more of them, and eventually didn't need to kill any more. In the Land of Roots, note on the map where you find the diseased roots because later you will need to go back and heal them. Thanks to Brian Burke for giving me that bit of advice. I still missed one and printed out the map of that level to mark where I'd been and be able to find it. It took ages. To rescue the geezer in the block of ice in Gorge Keep, drop the glowing ember by the ice. It will melt after a few turns. I tried operating it on the ice and all sorts of things ... Wear the Amulet of Power Regeneration whenever possible to replace lost spell points faster. Similarly carry the Hallowed Staff of Elder Wood when casting Blessed Weave of Healing Wounds and you'll replace more HP in one casting. - o -
