Solution for Beyond the Titanic (PC version) Author: Scott Miller SynTax disk #: PD 316 Solution by Bev Truter 1. The Titanic and surrounding areas. You naturally realize the Titanic is in danger of hitting the iceberg and sinking shortly, but before rushing into a lifeboat, make sure you have a knife with you. When you are in the lifeboat cut the rope, and also open the kit you can see under the seat, and get everything in it. Wear the safety harness, then wait .......... Read the markings in the Squeaky Cave, and use this phrase to open the E wall of the Hex Cave. Before going E you will have to go SW to the Shallow Cleft. Do this by crawling and by tying the rope to the flashlight. Drop all, get rope and crawl SW. Pull the rope to drag the flashlight through, then get the stake. By the time you get to the Chasm you will be feeling a tad peckish, so eat the banana and then put the stake in the ground, tie rope to stake, throw rope into Chasm, climb down rope. Yes, you WILL have to "jump" and sustain frightful damage, but never fear, grab your flashlight and soldier on to......... 2. The Alien Saucer. You'll soon be feeling hungry again, so after finding your way into the Saucer, find the Life Support Room, and eat the contents of the bottle (smash bottle) for a permanent hunger-stopper. Next on the agenda is fixing your injuries, so get into the Tube in the Ship's Lab, and throw the flashlight at the green button. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Now you can nip outside again to find the Zoo, and retrieve the bit of blue fur in the cage, for reasons which will become clear later. Remember to switch your flashlight off while in the saucer - it gets dimmer pretty rapidly. In the Bridge remove the spacesuit from the Alien, and hang onto it - no need to wear it yet. In the Ship's Systems room you activate the screen by typing 1-4. There are 4 changes of screen with 4 different messages. From these screens you will get the general idea of what the Saucer was here for, the code number to open the panel in the Time Chamber, and a future year for your Time Travel. Also note the warning not to leave anything behind, either on earth or the moon, when you finally "leave". You will find a gun in the Supply Chamber, for use down in the cargo holds, when the Creature locks you in a cage. "Shoot chain with gun" will free you. And stop worrying about the Egg - I suspect it's ungettable. If you push the buttons in the Sleep Chamber the game crashes - whether a deliberate joke by the author or an accidental bug, it doesn't affect the game at all, except for irritation value. 3. Teleporting through Time. You will need the box inside the panel for your return trips. Select the year and day to travel to by turning the 2 dials on the chair. When you finally get the hang of it, you need to get the piece of wire from the Crater Floor. Try a few times, as you will be randomly robbed of your possessions - leave everything else on the Wooden Bridge while you get the wire. Next, go a LONG way E along the Deserted Road (about 10 moves) until you reach a road going S. Go S and wander around the building until you find the Basement, where you will have to open the cabinet with the wire. Get all, and wear the helmet, which cannot be worn simultaneously with the spacesuit. Next find the Ladder Room, and climb the ladder to emerge on the Roof. Here's a strange vehicle, ready and waiting...... 4. Flying the Shuttle. This bit is truly maddening; you can insert the key in the keyhole, press the white button, and turn the key furiously....and nothing happens. Try "fly up". When you have become bored with the bird's-eye view of the scenery, try flying up again to get above the clouds, then wander around until you spot a likely place to land. Land shuttle, get the key (remember the warning about leaving bits and pieces scattered about!) and exit the shuttle. Now would be a suitable time to wear the Spacesuit instead of the helmet. Wander around the Dark Corridors until you reach the Food Supply, where the Creature will chase you - unless you relish the idea of becoming a meal, keep moving, and push the switch on the box. 5. Back on the Saucer You have teleported the Creature back with you, but don't worry, head for the Engine Room and press the red button there. (You were wearing the spacesuit, weren't you??) This will activate the radiation screen, which melts the Creature to reveal the tape he has swallowed. Go to the Bridge (no, not the Wooden one) and insert the tape in the slot under the screen, which is found by examining the controls. Examine the screen, and that's the date for your final Teleport home, back to dear old San Francisco and the end of the game! If you have not got a perfect 1000/1000, it's because you have left some litter somewhere or haven't explored some locations. - o -
